Operation: Avoid (Redux) [Closedish/Invite or Personal Request (PM) only)]
      #638317 - Mon Oct 06 2008 10:51 PM

(( I'm going to start off with a bit of a warning ahead of time- this is going to be a thread which isn't a typical action/battle thread, but, rather, it's going to be somewhat of a massed hysteric escape of a city center. Choose to fight, if you will, but choose your battles wisely, as the enemy will be both superior in firepower, tactically, and in numbers, by a great deal. No "organizations" larger than 10, please, that's all I ask.

If you wish for a quick push in the right direction, your first post may be simply an intro post- put yourself somewhere in what may be called "the main stip"- apart of the City of "Thereville".

Take a look at this thread, before making your first post- please, it has any and all information you'll need on the original Avoid, as well as information on Thereville.

Keep yourselves concentrated in "the main strip" (which includes, a Movie Theater, a Bar, a Restaurant and a Arcade, as well as outside the Main Strip. Use one of these as a location tag. ))

February 14th, Friday
9:35 PM, Current Temperature, -11C

This was a night like any other. Perhaps, it was a touch cooler than usual- it had been a cold Winter, even now, in February, winter clung onto Thereville like a bad aliment. The air was crisp and cool. But, for those with some kind of sixth sense, or premonition, the air stunk with something unmistakably bad. But, what it was? No human nor avatar, no matter how strong, could tell.

Life in the city continued without a hitch, cars returning from work- people going about their usual fridays- parties, bars, hookups- young couples on the street. A normal friday, in a normal citycenter.

A Movie Theater complex- the "Black Box" as it was known (for it's rather plain, yet unmistakable building shape), is a source of entertainment for a number of teens and adults alike- with large numbers of people both exiting and entering it.

A well known bar, the "Rusty Pipe", owned by an elderly couple, is located underground one of the apartment buildings which is located on the main strip. Everything about the bar seems stolen straight off the set of cheers- besides the awkwardly quiet fourty-something drunkards- and the irritating collage kids that frequent the place.

A Restaurant- not entirely fancy, nothing requiring reservations, but definitely better quality than fast foot restaurants-, "Uncle Tony's" serves the best in Italian food for miles around, for sure, great atmosphere too- quiet, but not awkwardly so. A friendly staff, and great prices, even. Just don't don't talk to the men dressed in the crisp black suits. They're busy.

The arcade was attached, next door to the movie theater, bustling and busy at this time, it was filled to the brim with kids of all ages, playing anything from DDR, to Dino-Hunter9000. Flashing lights may cause seizures, however, so use discretion.

The strip of stores connect to a (now closed) mall, and a number of people walk down each side of the road, dressed warmly for the cold February weather. A light snow falls outside, blanketing the area in a fresh wave of snowfall, Winter's last push of the year, perhaps.

Uncle Tony's - best Italian in Thereville! new
      #638321 - Tue Oct 07 2008 04:30 AM

It had been a bad week. He had planned to be here in Thereville on the Monday, to assess the general state of the native military then go and make reccomendations to the UNP Security Council on the degree of support Thereville required. But Monday had seen the UNP General Appropriations Commitee abandon the proposed improvements to the Gwyrd Ddraig skyhook to once again sink into infighting over who was and who wasn't giving enough to the noble cause. This then spilt over into the more general Security Council meeting on the Wednesday, when they should have been discussing the latest UNP venture into southern badlands. Caine had been tied up all week trying to keep the political process in motion. To cap it all his private transport had engine trouble which had taken the best part of the day to fix... and as soon as it touched down, the engineers reported the trouble had flared up again.

The day was a wash, so a bad-tempered Caine had planned to settle down for the night. Only... he couldn't pass into the semi-concious state that counted as slumber for a creature like him. Something was keeping him a little edgy. A little jumpy. He couldn't put his finger on it... and decided to do something about it. Caine called a taxi from the front desk of his hotel, and hit town. A little food (he liked the look of the Cervello alla Milanese) would perhaps sort things out.

