Sleeping Beauty? (Intro - open)
      #370695 - Tue Jul 29 2003 02:20 PM

(OOC: I know it's a little late, but better late than never. This thread takes place before my other posts, therefore all things allready happend to Neema didn't happen.)

It's a starlit night, the moon is not yet full, but it allready is bright enough to see. At the edge of a forest a wide, but shallow stream breaks through the woods and flows unhurriedly down a hill.
If someone is near by, he (or she) might hear a "PLOP". Suddenly at a moment's notice, a metall bed stands in the middle of the stream. The depth of the water is only half a foot, leaving the bedclothes dry.

In the bed lies a little girl. She would look like an anthropomorphic cat, if there wasn't the long ears and the tassel at the end of her tail. Her fur is mostly black except for some light grey spots here and there.
At day you could see that her hair and her tassel are light brown, but at night it looks light grey too.
She wears a long, blue shirt with stars and moons on it (obviously her pyjamas). It might be possible, if someone has very sharp eyes (or is very close), to see two small wristbands, each with a small doll attached to (a black cat on the left hand and a brown donkey on the right)

Altough Neema was just transported from her home into the middle of a stream, she is still asleep.

(OOC: Anyone seen a prince?)

Keijya was nodding off by the stream when a sudden splash sent him leaping to his feet, ready for attack. His jaw nearly hit the ground when he saw the bed in the water. "What in the..."

Slowly, Keijya walks toward the bed and sees that there is a small, furry "person" in it. What's even stranger is that the small figure appears to still be asleep.

As Keijya nears the bed to find out just who this is and how and why they put their bed in the middle of a stream, he picks up a scent...

*Sniff* *sniff* "I smell... chocolate!!" Now he rushes to the edge of the stream, and suddenly comes to a screeching halt. He now appears very nervous. "Ack...water!" Keijya very much wants to see who or what is in the bed (and take their chocolate too), but the water is just too scary! Keijya dances around the water's edge, nervously putting toes in and quickly taking them back out, and yells "Hey, wake up! Hey, you!"

Since his transformation, Taua has enjoyed the occasional nightly stroll. Sleep came easily to him, but he no longer required the usual amount to keep on going. In addition, he loved the fact that the night was much calmer than the day. Usually. This night, there seemed to be a dancing lion boy trying to wake someone in a bed in a middle of a stream.

Strange times were indeed ahead.

"Now see here son," Taua said to the young demi-man, "you can't wake her with hushed tones like that. You do this instead." With that, Taua raised his walking staff and brought it down onto the metal bed frame with a loud clang.

"See? Much more effective."

Due to the loud metallic sound Neema sits up startled. "Ah! I'm up, I'm up. Just let me sleep a few more minutes." she says. She opens her eyes and is very surprised, as she dozily takes a look around. "Where am I? What happend to my room? And what's with all the water?" she mutters.

Then she notices two men standing near by. "Maybe they know what happend here." she thinks and puts her feet out of the bed. As her feet touch the water, she suddenly is wide awake and a shiver runs through her body. "Brrr. Cold. Better evade it"
She puts the feet on the water a second time, but this time her feet don't sink in. Then she quickly stands up and hurries over the water towards the two men, anxious to touch the water only as short as possible (like you would walk, barefoot on a cold stone floor)

When she arrives at the bank she breathes a sigh of relief. After turning towards the two she says: "Hello! Can you tell me where I am and how I got here?" a few moments later she adds "My name is Neema"

(OOC: The chocolate is in the belt pouch, which hangs on the head end of the bed)

"Where are you? That's hard to say. How did you get here? That's difficult to know. What's my name? My name is Taua. Why am I answering my own questions? Beats me," Taua dictates. "Nice trick with the water. Where did you learn to do that?"

A little ways downstream a small faery like girl happily skips to the streams edge, soon followed by a curious looking glowing tiny blob of light who is lazily floating in air behind the girl occasionally turning into small bird, plants, animal, and a rather funny looking version of Neema sleeping in her bed. After a few moments of inspection, which includes poking the inert surface a few times and giggling, she stands and begins looking for the source of this strange effect. Once she spots the odd grouping she merrily skips over a huge happy smile plastered on her face. “Hello!!” She waves excitedly, the creature behind giggle impishly this time morphing into a chibi Keijya. “I’m Naween.” –getting the introduction out of the way- “Would any of you know why the water seems solid?”

