Trabia no Haiku (Accepting Requests)
      #374743 - Thu Aug 07 2003 05:16 PM

Well, I thought I'd give my Haiku writing skills a little test. Here's where you can ask me for a haiku (575) or tanka (57577).

I'm generally okay at writing haiku but it does take me a long while to produce one, so bear with me.

*Begin Sample Haiku*

Sakura no ki
Kaze ga futa toki
Hana ochiru

(The Sakura Tree, When the wind blows, The Flowers Fall)

Tanka for Sayuki Mikihashi new
      #374745 - Thu Aug 07 2003 05:20 PM

*Ahem* I thought and thought and decided that I can't come up with a better line for the bit about male and female... So I'm just going to leave you with this one...

Kawa kitsune
Fushigi na Kin Gin Ao
Taki ga suki
Jyosei dansei to onaji
Minna no tomodachi.

(The River Fox / Mysterious gold, silver, blue / Lover of waterfalls / Male or female, it's the same / Everyone's friend)

Please note that you are completely free to correct me on my grammar, or request lines to be changed.

If you require me to type it down in Japanese, I will gladly do so.

I would love it if you could give Yaba Baga a descriptive tanka... thank you.

You can decide if you want to make Japanese or not.

Tanka - Bar Gamer new
      #374779 - Thu Aug 07 2003 07:05 PM

Okay, Bar Gamer's tanka was quite difficult to write, but I have it now. I couldn't put baka in it (as per dare) but I did manage to put hentai in it.

Here goes...

Hentai ERUFU
Hageshii bugi
Mori no senshi
Tsuyoi chi no jutsu
Kare wa BAA GEEMAA.

(A perverted elf / With a violent weapon / The forest's warrior / With a powerful chi technique / This is Bar Gamer)

Tanka - Yaba Baga new
      #374795 - Thu Aug 07 2003 07:45 PM

Phew! Yaba Baga's haiku was difficult to do! But now that it's done, I'll post it. It has a clever twist of words in the first line - syllable sharing. Unfortunately, this twist is lost in the translation.

Rouba Baga
Kodomo ga daikirai
Hen na uchi
Kodai kuromiko
Rikoteki kokoro

(Old Crone Baga / Dislikes children immensely / Has a strange house. / Ancient black witch / With selfish heart)

Okay, now to explain the first line.

In "Rouba Baga", the line can mean...

"Rouba" - old crone
"Baga" - Baga

Old Crone Baga

But it can also go as...

Rou Baba ga, which means...
"Rou" - Labouring/Hard-working
"Baba" - old lady
"ga" - has

So, the poem can also be translated as...

Rou baba ga
Kodomo ga daikirai
Hen na uchi
Kodai kuromiko
Rikoteki kokoro

(Hard-Working old lady has / An immense dislike of children / and a weird house / Ancient black witch / With a selfish heart)

^^ I am smart.

This is the haiku for Sierra. Unfortunately, I don't know Sierra very well and the profile linked isn't very helpful, so this is the best I can do.

Kawaii Onna
Kashu ni naritai
Kibun no shindou
Sousakusha hakaisha
Ocha wo nomimasuka?

(Cute girl / Wants to be a singer / Has mood swings / Creator, Destroyer / Would you like to drink some green tea?)

Yes, I DO know it's incoherent. I'm very sorry~!

These Are Too Cool ! new
      #375119 - Fri Aug 08 2003 07:28 PM

It is great to see someone writing Haiku and Tanka in Japanese.

One of the interesting things about Haiku, is that they work best in the language for which they were designed.

In English, some approximation of the style is sought using rules adjusted to accommodate substantial differences in the language and the culture that goes with it.

That one for Yaba Baga is particularly clever Trabia !

This post is not meant in any way to disparage the Haiku that folks write in these Forums in English. They also are beautiful.

Andrea Koupal you are an Art Goddess

"Youchy !" by Yao Chi

Overhead tumble not by plan
Ground slams claw, much pain and then
"Youchy !, youchy !", he hollers out loud
Yao Chi’s fallen, from his cloud

Yao Chi no Tanka new
      #375171 - Fri Aug 08 2003 09:26 PM

This is the most serious Tanka I've written so far, I hope you like it, Yao Chi.

Kondousaseru
Ningen to ka, Ryuu to ka
Watashi dare?
Tsubasa wo hiroge
Kumo ue ni tobu

(Confusion. / Human or dragon / Who am I? / I spread my wings / And fly above the clouds)

This is the original of it. I don't quite know if it fits Yao Chi.

Kondousaseru
Ningen to ka, Ryuu to ka
Watashi dare?
Tsubasa wo hiroge
Kotae wo sagasu

(Confusion. / Human or dragon / Who am I? / I spread my wings / And search for an answer.)

Tanka - Kasumi Murasaki new
      #375178 - Fri Aug 08 2003 09:52 PM

I wanted something that would convey the elegance and grace of this singular character. So here's how it goes...

Kiri no himitsu
Han-you han-bun han-Ningen
Yuubi bushido
Murasaki no jyundo
Bijin na samurai

(Secret of Mists / Half-demon, halfway, half-human / Graceful follower of the Way of the Sword / Purity of the Wistaria / Beautiful Samurai)

I ran it through the Babel Fish translator to see what would happen and it mangled the whole thing!

Here's what I got...

Purity beauty of secret semi- 妖 half semi- human elegant degree of warrior purple of fog samurai.

;_; *Cries*

Haiku - Libra new
      #375195 - Fri Aug 08 2003 10:09 PM

This one is short, because I don't know much about the character and the profile wasn't TOO helpful. However...

Chairo hane
Kioku nakunatta
GUURIFIN senshi

(Brown feathers / Missing Memories / A Griffin Warrior)

WOW Trabia, that is a beautiful Tanka.

In a few words it says a whole lot.

And now it is part of a signature.