Amethyst was only recently driven to Thereville by a handful of so-called mercinaries and bounty hunters. Bloody well, in this nightmare they're around every corner, always looking to make a quick buck on the nearest thing with a price. She heard they up and killed the local wildlife if it looked at them the wrong way... Not that she was any different, but this was getting ridiculous. Anyway, after a certain period of chasing, the woman found herself in this city. It was there that she ran into an alley and asked herself, "How do those [censored] assholes find me so easily?"

"It's the clothes, Jappo. You look like a freaking foreigner. Go get a Thereville cap or something." Some homeless guy in that same alley responded. Adding, "I'll sell you mine for ten dollars. Please, I really need the money. My mind is loosing it! The end is coming you know! Master will consume us all!!!"

... Clothing, of course. She glanced over the homeless guy, but decided not to take his. It wasn't that he was poor or insane, it was his smell. So disregarding the racist remark and the bastard's need for cash, Ame stepped back out into the street, was immediately found and chased by another green hunter, and lured him into a dark area of the city.

Leaving the darkness, Ame now wore a mildly used, large pair of jeans, green un-tucked shirt, and black jacket with 'Big Bad Wolf' on the back of it. The pants were held up by a belt, which she used to hold her sword.

Now more accommodated to the area, she went to the nearest bar for a drink to forget her last few days of relentless attack. She sat at the counter, asked for a hard drink, "I need something strong. Now." and waited for it. There were some wild, loud idiots (college kids) here as well, but she tried her best to pay them no mind. During her wait, Ame removed a small pouch of leaves from her new large jacket pocket and chewed on one. This is one night where she wont raze the area and accidentally eat people.

Some places just had a quality, old-time feel to them, the kind of place that makes you want to stop and just admire the people and quaint sights, like Thereville. Unfortunatly he felt much more at home in places like ghettos and war-torn villages. Still, in the play that was his existance this could, at least for him, be considered a rest between acts. After all, he had no place to go, no place to be, and waiting to hear from a prospective employer. So Thereville had been a stop on the road, so to speak, and he had decided to take advantage of such a thing, perhaps cool his heels in a sense.

The outside wall of Thereville's bar supported him currently, leaning casually against it. Some tended to give him strange looks, considering as usual he was in full gear, looking as though he were perparing to make a full assualt. Truth be told he just didn't like the concept of other people, namely hotels, watching over his gear. Old habits die hard. A cigarette jutted out of the corner of his mouth, smoke rising in lazy spirals skyward, before mismatched eyes of green.

He watched the goings on around him, people on the street, the buildings, with a casual air. Mostly, the reason he was outside was because the cold was good for him, kept things togeather. It was one of those times with nothing to do that he was free to let his mind wander, to just zone out in a fashion. At times he found such a thing bothersom though he did respect the fact that once in a while even he needed some time to just let existance slip away from his senses so that he could just sort a few things out.

Of all the ailments known to man, Sharlo supposed boredom was the least of them.

After all, boredom afforded comforts not known to other miseries. He was neither starving, nor running for his life, nor slowly dying from exposure. No, rather he was sitting in a heated bar in the most boringly safe metropolis this side of Anycity, nursing a glass of strong spirits that carried only minimal risks of blindness.

Life was good, right? It wouldn't last, so might as well enjoy it while he had the chance...

He took a miniscule sip of his drink. The night was young, and he had to make this drink last. The amount of work he could dredge up in this town was decent, but it wasn't sufficient to get him thoroughly plastered every night. The best he could manage was maintaining a light buzz over the course of the evening, just enough to keep his mind off the things he knew would be waiting for him when he finally put down to sleep for the night.

A bit of movement near the entrance caught his eye: What looked to be a woman in oversized clothing, with what was probably a sword stuck through her belt. He couldn't make out what she was saying over the loud chatter of the college brats, but there was just enough off about her he'd be keeping watch out of the corner of his eye.

OOC: May I ask, during your next post, to use the emboldened Areas atop your posts, so I can keep track, please?

