Dry Docked (Open Intro)
      #638929 - Mon Nov 03 2008 05:00 PM

Outside the bright lights of Anycity, it is a dark and quiet night. There are no clouds overhead, although only the paleness of the moon and blinking of aircraft is visible in the sky, due to the light pollution from the nearby city and the bright streetlamps from the many highways that flow traffic in and out of the city.

Indeed the highways of Anycity may be a perfect place to witness the next event. There is a blue crackle of electricity in the air, followed by quite a flash in the sky. After that, what is left is a bit too dark to see, at least after all that intense brightness in the dark night. Although there is certainly some shape out there, and that may be surprising, considering it can be seen from the elevated roadway.

OOC: Well, I haven't done an intro post in years, so here's hoping.

Here Ame is, walking around AnyCity in the middle of the freaking night, jug of sake swinging loosely from a string over her shoulder, singing absolutely terrible drunk songs, and suddenly all [censored] breaks loose. First it was a small crackle in the area, to which Ame stops from her trapse and scratches her head. "Huh... rain." She mutters bewilderdly. After that there's the bright freaking flash of light, "The [censored]?" Ame covers her eyes. Darkness proceeds.

When the woman's eyes recover, she sees darkness - that sorta large darkness like some wall in her way. Course, last she knew it, she didn't walk anywhere near any walls. And in this drunken state, it's not like the woman feels too concerned about some large object appearing infront of her after a large burst of light and flicker of electricity. In this nightmare, anything could happen as far as Amethyst's concerned.

She turns around, glances at the area behind her. No, something was definitely amiss here. Turning back, Ame sets down her jug of rice wine and takes her sword - sheath and all - out of her sash. She pokes the 'wall' (which in this case is probably Durojai'ay) with the end of her sheath. "[censored] is this?"

(Ame is on the ground, not on the highway. She hasn't had the best time with fast moving vehicles in the past and so tends to stay away from direct contact with places where cars drive.)

Indeed, anything can and will happen in this place. The obstacle Ame pokes with her sheathed sword with seems rather solid, although it does give somewhat to the prodding. The action is perhaps somewhat akin to jabbing a thick side of raw beef with a spoon.

For a few moments after Ame's last expletive, nothing happens. The warrior werewolf might find this to be a bit of a relief... at least until there comes a low, unearthly moan. It seems to be coming from nearby, even slightly shaking the ground she stands upon.

Then suddenly... Ame may no longer find herself to be upon the ground. Whatever was in front of her has started thrashing violently, and some slick, fleshy appendage slams into her from her abdomen to her face. From there, whatever was in her way keeps convulsing, and even cars out on the highway might be able to feel some tremors from the great shaking nearby.

After a minute or so things finally settle down, although that is one harrowing minute for anyone nearby, as they have to gain footing and get out of the way of the thrashing. There is another low moan, but it is followed what seems like a great gasping of breath, from something inconceivably large.

Jab, Jab... Jab... Poke. Prod... No, this wasn't doing much ~ thought Ame as she finally put her sword away. Whatever this wall was, it wasn't made of wall material. Wall material, after all, chipped and flaked and gave at least some sort of better resistance than this one. This wall was way too slick and fatty. She was going to shrug it off with some sort of drunken decision and move off to better things, but then all [censored] broke loose.

First off, the wall decided to move - bloody well odd for a wall to do and all. Eh, who cares? It's Ame's inebriated visionary wall right now, it can do what it -

The woman is suddenly whale-smacked and launched a ways by the object she previously poked. Her wall has gone up in stature to 'Threatening Wall of Doom'. As she flew, she swore off all surprised sorts of obscenities. Let's hope no cars on that highway up there had nuns. "[censored] [censored] [censored] 'edy [censored] 'odulative [censored]!" When she hit the ground, however, all she could manage was a belated, "... Ouch." Before, miraculously, getting back up. Remember those newspaper articles where the drunk driver was the one to survive the horrible head on collision with a bus? Yeah, That's just about how Ame's story goes - except getting smacked by a 100+ foot sea monster just about beats it in entertainment values.

