I already registered, so why do I get a message saying I don't have permission to post?

When you first enter The Dream, the only place you are able to post in is the ENTER forum. Once you've got roughly 30-40 posts, you may be sponsored and given access to all The Napping Cat's Dream forums.

Why do you ask for two email addresses?

The real email address is used for email notifications and forum subscriptions and to email your password. The other is what other users see when they view your profile. For a variety or reasons (including preserving the secrecy of which players are behind which avatars) members may want to display different e-mail addresses (or none at all) for different avatars.

Do I have to accept cookies?

Yes. Cookies are used to track your Username/Password and which posts you have read for your current session. Without accepting cookies some functions won't work properly.

How do I login?

If you have registered an account (username) within these forums, you must login in order to post with that username, and to take advantage of the personalization features. To login, look in the upper right-hand corner of your screen for the Login link. This link will take you to a page where you can enter your Username and Password. Keep in mind that the password is always case-sensitive. This means that S and s are considered different by the software.

Once you have entered your Username and Password, you'll be brought to what is called the Start Page. If you have any Private messages, you'll see a flashing envelope at the top left of the menu bar. You can now enter the main forum area by clicking the NCD Index link at the top of the page. This will list all of the forums for you.

Help! I'm having trouble logging in!

This checklist may help you successfully login:

1) Make sure you are entering your password correctly. They are case-sensitive.
2) Ensure that your browser supports cookies; if so, check the security level you are using. High levels of security restriction in certain browsers will automatically reject cookies. In order to use the key features of these forums, you'll need to accept cookies.
3) Completely logout by hitting the Logout link on the page, and then log back in again.
4) After logging in, you may have to hit the reload/refresh button on your Web browser to expedite the authentication.
5) If you continue to have problems, go to the login page. Enter your Username in the Username field and click the "I forgot my password" button. A temporary password will be generated and emailed to the email address used for the account setup. You MUST enter a Username in the Username field before you use this feature.

I forgot my password!

If you have forgotten your password, dont worry! You can very easily have a temporary password emailed to you. All you need to do is go to the login page of the forums and enter your Username in the Username field. Then click the button marked "I forgot my password", and a temporary password will be emailed to the email address of the username you registered.

Once you have logged in using your temporary password, you will need to change your password to a new value.

This process is safe because the password is only emailed to the original owner of the account. There is no way to steal the password by using this feature.

How do I change my password?

You may change your password any time. All you need to do is click the {$ubbt_lang['CONTROL_PANEL']} option found on any page. Then, under the Main Configuration heading, click on "Personal Information, email, password...". To change your password, simply edit the password and verify password fields on this page. Once you have entered the new password, click submit to save the information. (Keep in mind that passwords are case-sensitive.)

How do I add an image to my message?

In order to add an image to your message or your signature, you must have the image already available on a web server. This can be an image on your own personal web page, for example. To place an image within a message, simply use the following Markup Tag:

[img]http://www.url_to_image.com/image_name.gif[/img]

For example, if you have an image called cateye.gif and its available from your own website at http://www.mywebsite.com/pics, then you would use the following image markup:

[img]http://www.mywebsite.com/pics/cateye.gif[/img]

You can do the same for your signature. Click the {$ubbt_lang['CONTROL_PANEL']} option found on any page. Then, under the Main Configuration heading, click on "Personal Information, email, password...". Look for the Signature box, and enter your desired information, including any images/markup as above.

Is there a limit to image size?

Yes! All images posted to this forum must be NO MORE THAN 550 pixels wide! The only exceptions being the official MZDM comic strips which are allowed to be 600 pixels wide. We also ask that the height and total file size be kept as small as possible.

Note: Signatures are limited to one image each.

How do I edit my profile?

Click the {$ubbt_lang['CONTROL_PANEL']} link on the Menubar. At the bottom of the next screen you will see options for editing your profile.

What does it mean when there's a flashing envelope on the menu?

It means that you have unread Private Messages. Clicking on the envelope will take you to your Message Box.

What do the letters in the Received Private Messages display mean?

'N' denotes an unread message.
'R' denotes a message that's been replied to.
A space denotes a message that's been read but not replied to.

I'm having problems getting the URL tags to work!

If the tags are showing up in your text or you're getting a link, but it's to 'http:///', you're including some unwanted spaces in the syntax. Avoid any intervening spaces, and everything will work fine.

How do I layout my posts so as to have white space between paragraphs?

By hitting carriage return twice at the points where you want to insert a blank line. If you opt to preview your posts, you get the opportunity to do a further iteration of editing before you finally accept the post.

Is there a spellchecker?

No. If you want to be sure that you're word perfect, you'll have to spellcheck your post in some text editor and then cut and paste it into the Forums edit box.

