The Firey Embrace (Part 2)
      #208525 - Wed Oct 30 2002 12:40 PM

"Dead and Gone is the Dragon. Your faith in yourselves to restore him is not but a foolish notion. Give up and go home, enjoy your pathetic existences for what little remains of them. For I am in charge now."

(OOC: I have been approved to take over as ShishiOsa is indisposed, mwahahahha)

BTW, we came from here

The Acoldice ponders Jester's words, realizing that there might be a clue to the mystery within them.

"Jester, I realize you are ashamed of your 'defeat' but perhaps we might be able to turn the tables so to speak. I have a question for you, if you were curently in Annammu's position, what would you do?"

Hinako just stared off into space, thoughtful as well.

"Things happen way too friggin' fast.." she could be heard to mutter as she entered the Puzzle-Box.

She grit her teeth, pounding her fist on something nearby.

I should have known it was a bad idea. Dammit...This is why I need the others. ...I wonder how they're doing without me?

What would I do? I'd turn all those who opposed me against each other after realizing that togethor they might have enough power to actually stop me. While their busy infightning, I would continue my plans. I would also consider enlisting the aide of others whose ambitions i could play upon, using their own greed to make them work for me until I no longer needed them.

"Interesting," the Acoldice speaks, nodding as Hinako seems to come out of her trance and steps through the portal into the Hall of Visions with the others, "allow me to share my idea."

"You say Annammu touched your minds, but that ShihsiOsa sealed it away with himself. I submit for consideration, that the beings we are watching are not really Annammu, but its influence upon you and the other warriors of the Game that encountered it. In entering your minds Annammu left a part of itself behind for the future. That would fit with Annammu, especially if it thought it might loose to Shishi, if there is one thing the legends mention it is its persistence.

"So by watching this shade of Annammu we are seeing what a blend of you and Annammu would be. That could also explain the words he spoke to you. But where did the other come from, and why is it that we cannot find it now?"

"I love it when you children try to use my own essence against me, have none of you yet figured out where it is that your so called "dark " magics come from?"

Suddenly Ceera's form seems to be draped in night itself, no matter how she struggles the darkness that surrounds her allows no light to pass through.

With the radiant light gone darkness seems to return with vigor, then once more recollects into the same form as before, once more fondling the crystal. "I realize that you put alot of yourself into this Llano, much more than perhaps you realize. However it is not precisely what I seek, you have that, please give it to me."

Lightice smiles to Jester's words about Annammu using one's own darkness against him.

"Hmm...I made peace with my 'inner darkness' a long time ago. All that is left is gray mists...I'm a power of my own, with no alike in the Dream or elsewhere. Nothing can rule my mind."

He ponders Jester's more recent speculations.

"Indeed, that's propably the best our enemy can do against us...Should it try to destroy us, it never could crush us all, and there would always be someone to rise more and more avatars of the Dream against him. Even the darkest demons fight for any cause when they themselves are threatened. Best for it would be to keep quiet as long as possible and collect what it needs to it's triumph in silence."

He grins.

"But that's not what it's going to do. It's too arrogant, too impatient. It seems to be unable to understand mortal way of thinking, or even that of mine. It's pathetic and foolish. Only reason we haven't defeated it is because it's so powerful. This kind of enemies are always defeatable by being more cunning than they are. We have one thing that it wants: The Shard, for whatever reason, and it should give us an advantage against it."

A huge muscular back breaches the surface of the magma pool, the molten rock pouring off of it like water on a ducks feathers. Then he raises himself the rest of the way out of the pool, his long tail remaining beneath the surface. "I don't recall, since I have yet to collect all of the shards that contain my memories."

"I must thank you though, for dragging awake what I have of my true self, I am grateful for that. But do not think me so easily swayed to your will." He crosses his arms and looks down his snout at ANNAMMU watching Ceera try to get the Rose back from him. "Yes I have heard of Voodoo, what does that matter?"

A sinister grin curls the corner of his mouth. "Yes I have what you want, and you have what I want, but there will not be a simple trade if that is what you were hoping for." Something glows from within the base of his blade like horn. The soft purple glow of his eyes shift to a vibrant blue. "Now let her go." His voice is hard enough to make even the most powerful of beings rethink their actions.

Lightice shakes his head to Acoldice's question.

"No. Emberage has it. He was offering it to us when he was striken down by Annammu, but it didn't allow to be touched by anyone else. Pity...I could have invented several creative uses for it..."

"I have no doubt that you are as stubborn and strong willed as your prescendent, but I doubt you would recall him." The dark being's head turns towards the struggling blackness encasing Ceera, "I have done nothing to her, she just seems to have a bit of trouble seeing at the moment."

The dark figure while not quite so large as the dragon, seems totally unconcerned with any proximity of danger. "Now if you comprehend the idea of vodoo, you would easily understand its principles. I have had plenty of time to understand the best way to enlist a dragon to my aid. While powerful you may be, you aren't quite up there on the scale with the Dragon of the Earth, and this worked rather well on him."

