Saving the Awards Ceremony
      #51562 - Tue Nov 05 2002 12:59 PM

This is continued from here.

*when we last left off, Jester, Ariel, Porter, and Nightshade were trying to defuse a bomb left by Ceasar, and gaurded by a giant venus flytrap also left by the carrot*

In all the commotion Jadem was blocked from getting to help them with the bomb. After all the people have gotten out of the way he makes his way to Jester. "Need some help there?" he asks Jester as he forms a 12" rotating blade from his mechanic hand and goes after the plant with it.

(OOC)Might as well provide some flavor to the chaos.

Porter-There are probably at least a 50 blocks of the stuff spread out around the basement, so you probably wouldn't be able to neutralize all the explosives in time. The digital clock behind the plant is another story though.
(/OOC)

Nightshade, as you follow the wires out the other door of the the dressing room, you hear Centaur Prime's second message to the crew. You arrive in the Green room just after the plant springs up.

Porter and Jester arrive behind you, just in time to catch your words about the weed whacker.

It seams that the Emperor had a sense of humor when he planted the timer. The green room (usually used for actors to eat and rest during the show while waiting for their cues) now contains the timer and Caesar's guard plant.

Ariel enters the green room following the cable trace from the paint shop shortly after Jester and porter turn into a weed control team.

It takes her a moment to get a grip on the situation. Seeing how the plant was quite preoccupied, Ariel darted forward and dug a small electric saw out of her backpack. It may not be the best way to cut the wires leading out of the timer, but it should be faster than sniping all of them.

Off Stage, Centaur Prime takes one last look around, then follows his crew out of the building. Once out, his concern grows as he sees the situation Ariel is dealing with.

(OOC)For those who haven't read their profiles, Centaur Prime and Ariel can look at what the other one is seeing thorough their computer link. They can also talk to each other in the same way.(/OOC)

OOC: Oh, and Porter, what would happen if the fire say, hit the wrong wire in the detonator, making it go off prematurely?

IC: "Damn, that weed is guaranteed to be dead after all this.." Nightshade mumbled.

He noted that the plant had left the detonator unguarded, and he had an open chance to get in and do work on it.

"I'll get the detonator thing.. Somebody talk me through it, or else we'll all be blown to kingdom come." He said over the buzzing of the saws on the plant.

He opted to use 'Shadowform', and seemingly melded into the wall and floor as a formless shadow, but as the shadow made it's way across the wall, it stopped next to the shadow of the detonator. The hand of the shadow moved, picking up the black sihouette of the wired device, and the three dimensional real object levitated slightly.

"So how am I supposed to defuse this thing? I got a pair of cutters I can use, but there are too many wires here.

OOC: It shouldn't blow unless an electric charge is sent across the wires to the blasting caps.
BIC:

"How much time is left? Is there any of that grey clay-like stuff stuck to the timer itself, and do you see more than one battery? If there is, he may have placed a trap charge on that timer, so be careful!"

"From what I can see, it looks like a simple timer - one that just connects the blasting caps to a battery when it hits zero. The bomber may not have had time to trap it, but I can't be sure of that."

"If I teleport the timer itself out of here, that should cut all the wires leading to the charges at once. That should prevent the electrcity from getting to the blasting caps on the charges scattered around the basement, when it hits zero."

Porter points back the way he came. "All the charges from here back to the exit are ready to be teleported out of here, to where they can explode safely if that happens. But I haven't had time to get through the other two thirds of the basement."

"And has ANYBODY seen any wires that lead to charges, and that don't seem to come together here? We could have multiple timers to deal with."

(OOC)The paint shop is below the level of the stage on the stage left side. The direction most of the others came from was from the lobby.(/OOC)

Ariel responds to Porter's question. "I followed a cable run here from the paint shop." Ariel gestures towards the paint shop. "As far as I can tell, everything is wired up to that box."

If anyone were to look at the digital display, it currently reads 30 seconds.

[edit-added after talk with Caesar's PG]The timer doesn't seem to have any nasty surprises attached to it. Only one (or two) battery(s) and no hint of C4 on it. Just the connections for the multitude of detonators.[/edit]

(OOC)After this is over, I think we're going to have one steamed carrot to deal with.(/OOC)

Kabbalist had been in shock until now. He had had his first sight of Gorgon, and as far as he was concerned, it could be his last and he would go home happy. He was suddenly snapped out of it, when most of the people in the theater began rampaging for the exits. Feeling no desire to become an example of the other other white meat, he decides that he should be going as well, and slips out through one of Porter's portals.