-----------------

Restaurant
(Caine)

The restaurant's atmosphere was best described as "calm" and "forgiving". People chatted, not loudly, but not quietly. It didn't appear, once inside, that it was an extraordinarily fancy place, but neither was it a fast foot restaurant. People sat themselves, and there were quite a few vacant seat in the the front of the place.

In the back, which appeared to be a smoking section (There wasn't any clear concise labels, but from the look of the various people chain-smoking in the "back" area seemed to be a good enough example. The entire place was an L shape, with a thin and long back area, and a short and wide front area. Lighting was dim and yellow, and the front seats, unlike the back, were mostly booths, private, and comfortable.

He could take a seat as he pleased, anywhere he pleased, and he'd find that a menu, as well as cutlery, was already placed in front of him, by a cheerful young waitress- Italian, by the looks of her- who would immediately make an exit, back to check on someone else, while the good general makes his "choice" of food.

Bar
(Sharlo, Amethyst)

The bar was overall, a cheerful little place. A little chilly (being underground, for the most part) but, a nice area. Inside were two groups of young collage students, being themselves- loud, obnoxious, for the most part, but, not doing anything to the point that one would complain about them- this was a bar, after all. They all sat away from the immediate bar-stools, on separate tables, in two separate groups of four. An forty-something businessman sits at the bar, clinging a glass of some kind of hard liquor, sipping at it occasionally. His hair was graying, and he wore a fine black suit, which was ruffled and dirty from a long day of work, and now, he was rather drunk, it was clear.

There were two bartenders, both were rather kind looking 40-something, and a couple of some kind- if they were married or not, it seemed as if they ran thee bar as a team, and they seemed to speak to each other as if they were married, chatting idly as the other bar-goers drank and spoke, and did what was the usual.

Outside Bar
(Ricter)

The bar, actually, was located directly across the street from the movie theater, (although, it was hidden a good distance away, with a road, and a huge parking lot separating them- and, to the bar's immediate left was actually the Restaurant that was spoken of above. Ricter finds the night's air utterly and totally calm, without wind. It was a cool night, but, the total lack of wind kept one rather warm- a good night for a smoke, at the very least.

A small dusting of snow fell on the grow, blanketing it in but a few fresh millimeters of the white stuff, coating any footsteps, dirty snow, and any other signs of life. For a Friday, things seemed rather calm, outside. The sky was cloudy, and one could only spot stars through breaks in the clouds. Traffic was almost obscenely quiet, with the narrow roadways almost free of vehicles (even at the early time of night).

Bar

Look…sip...look…sip...

By now Sharlo was intimately aware of his own paranoid tendencies. Said paranoid tendencies had saved his life more than once, but when they weren't saving his life, they were nagging at him like an itch he couldn't scratch. He knew he shouldn't be obsessing over one oddly-dressed woman with a sword. If she made a move, he'd be able to have a gun on her in a moment, after all.

But tell that to his paranoia.

And then his compulsive look-sipping resulted in a prematurely-empty glass. Crap. Oh well, might as well make the best of it.

Bringing his glass up to the bar, he took every opportunity to get a surreptitious look at Amethyst, using his peripheral vision and any bar mirrors if available. Once he reached the bar, he signaled the nearest bartender, asking for another drink. He'd make sure to sneak at least one look in Ame's direction, disguising it as a look at something else. What the heck is she chewing?

Outside Bar

Upon finishing his cigarette, he flicked it away from him, watching embers trail it as it spiraled off to land in the snow, hissing quietly as the moisture extinguished it. Adjusting the shoulder strap of his one currently free weapon, he pushed off of the wall, turning idly towards the resturant and beginning at an extremely lethargic pace towards the resturant. He had only done a small bit of walking since he'd come into town and to his logic now was as good a time as ever to get a general layout of the rest of town. Such a thing was customary for him now, a habit that had been burned into his brain.

While often enough he despised quiet, as it signaled a lack of anything, this kind of quiet had him thinking. Even in small towns the beginning of the weekend was a decent night to be out and about. Things seemed a little more laid back here, though he was willing to assume that everyone was already at their chosen destination and enjoying themselves.