The shadowed form lifts the right forearm of the small replica, which much to the surprise of Sesahcrup causes him to lift his right forearm as well. "It seems to me the manipulation of matter through its power source seems to work even now, interesting no? Now, I think you might be a more valuable asset to my efforts than that of the crystal. After all, you have part of the crystal's power within you."

Hinako frowned.

"Not so fast. Before we take care of the shard...."

She looked to Emberage.

"This guy has all the claim to it. If I heard correctly, he's the one it was entrusted to. To let anyone else handle it..."

The wolf-girl closed her eyes with a frown.

"...Would be a severe breach of ShishiOsa's trust."

She looked up, with a nod.

"Emberage must put the shard somewhere safe. If any of us handle it, it's sure to bring trouble."

Ceera stands, wrapped in blackness.

So nice when your opponent brags of their abilities. Annammu is the embodiment of pre-creation darkness, is he? The essence of dark magicks? Of course, attacking him with dark magick would be a waste of effort. This darkness feeds on rage, on the wish to destroy. I have to calm myself - find my center. I was a priestess of the Goddess before I sought the darker powers, and I have not lost those White arts.

You don't master the arts of the Dreamwalker without mastering mind control. And you start by mastering your own mind. Ceera directs her will inwards, seeking a zen state, casting off the dark energies and the anger and the hate. Her form shrinks, her wings fade and vanish. She becomes, to all appearances, merely... human.

Levitating in lotus position within the darkness, Ceera reaches out with her mind...

... and sidesteps in the timestream. She floats effortlessly over to Sesa, no longer bound by the darkness.

The events in the magma chamber seem frozen in place, Sesa with his arm raised - Annammu looking so smug. She reaches out again, and her rose, still on a chain around Sesa's neck, is also pulled out of the timestream. She shrinks it and places it on her bracelet. The green leaf, which is the disguised shard that Annammu seeks, becomes a small green gem on her bracelet. She also attempts to take the crystal image of Sesa in Annammu's hand, pulling it out of the timestream as well.

From the perspective of Sesa and Annammu, and those watching the chamber from afar, Ceera seems to have vanished...

OOC: To clarify, Ceera is standing on the banks of the river of time. She can't stay there forever - she is burning energy fairly rapidly to do this. but for the moment, she simply 'isn't there' from the perspective of those in the normal timestream.

Shemp33 has obviously been overawed to be where he is and has been very quiet, but now he makes a bit of noise to attract attention to him before speaking, "Excuse me, I know I am just a lowly yetagorn courrier, but we do have a problem. You see, the shard was in the amulet...."

When the blank looks show they don't get it, the yetagorn continues, "...the amulet that was in Emberage's RIGHT hand...the amulet that no one else could touch...the hand that the Dark One, well you know...took..."

As Ceera reaches for the crystal of Sesa, an extremely cold hand suddenly grabs her own, so cold it burns her skin badly at a mere touch. Even though it stands before her, Ceera finds herself being held by Annammu, this one however makes no mockery, makes no laugh, it merely plucks the green leaf from the braclet rose and hurls her at the magma and back into the timestream, obviously without a care...

In the Hall of Vision the mirror segment that was back and had sound flashes brilliantly, as if many images occur at once, and then returns to the blackness it showed before...

OOC: Too bad Ceera didn't know about the 'other Annammu', outside the timestream... BIC:

Ceera's body reappears, flying apparently lifelessly toward the pool of molten stone.

Sesa hears one brief thought as Ceera falls.

# It has my shard! There's another Annammu! The other is str... #

There is a flash of white-hot fire as Ceera's body hits the magma. She sinks almost instantly, like a stone thrown into a snow drift.

There appears to be no sign of Ceera's mind left in the magma chamber...

The realtime Annammu seems rather surprised to see Ceera appear near him, and falling towards the magma. He is even more surprised as she is 'killed' on touching the magma.

"Oh no, no cheating me of my prize that easily." It steps over to where the body vanished, reaching into the magma he pulls out a burning, melting form. Surprisingly, it seems to engulf the form in darkness, while holding it by an arm far above the magma , which then receeds to show Ceera, restored as she was before striking the magma. "And now, where is my prize, methinks it is on your pretty bracelet..."

The old wizard angrily turns towards Jester and states testily, "And I don't see why ShishiOsa could have entrusted his air to one who so obviously doesn't need bloodflow to the brain..."

He shakes his head angrily, scorning himself for his angry outburst. He then turnst to Acoldice (someone he already likes, reminding him of his mentor Ki) and starts asking about the new crystal appendage. "This is amazing.. I can actually feel the tips of my fingers, and even the life force through them. My magic even feels stronger... than.... ever....." he slows down mid-sentence and points with the newly formed arm at the mirror.

"Wasn't there three sections before? Or was there always four?"

The Acoldice smiles and shakes his head at the outburst, He then speaks to all and then answers Emberage, "Turning against each other will not do us any good. Yes, it is constructed of living crystal, it will grow and heal, it is much sturdier than your own arm was and is rather adept at enhancing magic.

"Four?" The Acoldice turns in surprise, to look at the mirror, "It did split. There's four of them now, where did that one come from?"