Hearing the Taua speaking in questions, confuses Neema a little bit. "That's not what I expected as answer. I know less than before." she thinks.
When she is about to answer his sole question he didn't answer himself, she hears Naween. "Hello, my name is Neema." she says smiling, "As for the water, I made it solid for a short time, because it was so cold and I didn't want to get my feet wet."
Then she turns back to Taua to answer his question: "The ability to manipulate water is something that just showed up, I didn't learn it, but I got trained in it. I think my teacher called it..." she searches for the right word, "Hydrantkinesis or something like that."
After a short pause she continues: "It's not unusual to have such powers where I come from. My dad and my big sister have some special powers too. Is this not common here?"

She turns to Naween again: "Do you know where I am?"

In rapid succession, Keijya was surprised, shocked, and confused.

He was slightly suprised by Taua's arrival and loud noise he made, shocked by the furry child's walking on water ("If I could do that, I'd have it made," he briefly thinks to himself), and confused by the sudden appearance of what seems to be a child version of himself. Now he was being assailed by questions. How was he supposed to know how the water got solid? Powers? What kind of powers? Are they common around here? Keijya, for his part, had just one question.

"What's going on here? Who are you all?"

Yep!!" Naween nods happily, giggling a bit as her little pet bounces around Neema's head as the Napping Cat. "You're in the dream of a cat." She then grins and pulls forth a tiny brightly colored purple ball from a black velvet bag at her side. "If your feet are cold I can make you some nice fluffy warm slippers." She looks up at Neema holding up the little ball. "If you like." Her pet on the other hand continues erratically bouncing amongst the group giggling madly.

Neema answers Keijya: "Sorry, I can't tell you anything. The only thing I know is, I went into bed and when I woke up I was here."

Then she sees the little, bouncing thingy around her head and says: "Hey, I remember that. I was dreaming of something, which looked like this."

As Naween tells her about the Napping Cat she sais: "The dream of a cat? That's weird... In my dream the cat was grining not sleeping."

To the offering of slippers she says: "You can make slippers? I'd like to have some, if you don't mind."

"Wow.. so I'm not alone in being snatched away in my sleep." Smirking, Nat emerged from a slight covering of trees, her hands in her pockets, as usual playing over the hilts of the blades she kept hidden. "Quite the little gathering.. there's no privacy in this place, is there?"

Sneering, more to herself than anything else, Natsuko studied all present, tipping her head vaguely. "If any of you perhaps don't know, or are wondering, you are currently in The Napping Cat's Dream."

//Informative today, aren't you, Nat?//

Shut up. I'm feeling vaguely helpful.. cut me some slack.

//I'll cut you, but it won't be slack, hun.//

Ignoring the voice now, the lashing of her tails showing the agitation that was not visible on her face, she proceeded to study those here once again, murmuring. "By the way.. my name is Natsuko. You may call me Nat, if you want.."

"Napping Cat's Dream?" Keijya murmurs to himself. Now that's an odd name for a country. And what was this about going to sleep and waking up somewhere else? He suddenly had the distinct feeling that he was very far away from anywhere he'd ever been in his life. Not that it really bothered him. Here was as good a place to be as any, even if there were strange magical children around.

Suddenly aware that he might look rather silly standing in the midst of this small crowd talking to himself, Keijya decided to follow Nat's lead. "Name's Keijya. So," he says to Neema, "did you learn to do that thing with the water, or were you born knowing how?"

"Hi, Nat!" greets Neema the newcomer and smiles at her. "You were asleep too, when you got here? Hm... maybe it's easier to come into a dream when you're dreaming yourself." she ponders.

Then Neema turns to Keijya to answer his question: "Well, I think I was born with this ability. But I first noticed it, when I was 5 1/2 years old. I wanted to take a bath, as suddenly the water sort of jumped on me and stuck on me. After a few seconds the water fell off. I was so surprised I wasn't even scared. And after that incident I got a special teacher at school, who trained with me."