So as the snow fell, the white flakes beginning to accumulate in his hair and upon his shoulders, he simply walked on. Passing the resturant caused only a momentary pause to take a quick look at it, the same way one would familiarize themselves with a landmark, before he trudged on through the accumulating snow. If he were anywhere but this town he very well may say it was too quiet.

Oni looked at herself in the mirror then adjusted her head. Tightening the thick velvet choker around her neck, the Mazoku gave herself another quick look over and gave a satisfied nod to her reflection before fetching her coat and having the concierge desk call her a cab.

It had been a bad week. She had come to Thereville with General Caine, serving as his bodyguard but also in her duties as Special Advisor. What ended up happening was that her comments were pushed aside by the various commitees on the grounds of her being an "outsider" and supposedly not qualified to advise on the state of Thereville's forces. Of course she had to stay. Oni would do her duty whether they chose to apply her suggestions or not. And her duties to General Caine kept her there as well. But now it was Friday and she was still here with Caine's transport having engine troubles.

Her mood was actually not that terrible after the week. Yes, it was a week of sheer annoyance, but other things kept her mind off that. She was edgy, something seemed off but she couldn't quite trust her senses right now. Not with how things have been lately.. Her room had been across from Caine's and she'd heard him leave. When he did not return after half an hour, it left her ill at ease. Oni was off duty, and while she knew he had protection with him, she couldn't leave him be, not with this odd sense in the air.

Restaurant

After a quick change into civilian clothes (her rather macabre uniform did tend to put people off), some quick questioning, a call for a cab, now, she stood infront of Uncle Tony's. Stepping in, she found herself in a rather warm atmosphere. The Mazoku gave a look around, quickly taking in the layout of the restuarant and the people within. Then she headed straight for the General. No one needed to show her where he was sitting. His aura was indication enough even if he was sitting in the far back.

"General Caine," a quick salute, "fancy seeing you here..."

Kristy finished the last scraps of her Chocolate-Almond Torte. Delicious. She liked dreaming about eating. Unfortunately, recently her dreams about eating had been ending unpleasantly, when she was unable to offer sensible means of payment. She checked her boot. Sigh... Once again, nothing but Eggplant Reserve Notes. Maybe the Rotating Eggplants had visited to "persuade" the proprietors to accept the notes? That had happened once or twice, though the staff tended to be nervous about anyone with the notes anyway. And "Uncle Tony's" had Eggplant Parmigiana on the menu, a good sign (or should that be a bad sign?) the Rotating Eggplants had not had a successful visit.

Kristy looked around at her fellow patrons. Oh, dear. A lizard with a skull for a head. This is definitely a nightmare. (Okay, only half a skull. Will it only be half a nightmare?) And the woman approaching reminds her of Boinky. But in a "Excuse me, I'm from Internal Affairs. Could I ask you a few questions about these receipts" kind of way.

"Oh, I hope I just get thrown out," Kristy thinks. "And not audited."

Restaraunt new

Restaraunt

Unlike Oni, Caine seemed to eat, work and sleep in his immaculately-pressed uniform. His concession to a world that demanded leisure time was an overcoat (currently hung up in the cloakroom) and a jacket that while smart, were colour-neutral and lacked the regalia of a 5-star general.

"Special Advisor.", Caine reached into his jacket, "No need to stand on ceremony here.". From within the jacket, he pulled out a carton of Ebon Harrows, and teased one black-filtered cigarette from the gently writhing mass. His hand reached into his jacket again.

"After all", out came a brass oblong. A winged serpent had been engraved on one side, "You're off duty.". Pushing the cigarette into the fleshy part of his mouth, he flicked open the oblong and hit the striker. A blue-yellow flame played from the lighter as he steadied it over the cigarette. Those with good hearing would make out a faint scream as the cigarette caught alight.

He leaned back, and sucked deeply. Smoke began to curl out of his eyesocket. He looked at her through the other. "Hmmm?"

((Caine is sitting on the border between smoking and non-smoking. He likes his little jokes.))

