For lack of a better title..."Music Thread" (#5 - The Path Will Be)

I confess, I was slightly tired when creating this thread. But it's up! I just wanted to get a little feedback on how I'm doing. Just a note: for those who aren't fond at all of filk, you probably won't be interested in these. They're sort of ballad-like, and unless I'm in a very strange mood, I'll avoid posting the few about things like the horrors of lunchladies. ^_^;; Most of them will be about some story or another, some about Melenna and some not. The first one I'm posting is sort of a one-shot test, just a sci-fi something I came up with when having a song-writing contest with a friend.
Oh, and I think you have to wait a second and then play the song from the beginning, it starts a second too late. I'm not sure why.

Sounds like chunks got lost here and there - not sure if it's a glitch in my playback software, or a glitch in my download.
I like it! The song works well as an unaccompanied solo, though my mind's ear hears brass and pitched percussion as well as drums. I'd need to listen through it a few times to see what I could come up with.
What kind of microphone did you use for this recording? Are you familiar with any multi-track recording software?
Am I going off the deep end already?

This one was actually not a self-recording, I was performing at a fantasy/sci-fi convention and a nice person recorded it for me for posterity.
I listened to the link myself, it sounds alright to me. I'm sorry if it didn't play the way it was supposed to. ^_^;;
I have a few song tracks that I did add instrumental parts to using Cakewalk, but it took a long time, and I'm out of practice. I'm going to have to try again someday, but for the moment I'm busy just recording voice parts for everything. But yes, drums sound good.

I'm impressed with the sound quality. If I can figure out what caused that strange little glitch (like I said, might be this computer or its software) I might take a shot at adding a drum track.
I'm also impressed with your performance!
This may be drifting off topic - which version of Cakewalk do you have?

Aw. Thanks. ^_^;;
I have Cakewalk Home Studio 2. It's fairly easy to make decent tracks if you know what you're doing, which unfortunately after all this downtime, I'm not sure is true of me.
In any case, I'm giving a second track a try. This one is mostly self-explanatory fantasy, but it's about a story other than Melenna's. I hope it downloads alright. Just a note, for all of these tracks you'll have to do what I said in the first post about restarting it before playing, for some reason the automatic play skips a few seconds.

This file plays all right. I think my download glitched on the first one.
Now I wish I had a guitar! I applauded right along with the recorded audience.
"Eyes of the Dark" sounds like it runs off the bottom end of your vocal range; have you tried a different key?

I'll be the first to admit that these two songs so far are a few years old. This one in particular I was very nervous about singing in public, and I think I started just one key too low. Someday I'll redo this, but for the moment I'm happy enough with it, even if I do get somewhat hoarse at the bottom ranges. ^_^;;
I have instruments, and never learned how to play them competently, unfortunately. Someday I'll pick up that one stringed thing again....

Your voice is amazing! By George, your pitch and... My, you have a talent there, dear!

Thank you. ^_^;;
This one's one of the ones I recorded on my own. There's a slight difference in quality, given that I don't have the professional equipment that the people at the convention had, but I think it came out alright. This is about three different characters, one of them being Melenna. Again, pause and restart from the beginning for the whole thing correctly, please.

Wow. I echo Kalakailin in saying that you have an impressive voice. What was your recording setup for this song? If that was an average computer microphone, that was amazing work!

Melenna here, being too lazy to switch logins.
The microphone is not one of the flimsy little computer microphones, it's an actual mic, which is the reason it came out sounding decent at all. I think the company is Shure.
Now that the hosting site is actually working again, here's another track. Feedback on lyrics as well as vocals is welcome, too. This one is sort of random, not about any particular story...it was actually written as a reflection of a friend's RL relationship, and the fact that I admired her song about phoenixes and wanted to write one of my own.
Just a note, the site nixed its direct links to tracks, so just click "stream" on the page it brings you to.

 Thank you Kimara! ^_^

Ah yes, Shure. Certainly among the better microphones, especially for the budget. I have an SM-57 that still sounds pretty good, especially considering how long I've had it. And the fact that I got the thing used!
This song sounds like it might be an easier project. May I try adding a drum track?

Very nice! You have such a lovely voice!

Ok, so it's been a long time, but I think I have another song to add. I figured I could resurrect this thread for that purpose.
Click "download" on the site this brings you to, and make sure to restart the song from the beginning, otherwise it skips. The song is pretty self-explanatory. See first post from a long time ago for the same disclaimer as always concerning filk. ^_^()

Lovely work, Melenna!
Once again, I'm tempted to ask if you would be willing to collaborate on a recording over the 'net, but I'd have to see if I can get ahold of the same software you recorded with.
My choir starts rehearsals tomorrow, so that's going to eat up one night out of the week...