Blinking slightly at the girl's cheery attitude, she offered something of a half-smile, nodding a little at Neema's last comment. "Perhaps you're right.."

//So sweet, the children. Don't you agree?//

Oh, yes, Quite.

Her mental voice was acidic, laced with biting sarcasm all directed at the other voice.

//You seem to be in a beautiful mood today, Nat.//

I know. And you're not helping.

Blocking off the other voice as best she could, she focused again on those present, studying them slightly and idly listening to them speak with one another.

Keijya's brown eyes grew very wide. "The water...jumped on you?!" The lion-man became somewhat blue in the face and edged nervously back from the stream. "That's it - there is no way, ever, that I will ever be able to take a bath in my entire life!" His ears and tail twitched with fear at the very thought of being attacked by bathwater.

Taua couldn't help but smirk. "Once I was attacked by air. But that never made me afraid of breathing."

Taua then turned to the girl who was the center of all of this activity. "Well, Neema, my name is Taua, an dit is a pleasure to find you. But the longer we talk, the more concerned I am for your health. Are you cold wearing just that nightgown?"

"But then you'll get all stinky and your hair will felt." she says. Then she realises that she might offended him and says: "Ups, sorry. But you don't have to worry. The "attack" was just a side effect, because I had no control over my ability at that time."

After Taua's introduction she says: "Taua? sounds nice... Now that you mention it, I do feel a little bit chilly."

She turns to her bed, still standing in the water. "I'think I'll get my blanket to keep me warm."
Suddenly there is motion in the water near the bed. The water level raises and lifts the bed. It almost looks like many small hands hold onto it. Then the bed slowly comes closer. When it reaches the bank, the water flows further, untill the bed is completely on land. Then the water releases the "grip" on the bed and flows back in the stream. Neema walks up to the bed and wraps herself in the blanket.

Taua smiled. That is a really nice trick.

"The only reason I asked was because I happen to know a couple of spells that could simulate a campfire. A really unorthadox campfire that doesn't shed light, but it gives off a nice warm aura."

"A campfire would be nice. Although I would prefer it with light. But it's okay as long as I can roast marshmallows on it." this said Neema reaches at her pillow, opens it and pulls out a pack of marshmallows . With an evil grin she says: "That's my secret hiding place."
As she noticed what she just blabed out she says: "Well, formerly secret hiding place... Okay, everyone gets one marshmallow, if he promises to keep the secret."

Naween grins happily and hands Neema the little ball. When it comes in contact with the anthro’s hand it promptly turns into a pair very fluffy dark blue, with little stars and moons, terry cloth slippers. “There now you toes will be warm.” She then turns to Taua. “You were attacked by air?” She asks him, looking confused.

But he immediately forgets all about magic when Neema makes the offer of marshmallows. "Ohh, thank you!" he says, greedily gulping it down, and secretly wondering if there's more where that came from.

"Uh, thanks," Taua said, taking the strange white object, and putting it one of his empty vial containers.

"Yes, air. An air elemental to be precise. Kept on slamming us into the walls, which happened to be covered with wooden spikes. Those tended to hurt."

"Yes, the heat should be enough to roast these... things... and I might be able to make it glow slightly. Though before I do that, I would like to find a small clearing to set it up in."

As Naween hands Neema the ball, she opens her hand. Her eye's get big, when suddenly the ball transforms. "Whoa, that's cool. And they even have the same pattern as my pyjamas."
She puts the slippers on and runs around to test them, while giggling happily. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" she says quickly.

After calming down a bit she hears about an air elemental. She asks Taua: "Air Elemental? Like in the fairy tales? Are there really elementals here? And what about dragons, unicorns, giants, fairies,...?" she takes a deep breath, because she ran out of air.

(OOC: For Keijya: The pack of marshmallows is still quite full and the belt pouch on the bed is sweet with chocolate and other candy.
For Taua: We are near the edge of the forest. A few steps and you are on a field with short grass.)

Keijya virtually ignores all talk about strange, magical beings; he is much too focused on food. Eating the marshallow has once again made him aware of the smell of sweets in the air. The thought of having toasted marshmallows over an open fire entices him even more.

"Mmmm, a marshmallow toast sounds good. Too bad nobody has any graham crackers..."