Amethyst received her drink with an undue glare and little in the way of 'thank you'. Now why the bartender or his wife didn't throw her out immediately or shout back some nasty resistance is anyone's guess. In other bars, her demanding attitude and fancy social ways would get her thrown out on her ear. Wait until they learn that she has no money to pay for this drink, that should change everything. The woman grabbed her drink while she continued to chew her deadly nightshade - which in all honesty is open for the pub to see. It's not like she's hiding this bag of belladonna or anything. But it's also not like everyone in this establishment is a herbalist and knows good from bad plants. For all the college kids know with their limited experience, Ame could be chewing on marijuana or something.

A decent swig was taken of the beer. The woman closed her dark green eyes and tried to drown out the thunderous rumble of the bar's voices... Without much success. At least noone is likely to attack her in here. Those bastards are at least decent enough to hunt her outside in the streets (and that's an assumption on her part, since she's never been here before).

There wasn't much for Sharlo to see. She sat there, drank beer quietly to herself, muttered something profuse once in a while, and before that chewed on deadly nightshade leaves.

The Mazoku watched Caine's little ceremony a little too intently. Not that she wasn't familiar with his choice of smokes, far from it. Though she found the Ebon Harrows to be better than those noxious cigars he enjoyed on occasion. Giving herself a mental shake she simply nodded back at Caine after he'd finished lighting up his cigarette and taken the first drag. You never interupt a man before the first drag afterall.

"Yes, one is off duty, General" not dropping her formal tone in the slighest. "May one take a seat with you?" She would not ask if she could remain here with him. One did not need to ask to do one's duty.

"One hardly sees any restuarant that serves a proper Cervelo alla Milanese these days," trying for some casual talk, though as usual her tone ruined it all, "and one believes the General is one of the few who still know how to enjoy such a dish."

Restaraunt

((This reponse assumes that Oni sits down after Caine responds to her request.))

Caine guestured to the empty seat. "Please. But less of the 'General'. Keep it at 'sir'. After all, not everyone knows who I am. Let's have it stay that way, shall we?"

Caine watched Oni sit. He had never seen her off duty before, and was intrigued as to her choice of clothing. As a living, breathing creature, how could she, or any female for that matter willingly try to asphixiate themselves with fashionable clothing? Hmm... perhaps there was something in that... a new interrogation technique... He knew just the man to assign the job to.

Anyway.

"Yes. You have to be an expert to undestand brains. So many places don't quite understand how to do them. It's a tricky, but rewarding.", Caine grinned, "I should know."

"Of course, sir. One's apologies," she answers immediately.

While Oni was dressed in civilian clothes, she might as well be off duty for the military but on duty for some profession like.. overly strict and uptight school marm. Her dress was simple, long, and very covering, but still had a hint of elegance and was nicely form fitted. The long choker, though odd to have one that covered the whole neck, still fit it well with her ensemble. Though yes, looked very constricting..

"One would not doubt that at all," commenting on Caine's expertise of brains. "There are many interesting subtle and not so subtle qualities to them, even when it comes merely to taste," not speaking on the other aspects and uses for brains.. at least not in public.

"However, one believes one will go with a simple lasagna. Then head back to the hotel. One believes it has been a long week for the both of us..?" There was an awkward tone of suggestion in her voice. As if the Mazoku wasn't used to trying to push a superior to make a certain decision that she wanted.

Everyone

The low sound of a thump can be heard, off in the disance, crashing through the city- the source of the noise followed by a mettalic crash. Car horns honk and car alarms wail in the calm Winter's night.

There's then, a second thump, similar to the first, nearly moments later. Sharper, more well defined- but, still blurred by the dense city streets. Still much to far off to be easily defined.

Street
(Ricter)

For Ricter, on the street, the noise was heard quiet clearly, as it echoed throughout the air about him. A slight whine is heard, off in the distance, and the sound of vehicles, far off, can be heard, if he had particularly good senses. The noise, both, were comming from the north east, and the restaurant which he stood infront of, blocked his view of whatever it was- although, chances are, the hundred-some buildings behind that would have done just as well.