Can I edit and/or delete my post?

Users can edit and delete their own posts any time after they are made. This is useful to fix broken links, misspelling and bad grammar. HOWEVER, editing to revise content is strongly discouraged, as subsequent posts will be based on what you originally posted. If you must correct some content in your original post, please make it clear that that the original material has been edited.

Example:[EDIT]Original post with erroneous date of 1813 has been corrected to 1812[/EDIT]

Generally, posts should never be deleted, especially if someone has subsequently responded to your post. Deleting is acceptable to remove duplicate posts or to quickly remove a post made under an incorrect login.

What if I post in the wrong forum?

Let the Forum Moderator know - he/she will be able to move it to the proper forum.

Can I use HTML in my posts?

Yes, but not within signatures.

What is UBB Code?

UBBCode is a variation the HTML tags you may already be familiar with. Basically, it allows you to add functionality or style to your message that would normally require HTML. You may want to use UBBCode™ as opposed to HTML, even if HTML is enabled because there is less coding required and it is safer to use (incorrect coding syntax will not lead to as many problems). When you post to a thread there will be buttons available to automatically insert any of the following UBB codes.

[b] text [/b] = Makes the given text bold.
[email] joe@email.com [/email] = Makes the given email address clickable.
[i] text [/i] = Makes the given text italic.
[img]url[/img] = Displays the image located at that url.
[image]url[/image] = Also displays the image located at that url.
[code] text [/code] = Allows the computer code to display without activating the code.
[quote] text [/quote] = Displays text in an offset quotation box. This UBBCode tag is used for quoting a reply.
[url] link [/url] = Makes the given url into a link.
[url=link] title [/url] = Makes the given title into a hyperlink pointing to link.
[list]
[*]Item 1
[*]Item 1
[/list]
= Makes a bullet list. [list=A] or [list=1] will make order/numbered lists.
 or :o =
 =
 =
:frown: or :( =
 or :D =
 =
 =
 or :) =
 or :p =
 or ;) =
[color=red] text [/color] = Makes the given text red.
[color=#00FF00] text [/color] = Makes the given text green.

What is the Message Box?

The Message Box is located on the MY PROFILE page. Click the MY PROFILE link on the links table near the top of the screen. Use the Message Box to Send and View your Private Messages.
  • Click "Send a PM" to send a PM.
  • Click "Received Private Messages" to view PM's that have been sent to you.
  • Click "Sent Private Messages" to view PM's that you have saved a copy of. (To save a copy of PM's, be sure to check the "I want to keep a copy of my message" button when you send a PM.)

What are Post Reminders?

This is probably one of the most under-utilized, yet most powerful features on this forum. Do you pop in here to check messages through the day? Does someone interrupt you when you are trying to compose a reply? Well the solution is easy. At the bottom of each post, you'll see a tiny "Remind Me!" icon, like this: . If you click this icon, a reminder will be stored on your MY PROFILE page for you to make a reply to this post later.

To return to the post, click the link right in the Post Reminders section on your MY PROFILE page. Once you have posted a reply, the reminder will automatically disappear. You can check the reminder and click "Delete" to remove any of them.

What are Favorite Threads?

You can choose to mark threads as favorites. That way you can easily re-visit the thread from the link in the Favorite Threads section of your MY PROFILE page. When reading a thread, simply scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen, and click on "Make Favorite Thread" and it will be added. If you wish to remove any favorites, simply check them on your MY PROFILE page and click "Delete".

Note that if you turn the option on under email settings, you can receive email replies to all of your favorite threads.

What Configuration tools are available?

On the bottom of your MY PROFILE page, you may customize the look of the site, change your password, update your profile and much more.
  • Edit Personal Information, email, password, etc: (This is where you can edit your password, your display name, email address, as well as all the information available in your profile.)
  • Edit, Add or Remove a signature: (You can set up to 12 personal signatures that will be available to you from a dropdown palette with every post. Each signature is limited to one image and 300 characters.)
  • Edit Display Preferences, signature options.. etc: (There are many options available here to customize elements such as signatures, forum time and age of threads.)
  • Subscribe / Unsubscribe from receiving posts by email, message notifications, etc: (This is where you can select preferences for all email notifications, and more.)

What are the rules?

Please read the Participation Agreement, which includes standard forum participation language and read THE DREAM RULES! which explains most fully the rules of the Master Zen-Dao Meow role-playing game.

Is there a more detailed tutorial for using the forum?

Yes. Wind Wraith Of The Wretched Wrags has written a detailed turorial for using the forum.

I don't want the Napping Cat Chat to show at the top of MEET, can I change that?