(Let's assume for the moment that Ame took her anti-werewolf poison leaves and, therefore, is still human during this time. I was going to make this a 'before werewolf' part of her entirety, but hey, forgot to put that in my first post, so it's too late now. So yeah. That about fixes any confusions that might have happened.)

(On the by, where is everyone else? You'd think at least a jerk would've come in to announce that you were new to the dream and to follow them to the welcome center by now. Damn Enter is quiet lately.)

(( I only meant 'werewolf' as Ame has that curse upon her person, not that she is in that form. Sorry if that caused some confusion! As for where everyone else is... no clue. That's why this was going slower, to let people enter. I'll try to step up the pace now. ))

Aside from expressing her frustration, Ame's cursing does actually help another person in this situation. The gasping eventually slows, and if Ame is able to receive them, she will feel a telepathic murmur. Nothing actually intelligible being said, just a rumble on the edge of her mind.

If that and her pain doesn't distract her too much, she might feel a rush of wind as the giant creature turns to face her. Or as much as he can face the woman. He has to stay rather far away just to see her head on. Still, the effect of getting stared down a 25 foot wide muzzle might not put Amethyst at ease.

"Someone ugly talk." Rawna disgustedly announces to the night sky. Of course, the night sky has been threatening to get ugly as well. That is, if a storm is about to roll in, as Rawna predicts from the earlier crack of electricity.

The scrawy, blue-haired girl of the wild soon found the source of the vulgarities. It was a drunkard, as she expected. However, she didn't expect a wall of strange flesh jigging before her.

"What that?" Her eyes squinted as she focused at this new discovery.

What with her new friend, the concussion, Ame is too busy drowning in her foul language to notice Rawna yet. When she's finished her disputed useage of vowels, and her eyes clear... And her mental state sobers a bit by now - what with being thwacked to next year... She finally looks up to see what hit her. From here everything goes to [censored].

Okay, first is the mental telepathy hum. The wanted woman is not quite use to this sort of intrusion on her brain and decides it's from giving her head a new landmark upon the landing. Yeah, that explains that away.

It was when the squishy wall she previously accosted decided to turn around that Amethyst's whole world decided to take a dive down the toilet. Seeing the teeth and full, elongated, ugly muzzle of this monster immediately snaps the woman out of any other thoughts she may have been experiencing. With a speed like none other, Ame unsheathes her sword and points it at the pointy teeth, unbeknownst to how ridiculous this may look to anyone watching. It's not like Ame's a superhero or anything, and this is definitely not a video game.

(It's okay on the werewolf misunderstanding. I wanted to make sure we cleared that up before anyone got confused. On the by, when I read your profile I, for some reason, though 'prehistoric whale-like head'. If I'm wrong and it's more like a Hellbender head, give me a headsup.)

"Big lizard!?" The wild child gasped. It's at this point where Ame drew her weapon and pointed it at the grinning muzzle of the creature before them. To Rawna, it kind of looked like a field rat with a twig versus a hungry jaguar.

"Drunk warrior with ugly words brave." Rawna readied her own knife, though she fest no malice in the air, just drunken fear.

A little silver entity, amorphous in shape appeared on the girl's shoulder. It's beady eyes, the only thing distinguishable about it, watched on. Rawna, while aware of its presence, ignored it completely.

Well, the two people with weapons are a bit of a surprise. The big critter blinks, almost looking confused. He'd furrow his brow if he could.

Then his demeanor changes. Unfortunately he can't frown, but he certainly takes a stance to look even more imposing. He stands up straighter, and tilt his head to look straight down at the two people brandishing blades in his face. Then those who are susceptible will hear an actual comprehensible telepathic message.

~You! You...~ the accusation starts off strongly enough, but then the giant creature just ends up confused. He turns his massive head from side to side, surveying his new surroundings.