The halfmoon peaks out of the gray clouds of the night, and something, off draws his eyes upwards. The light snow seems to intensify for the time being, nearly instantly blanketing the cigarette butt he had discarded.

Bar
(Sharlo, Amethyst)

There's almost no sign of the thump from inside the bar, the noise of the occupants nearly drowning the noise out completely. Yes, Amethyst recieves her drink without much of a word. 'pa had a shotgun behind the counter- he's delt with vagrants before. They'll pay for their drink when staring down down twin barrels of a hilly-billy styled sawed of shotgun. But, he's nice enough to give people the benefit of the doubt. She is, at the very least, catching a few odd glances from some people- mostly from the drunken man, at the barstool, who is openly staring at her. One could easily disguise his drunken stare as oogling, perhaps.

Sharlo's glass was quickled replaced, and the bartended leaned a bit over the bar, tossing a thumb towards Amethyst, speaking rather quietly. The thump is heard only moments before he states- "Strange looking bird, 'ain't she?"

Restaurant
(Caine, Oni, Kristy)

Starting with the pair of Oni and Caine, a smiling waitress arrives, to take their order. She smiles to one, than the other, seemingly overly cheerful when speaking to the two dour figures. Seems she's quite used to their types. The waitress was a young girl, possibly not even out of her late teens- her complexion was pale, hair raven black. She wore the rather casual black unifom.

"Are you two ready for your orde-"

The small thump sound can be heard from inside and her head twists towards the kitchen, and she shakes her head, mumbling quietly. She seems to frown, and crosses her arms, moments later.

"Grandmama probably dropped something again. Excuse me a moment- I'll be back to take your orders, sorry."

And, with that, she makes haste back to the kitchen.

Outside

The first thump and crash possibly caught him off guard, as he turned quickly. Without word he turned once again, on his heel, making his way across the street only to turn again, as if moving the slight distance back would grant him a better view. The sound of car alarms, horns, almost making the second impact inaudiable. Then the celestial light from above, drawing mismatched eyes of green skyward to see the falling snow suddenly increased almost exponentialy.

For a moment his face had taken on a serious, neutral look. Then it suddenly split into a sinister smile. Those inside the resturant may, amidst the falling snow, see the militant looking figure swing the SMG off his shoulder, gripping it firmly before him, looking at the back of the magazine quickly before pulling back the bolt half way to check the chamber and releasing it forward with a sharp clack.

The way the precipitation had suddenly picked up, those impacts, just the feeling he imagined crawled up his spine. Somthing was about to happen, a gut feeling so to speak. Evil knew evil.

You posted this thread, like, 4 days ago. What happened to the posting spree between Caine and Oni? Lameness, I tell you!

Barra

Ame continued not doing all that much. Once she got her drink and chewed on her poisonous leaves, she started not caring about the world - which is exactly how she wanted it. Ya know, after all this drinking the woman does on a regular basis, it's a miracle that she doesn't have this huge beer belly under all those robes. Or maybe she does...

Ever since the whole wolf incident, time hasn't been very kind to the woman. She's constantly hungry and dried up her funds fixing this, as well as getting that recommended 'medication' to prevent the whole 'changing and killing people during the night' thing without her knowledge. Not that she's ever come to terms with the fact that's she's not cursed to be part furry - those vile demon creatures she's come to really hate since appearing in this Nightmare. But it doens't hurt to be superstitious and prepared. And it's not like eating belladonna has actually killed her yet.

In all of her thoughts on wolfism and currency concerns, she overhears the bartender talking to that guy over there. But only because she was glancing at the drunken fool staring at her (figuring out ways on how to remove his eyes to make him stop) and was then able to partially read the bartender's lips beyond said fool - with random gestures to her included. now the guy could have said anything, and could have been pointed and drunko between her and them, but she's going to take just about anything personally right now. "What did you say about me?" she says aloud in her gritty, low voice, above the crowd.

You know what? Since Sharlo is with the bartender and the bartender is assumably talking to him about her, she's going to blame and hate him too over this matter.

Restaraunt

The first thought to cross Caine's mind was "gas explosion". Gas explosion? For a little noise in the kitchen? Caine swung his fanged snout at the kitchen doors.