The new section seems to have difficulty locking in on its object as if it is now properly alligned in its tracking." The Acoldice then spots the actions of the Annammu with Ceera, "Perhaps we might want to save her, after all, for some reason it restored her...odd."

The Acolidce speaks to some of the other magelike Yetagorn, and they quickly move off to discuss something. They quickly return, "Yes it can be done, by linking the box to the mirror we might be able to construct a portal to any where with in the dream that there is a clear fix..however it might leave us vulnerable to Annammu gaining entrance here."

The Acoldice listens then turns to the assembled group, "I ask your council, do you think the convienince is worth the risk?"

Raging, Annammu shakes Ceera's inert form furiously, "WHERE IS IT!!! YOU HAD IT! I KNOW YOU DID! Perhaps in the magma?"

The Darkness touches the magma with a move that would be akin to a human stomping its foot. The effect is instantaneous, the magma hardens, trapping Sesa partially within it. Seemingly uncaringly the being tosses Ceera unceremoniously to the fractured rock near Ceera, then sinks into the cracks.

Only to emerage a few moments later, prizeless, then it notices that the darkness that encased Ceera is gone. It seems to radiate pleasure of a sort, "Of course, of course...I didn't realize there was that much in you to be shed witch. But you have my thanks, here, have your crystal back, it means nothing to me now. I have nearly won." As the darkness tosses the crystal figure back towards Ceera's form, it reforms into a rose, landing on her inert body, restoring Sesa's movement and the being laughs heartily as it vanishes and the magma begins to reform.....

"I'm against it. This is already risky business, and we don't need any more. Look what that beast has already done."

Here, she gestured around to Emberage, Rusty, and Vedas.

"However..." she remarked, with a kind of pondering look on her face. "If we set a trap for him here, in case he does come through, it may work. As long as we cover all the bases."

With that, she glared around at the group.

"...And if we're not too busy squabbling amongst ourselves and reminscing about our pasts, I'd like to concentrate on the security of our futures."

{NOTE - Had to edit this to cope with a silmutaneous post from GM. - Ceera}

quote:
Originally posted by ANNAMMU:

Ceera still looks dead, or at least unconscious. No thoughts come from her still form.

There was no sign of the crystal shard on Ceera's bracelet. Many interesting things, but nothing green and crystaline. Indeed, the only things on the bracelet that don't appear to be silver are a red obsidian flame, that is flickering slightly, and a very tiny rose bud, also of red obsidian. Neither had the magical properties of the shard that Annammu seeks. The rest are a very odd collection of silver charms. A sword, a broomstick, a figure of a tigress, a figure of a phoenix...

When Annammu tosses Ceera aside, she lands like a broken rag doll, still inert, as he sinks down into the cracks.

When Annammu returns and tosses Sesa's crystal rose at Ceera, it vanishes, and reappears as a charm on Ceera's bracelet.

After Annammu leaves, when the first of the magma again touches Ceera, her body bursts into a fifty foot diameter, yellow-white fireball, reforming again as the Solar Phoenix, with her bracelet on one leg. Intensely bright sunlight again fills the magma chamber.

Ceera's telepathic voice calls out from the Phoenix, so that Sesa can hear her.

# Annammu underestimated me. I am neither dismissed, nor destroyed, so easily as that. But there is a stronger version of himself outside of the timestream. That one attacked me as I sidestepped time to steal your crystal from the lesser one. It has the shard I was protecting. We must find a way to get the crystal shard back. #

Seemingly between one moment and the next, Rusty goes from the experience of shattering pain to something that, while not painful, is extremely disquieting.

He silently listens to the yetagorn medic's explanation... until the very end, when he whistles softly in appreciation. "This is amazing work, Doctor," he says in a highly-respectful tone. "I thank you for healing my wounds and sparing me the pain I could surely have expected from ordinary treatment."

He sits up gingerly, looking a little uneasy... even though the worst of the damage and all the pain has been eliminated, there is a sensation of disjointedness not just in his spine but in other parts of his body. "No pain," he says quietly to the doctor. "But it's clear that there's knitting to do... hmmm, there's something else I'd better check..."

The look of surprise returns to his face, for no apparent reason. To the raccoon, though, it's very apparent -- he's just tried to activate his Visual Field Display:

-------- WX-FX System [/b]Inoperative[/b] --------

(( More than bones were broken here, it seems. But what? What is being corrected that the Yetagorn doctors could not fix... and maybe didn't even know was there to be fixed? I guess I should be glad that it's going to repair itself, but damn... TWO WEEKS? This isn't good at all. ))

Despite this, he manages to put away the dismayed look and replace it with a wan little grin, saying, "Don't mind me, please. The armor is beautiful as well as practical. I may even regret losing it once everything has healed up. Thank you again for saving me... I hope I can repay the favor, and soon." He looks about, and not seeing those who were with him before his altercation with ANNAMMU, asks, "Can you tell me where the others are?"

*****

He comes into the hall just after the fourth panel appears in the mirror... and though he doesn't really know what's going on in the fourfold panels, the Acoldice's question is clear enough. "We cannot hide here forever, but I don't think it would be a good idea to break this sanctuary -- if it is such -- just yet."