~Where have you taken me?~

(( For whatever reason I find that image very amusing, Amethyst. So thank you for it! It certainly makes me feel more welcome. I'll be sending you a PM when I get the chance. ))

The child peered at the giant creature, searching for emotion. With her knife still out, she felt more to fear from the drunkard than this one.

Rawna scrunched together her eyebrows in contemplation. After a moment, she looked at the skies that she had previously guessed would have been storming by now. She then sheathed her knife and looked to the giant creature. The polymorphic little being on her shoulder shuffled with harmonic vibrations as if agreeing with whatever Rawna's thoughts have concluded.

"Big lizard that scare ugly worded drunk! You come from bright sky fire? You a... 'new avatar'?"

Rawna had pronounced the last two words slowly. Only recently has she heard the term, and until now had never uttered it.

The word 'new' and 'avatar' shot Ame out of her grand confusion at this monster advancing its large head upon her. A vein broke out on her forehead. See, Ame's dealt with the 'Hi, are you new? Welcome to the Dream' types before. A few months ago she stepped through a magic doorway to get to another part of the world and this cat person did that to her out of nowhere - which was not the first time. What's even more rediculous is that she was here for years now when it last transpired. What, is 'Are you a new avatar' a greeting in this nightmare? Or do people randomly shoot that as a hit or miss moment on a regular basis? Maybe there's something about this large monstrosity they're dealing with that screams tourist. Ame doesn't know, doesn't care, and doesn't want to deal with it.

Either way, Amethyst really hates it and now she's turning her sword on the girl. "What about this monster looks new to you, kid?"

Oh, right, before all this mess, the oversized newt asked her a question. She glared at the girl, then turned back towards it - but not before telling the girl, "Stay there, you're next."

"What, are you drunk?" the woman bawks at Durojai. "How in the world could I take you anywhere? What, you expect that I hauled you over my shoulder one night or something? ... Now apologize for hitting me!" Ame concludes, after slowly concluding that this monster what what indeed sent her into the sky way back there.

The strongest feeling Rawna might get from the giant creature is confusion, along with fear... and what appears to be worry about someone else. Indeed the critter flicks his eyes around the ground as if looking for someone.

His response to Rawna probably comes across as how any newbie to this world would sound.

~What? A new... what? I don't think I'm a new anything at my age...

Jai's thought trails off as he has to deal with the 'ugly talking drunk'. All he can do is blink in confusion at her. He might be afraid of her if she wasn't so tiny to him. That temper of hers seems dangerous.

~Um... I'm sorry.~ That sounds sincere, but almost like a question. His next question makes him seem genuinely concerned though. ~Are you all right? I didn't mean to hurt you...~

With that, the giant lowers his head and turns a huge red-orange eye to Ame so he can get a closer look at any injuries she might have. He doesn't get too close though, for fear that she might shove that sword into his face.

Was that a challenge? Rawna narrowed her eyes on Amethyst, her hand on the handle of the recently sheathed knife.

"What ugly-worded drunk do?"

The wild child watched as the big lizard thing emanated confusion at the situation, and sorrow for hitting the drunkard.

The drunkard. What kind of human was she anyway? To show such disrespect. To add confusion to the confused. To anger at shadows. If she had a puppy, she would probably kick it. Amethyst certainly wasn't polling Rawna's favor.

The mercuric little being on Rawna's shoulder disappeared. Rawna showed no concern in that.

Correction: If Ame was a puppy, she'd probably be kicked ;) Personally, kicking puppies is subject to how bad times are: If the world is in a state is disrepair or chaos, you will see puppies getting kicked. There is no connection between the problem and the puppies; the puppies do not cause the world to be in a state of chaos. It's just how things work. Usually the one in fault of the state of the world is the cats. ~ (loose interpretation from author Steven Erikson) Therefore, Ame would not kick a puppy if she saw it, unless in some contrast the Napping Cat brought Duroj into this world to destroy or cause chaos to it.

Upon the monster's confused and apologettic... Apology. Ame is first surprised, the confounded. This thing is a 3 story monster wall of aquatic blubber. Usually if she gets smacked around by something like it, it would not be in the right mind to apologise and a fight would initiate. Cue the dramatic motions, flaring guitar music, and sword swiping.