"Oni? What did you think you just heard?"

Bar

Sharlo vaguely heard the thump, but was distracted by enough things that he didn't really process it right away. First he was examining the surly sword-bearing woman out of the corner of his eye, then he was getting another drink from the bartender. "Eh?" He hiked an eyebrow at the barkeep at the 'strange-looking bird' comment. Not that she wasn't, but… compared to any number of strange nonhuman things in this plane, she was downright- Ah damn and she heard!

"Um…did you hear that?" He turned to the barman and Amethyst in turn, hoping to A)convince the woman they were talking about something besides her, and B)change the subject so the old fogey with the big mouth would hopefully not dig himself deeper. Actual concern for the source of the thump was a distant third in priorities, though the more Sharlo thought about it, the more he wondered if that sound could be something significant...

Restaraunt

The only inital indication that Oni even heard the odd thump sound was an ear twitching.

"One is not sure.. but one does not think it was from the kitchen," she replies after a pause, as she looks out the window. Her usual slight frown deepened a little as she noted the snow suddenly picking up. "No, one believes it was from outside. Please stay here, sir."

Getting up, the Mazoku steps outside the restaraunt, looking this way and that. She's back inside a moment later. "Sir, we should get you back to the hotel. There seems to be quite the commotion off in the distance, and a dead man very happy to have a SMG in his hands outside this building. One suggests the backdoor."

Yes, those within the restaraunt may be in danger, but her priority was the General.

Restaraunt

Assassins?

Oni had said a dead man. Armed. Were there more? Where? Were they expecting a retreat through the back door?

Wait.

Was he a target? Armed men may be waiting for others. This could be a gang hit. Or an assasination disguised as a gang hit. In any case, it was time to take some precautions.

"Oni, pay attention.", Caine's voice was whispered and urgent. "Grab the pig.",nodding at Kristy Shipp,"Gentle handling, but make it clear that if she shouts or struggles, we're eating bacon. She can be our test dummy for any ambush out the back. I will obtain details of the back entrance. When you have secured the pig, set a shadow. I want the fire alarm to sound 20 seconds after we have started to make our way to the back of the restaraunt. Oh, and check the pig for vehicle keys and a phone. We must assume our communications are monitored, and I want a clean line."

Caine walked towards the kitchen, chasing after the waitress.

"Excuse me miss! Excuse me!"

Restaraunt

Meanwhile, Kristy is oblivious to all this. Hoping to put off the moment when the bill is presented, she has buried her snout in some forms she's produced from somewhere. When she hears the thump sound, her only thought is that she's a bit too old to be frightened by things that go bump in the night. "Too bad," she thinks. "Otherwise it might have woken me up."

Assuming Oni approaches the pig's table (which seems likely), Kristy will studiously ignore her, thinking she's the waitress. If Oni comes too close to ignore, Kristy will say, "Just one more refill on the coffee, please", still without looking up.

By the way, Kristy has neither vehicle keys nor a cell phone. All she's got at the moment are various forms and some Eggplant Reserve Notes.

Restuarant

Oni gave a quick nod as Caine finished explaining his plan, and as he headed towards the kitchen, she headed towards Kristy Shipp. But nothing was simple, in fact the woman appeared to be ignoring her! However, Kristy's comment gave the Mazoku an idea.

Leaning down closer to her, Oni said in a low quiet voice, "One is sorry ma'am, but there has been an emergency within the restaurant and we need to quietly evacuate everyone out the back in an orderly fashion so that panic is not incited. Will you please come with one?"

Now hopefully Kristy will comply, afterall, she's not being asked to pay! But if not.. Oni will "accidently" let slip this aura of death and hunger that the pig will likely not be able to ignore.

Restaurant

"What? Evacuate?" Kristy says, looking up and realizing Oni isn't the waitress.

"Er, of course," she says, getting up and slapping an already filled in form 155/Y on the table. Gathering up the other forms, she starts to follow Oni (possibly before Oni starts leading her).

"Let's go," she says. "I feel a panic coming on."