Ssang mews in fear as the chaos ensues. Shivering in Joshua's grip, she looks down from their spot up above ebryone else. ~Ssang wish Ssang cou' fwy~ She mews.

Firefly yelps and flies up and into the portal of black flames with out hesitation. Fantasy is quick to follow, as she hovers beside Joshua before the portal.

"Going would be good.. I no nothing about bombs." she grumbles, feeling slightly guilty for not being able to help.

Grabbing Joshua's wrist so he doesn't get any ideas, she flies into the portal.

Porter nods to Jester.

"I would love to 'render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's', but I don't have a fix on his place, and there's no time!"

"Beta! Tri-swap NOW!"

Porter's paws flare blue-white as the timer flies toward him. In the glare of the sudden light, a red wireframe box appears around the timer, which suddenly vanishes with a {Schlapp!} of inrushing air.

Behind the party, the row of encased C4 packets are suddenly replaced by solid columns and walls of black bassalt.

Porter looks cautiously one way, then the other. Then breathes deeply.

"I'll collect the remaining C4 charges. I know how to handle it safely, and I can use it for mining out more space in my new base on the mountain."

"With some help from the AI on my ship, I swapped solid rock from my mountain with the bomb laced walls and columns that I had already gotten to. You may need to do some rewiring and fix some plumbing, but at least you'll have solid support. The removed sections and the timer have been teleported to suborbital, with a horizontal velocity vector that should ensure they will burn up safely on re-entry. The empty space vacated by the bassalt, up on my mountain, got swapped with the empty space the debris now occupies in orbit. A three-cornered teleport swap."

Meanwhile, outside the theatre, a rather spectacular meteor shower begins, including a few that explode harmlessly into fireballs...

In the green room
Ariel lands on the floor, shaking as the situation seems to be stabilizing itself. She takes a moment to regain her composure, then speaks to Porter and Jester. "Porter, if you want to recover the remaining explosives, I don't think there'd be any problems. We'd be probably be able to use the electrical cords later. Jester, do you agree?" Whether or not she hears a response, she vanishes a few seconds later in a brief glow of light.

Behind the theater
When Ariel saw the countdown on the timer, Centaur Prime started a synchronous timer in his CASES unit. As the timer is ported, he breathes a sigh of relief. The talisman glows brightly for second as Ariel vanishes from the green room, then dims down. Centaur Prime then smiles slightly. Rest as long as you need to Ariel. You certainly could use it. His timer counts down to zero, and then starts counting up. Once it reaches 30 seconds, he radios the crew. 'I think the bomb's been disarmed, but I want to wait on letting the avatars back in until everything is cleaned up.'

In Orbit
The timer, now disconnected from the detonators, blindly continues it's countdown to 0. As it reaches 0, the electrical terminals cycle on and off, and nothing happens. The terminals continue cycling as the box continues it's reentry. If someone were to hook a speaker across one of the lines, they would hear a beeping sound.
Eventually, it turns into a fireball unless someone feels like retrieving a slightly modified and soon to be charred timer from orbit.

Far side of the parking lot
The ushers who had radios breath a sight of relief also. The house manager takes deep breath, then whistles loudly to get the attention of the people around him/her. Once the crowd has quieted down, he/she speaks. "The problem seems to have been dealt with, however we ask you to wait here until the situation has been fully resolved. Thank you for your cooperation."

Inside Centaur Prime's Talisman.
Ariel collapses on her bed and falls asleep almost instantly. She doesn't sleep there much, but it's the closest safe place to rest that she knows of.

OOC: Thanks for pointing out the mistake in my post, Centaur Prime. I admit I rushed when I made that post, which wasn't a good thing for me to do.

IC: Shaper trips and falls due to his panicked rush. Suddenly on the ground, he finds himself not only in danger of the bomb, but also of getting trampled! Out of desperation, he is able to scramble out of the way of anybody who is fleeing, and get back to his feet.

At this point, the kangaroo realizes how disastrous panicking in a situation like this could be. If he had just remained calm and followed Centaur Prime's instructions, he could have escaped much more quickly. Forcing himself to be calm, he makes his way toward one of Porter's portals. He is one of the last to leave (aside from those who stayed behind to help, of course.)

Outside at last, Shaper allows himself to collapse to his knees and breathe heavily for a little while.