Instead, in her drunken state, Amethyst holds back. Rubbing the back of her head in a confused, drunken state. Her sword lowers. "Uh... Okay. No, I'm okay I think. Nothing broken, really. Minor concussion is -

HEY!" She roars at the girl, "Ugly Worded!? are you picking a fight with me!?"

The giant creature looks relieved, if only for a moment, as Ame says she is okay. The fight starting to break out just puts him ill at ease though. There is quite an audible gulp from Jai, followed by an odd internal rumbling, as he tries to intervene in the conversation.

~Um... ladies? I don't want anyone else to get hurt. Just... erm...~

He looks at the busy highway again, and then to the little people below him. Things do seem familiar here, but yet not. At least people swinging around weapons certainly doesn't fit the usual.

~...What is going on? Do you know where I am?~

~You are here, and not wherever you were~.

It is a message Durojai'ay heard without hearing.

Even the lest sensitive of creatures may feel a reassuring force nearby. It sweeps the area like the lull of a mother showing affection to her child. Both Amethyst (even intoxicated as she may be) and Rawna may feel any tension melt away, receding like a crashed wave is pulled back into the sea. There is no reason for anger, paranoia, fear, or hate.

~Forgive my cryptic logic, friend, but it is the most honest answer I have~. ~This place, lost in the ebb of existence, is only known as the Napping Cat's Dream~. ~It is a place of chaos and balance, real and unreal... it is a place where only one could once imagine... it is the pure incarnation of thought itself~.

From out of the air, before Durojai'ay, stepped out a misted green merman. Multicolored spheres were orbiting him like he were the center of gravity. He was beautiful and serene.

"~Forgive my intrusion as well~," the merman spoke. "~I am Circeil, and I am pleased to usher you in this, your new begining in the Dream~."

(What happened to Rawna? I loved that character.)

(Also, I disapprove of Amethyst suddenly having her emotions controlled via a 'character introduction spell' by anyone but the gm or via the gm's acceptance. After all, Ame would clearly not be Ame if she wasn't angry or pissed at everything on two feet.)

The angered, now marginally sobering woman remained angered and irked at Rawna and her insults right up until someone flooded the area with what was akin to tranquilizer gas. You know, that feeling you get while at the dentist before being drilled on. The sensation was perplexing enough to distract Amethyst from attacking the little girl... Right until she saw who decided to show up: some green, finny bastard with a handful of floating balls. There were only two other people she's met on the dream who possessed the ability to make balls float, a tiger named Trax (my very first thread) who's drifting orbs were made of chocolate, and yet another tiger named of all things WhiteTiger, who was helping her practice with floating steel orbs. This guy who now stood between her and the large ton of fleshy mass with teeth was obviously not a tiger. And he was also more obviously a man.

Man Ame hated men.

This sparked her anger again, and that got even more enhanced when he started talking about TheNightmare and how this large creature they were talking to was somehow new. Seriously, people, how do you know? Even looking perplexed and confused, the creature could have easily come from Another part of TheNightmare. It's like walking up to someone you believe is a tourist in Hawaii and going, 'Hi! Are you new? Welcome to Earth!' But don't worry, this hostility is only contained to Ame.

Amethyst paused to consider her options: Kill Cerceil and Rawna, and maybe Duroj (then presumably eat him afterwards after a good grilling), flee and consider her options, or get blunt and down to earth with the questions Durojai asked.

"That's Anycity." Ame barked out after Cerceil immediately made his intro, probably almost cutting him off. She pointed at the city behind her. "That" She now pointed at the highway. "Is a bridge full of magical carriages that move without horses." Now she pointed at Rawna, then the merman guy infront of her. "And I have no idea who these [censored]'ers are."

Strange feel enter body. Relax eye, relax muscle. Still hate drunk though.

Green avatar appear. Jump back to keep distance. Hand on knife.

Ugly-worded drunk speak. She point to Anycity.