Well, at least that's over....Porter, I want you to find those remaining charges and bring them to me. *Jester doesn't wait for an answer as he makes his way upstairs and out to the parking lot* The problem has been contained, everyone! Thank you for not panicing and for assisting others.

Porter walks methodically through the basement, locating and removing the remaining explosive charges. At each one his routine is the same.

He creates a red field around the charge, isolating it in case it does explode.

He cuts the wires fairly close to the charge, just outside the red field.

Then he dismisses the red field and carefully removes the blasting cap, then the C4, placing both inside a floating, blue-edged portal next to him.

After half an hour of so he has gathered 37 blocks of C4, and 37 blasting caps. He seals the portal he stored them in, and scents around the basement, making sure he can't detect any more explosives.

One locker gets him worried, but when he checks it out, it turns out to be a props locker, with blank ammunition for stage guns.

He walks upstairs, looking rather tired after creating so many portals in such a short time, and eventually finds Jester.

"OK Jester, I recovered 37 blocks of C4, with blasting caps. They are on my shuttle at the moment, for safe keeping. The rest of the basement is clean. I did the 'bomb sniffing dog' routine to make sure. Where do you want me to put the explosives? Thinking of putting together a little 'thank you gift' for Ceasar Salad?"

One other locker in the basement that would attract Porter's attention would be the one used to store some of the stage pyrotechnics. Inside are things such as flashpaper and some electric matches (igniters). A relatively quick glance would show that none of the stuff would be a cause for concern.

After taking another deep breath, Centaur Prime leads the avatars and crew members who exited out the stage door to the parking lot with the others.

When Porter makes his report to Jester, Centaur Prime is present to hear it. Centaur Prime is still a little shaky from the whole experience, but he's glad to hear that everything is clear.

Centaur Prime then signals the house manager to let the assembled avatars know that it's clear to let them back in to retrieve any gear that was left behind. The manager begins letting people in in groups of 5 rows at a time.

OOC: I figured there would be a locker like that as well. However, Porter would have recognized those scents for what they were, so that wouldn't have bothered him. Heh - FYI, Porter's PG is, among other things, a semi-professional stage magician and pyrotechnician. BIC:

Porter looks at Jester, then down at his 'Friendliest Avatar' award.

"Well, I have to admit there's poetic justice in giving Ceasar Salad back his own explosives, still armed. And if anyone deserves to be 'Julienned', it's that carrot. Still, I really shouldn't do that. Of course... " he says with a grin "... if you were to tell me the coordinates of a 'safe' place to dispose of these dangerous explosives... Well, I don't know where his palace is, so how could I be responsible for bombing him?" {blink blink}

Porter taps a paw on the air and opens a portal to where he stored the explosives.

The pile of C4 bricks would fill a good sized backpack, with a bit left over. The pile of blasting caps is next to them,

"Take what you want and go then, Jester."

Porter steps through the portal himself, so he is standing in the cargo bay of his shuttle.

"I'd like to change out of my best Kimono, anyway. Thank you for hosting the ceremonies."

OOC: Once Jester takes the explosives, the portal will close, and Porter will have left.

Also, thanks to Ariel, David Nightshade and Jadem Cog, who I didn't get a chance to thank in character.

Silver Fox had stayed very quiet till the next award came up. She quirked her lips at Gorgon's little entrance and exit.

Silver opened a portal and let as many as wished to use it walk through calmly. She then followed through to the far side of the parking lot, not sure what was going on but not wishing to be in the way of those trying to work on what was going on.

Nachahmer had fallen asleep with boredom waiting for his category to come up, however his collection applauded each winner as they were given their award.

When the proceedings came to a close, they returned to Nachahmer's pool.

Nachahmer misses all the commotion caused by Caesar and is just now waking up to an empty theater.

"Oh great. I missed it." He sits in his seat a moment, a sour expression crawls onto his face. "Well, I guess since no-one woke me, I didn't win anything."

He gets up, walks onto the stage, and grabs the mic of it's still there and on.

"That's just fine! You wanna see evil?!? I'll show you evil!!!"
Nachahmer's eyes burn with fury then suddenly he begins crooning terribly off key into the mic. Anything glass begins to break, not from high pitch but rather from the sonic attack ability he gained from Chara. Canines for miles become agitated by the sound, possibly even those presently in the basement of the theater.

: OOC :
Maybe he woulda won 'Most Inept Villain'?
Seriously though, congratulations to all who won, all who were nominated, and even all those in the dream because everybody deserves recognition for being the creative people they are.
