Introduction

A bright flash of light that leaves a purple haze on the retina for several seconds is seen. When the purple haze has cleared, Grendel can be seen standing by himself. He is a large, brown anthro grizzly bear, wearing green ceramic composite battle armor. The armor is painted with a faded red cross on the chest and back, and pockmarked with blackend dents. Grendel is holding a large-caliber automatic pistol before him, apparently aiming at nothing. The slide is locked back, indicating there is no longer any ammunition in the weapon. The look on his face is one of fierce desperation, which quickly turns to confusion. He slowly lowers the pistol and ejects the clip, and quickly inserts a new one. Thumbing the action, the slide *clanks* forward, ready to fire. He tenatively puts the gun in a holster hanging from his right hip. Unsure of his surroundings, Grendel looks around, wide-eyed. "Where in the name of Spirit am I?" he asks, with a harsh, growling voice.

"That's something I've actually still gotta figure out..."::A ferret lands on the ground from a branch of a tree, standing at a good 4 feet. He's got a dagger strapped to one side of his belt and a pouch to the other. His clothing is composed of a shirt and pants of tan leather:: "What's that thing you got there?" ::Points to the gun::

"Oh, good, a ferret. What unit are you with, Scout? Do you know where the enemy has retreated to?"*blinks, confused* "This is the standard sidearm in this army...Federal Munitions Mountain Eagle, .50AE Automatic Pistol, M2123. You should know that..." "And why are you out of uniform?"

::Chuckles and looks up at the bear::"I may have been a scout before... but I'm afraid I'm not a part of your army. I'm not in uniform because... well... there's no war and I'm not part of any sides." ::He smiles and gives a perfect military salute to the newcomer, even clicking his feet together and stiffening his body into a straight line out of respect. Afterwards, he sets himself "at ease", leaning up against the tree he jumped from:: "Welcome to the Napping Cat's Dream. Whatever war you just came from is back the other way... I don't know how you're going to get back there, though. I haven't found a way back yet. And what's a Mountain Eagle whatchamacallit?"

"Napping Cat's Dream?"*looks around slowly, seeming more confused* "I thought the army had conscripted all of the ferrets as Scouts." *shrugs* Well, wherever I am, I'm glad to be here. I was about to be overrun by the enemy. Most of my squad was killed, and they just kept coming..." *Draws the pistol, ejects the clip, actions the loaded round into the air, catching it deftly. Displays the weapon so Rein Sharper can see it* It's a pistol, a gun. It's a weapon. You hold it like this, and pull the trigger. That sets off a charge that pushes the bullet out of the barrel, towards the target. I'd show you how it works, but I'm low on ammo." *reloads the weapon, replaces it in his holster*

"That's one crazy lookin' crossbow..."::Rein observes the gun but doesn't touch it, as it might have some sort of security feature or something. He looks at the bear as he explains about his last whereabouts:: "Well, consider yourself safe for the time being... anything can happen here. I have a feeling that the rest of your group won't be as lucky as you, though... My name's Rein. Rein Sharper." ::He holds his hand out, still seeming a little wary about the gun at the bear's side but giving off a firm handshake::

"I fear as much. They were good men. War is hell"*takes the ferret's hand and shakes it as gently as he can* "Well met, Rein Sharper. I'm Sgt. Grendel ThreeStarsShining. It's a pleasure to meet you." *notices Rein's discomfort with the weapon" "Don't worry about that, my friend. I hate using it. You're safer around me than by yourself, I'd wager."

OOC: Urgh... that's the last time I try to do a name change for sake of my RP... I'll just use unregistered characters.IC: "Yes, I suppose so... you know, it's strange. I figured the entire dream would have flocked over here to meet you. Especially Mist or Rhiann... they almost seem like the moderators of the place." ::Scratches at his chest through his shirt:: "Oh well. Welcome to the dream, again. I'd show ya around but it's really a lot more fun exploring... nothing really bad happens when you go looking for a place to stay, I've found. There are a few characters to watch out for though... all I can say is that you'll know them when you see them."

Scourgling walks into the clearing, a look of suprise on 'is face..."Hmm... another newcomer..." Scourgling notices the military uniform, ans remarks to himself quietly 'On earth it seems to be more common to have generals unarmed and at home... oh, well... his culture's different, i geuss...' Scourgling offers his hand for a hearty handshake... "Welcome to the dream, friend!"

"Yeah yeah, so we're a little late on the flocking thing." Khain apears suddenly, dangling from a branch by his knees, quirking a slight smile at the huge grisly. "Nice gun. Is it as nice as mine?" He pulls out one of the odd looking energy pistols and spins it around one finger.

*raises an eyebrow*"Uh, I doubt it. This is just a standard, steel-frame short blowback action automatic pistol. A slugthrower. What is that, some kind of laser? I didn't know they'd perfected the tech that well. I'll have to see if we can get some of those, if I ever get back."

A male human, sharply dressed, enters the clearing. “My, my,” he says with a voice as slick as polished silver. “Yet another joins the field of play. A warrior… no, a military man no less. I’ve heard tell of another military man who is waging a war elsewhere. This realm might need a good tactician, should his endeavors bring him back here. Then again, I could use a good strategist for my… dealings here.”The man offers his hand to the bear. “I am called Nachahmer, but claim no name for my self. I believe that I overheard your name to be Grendel. Is that correct?”

*Grendel growls quietly in his throat until NM is out of sight*"What in Spirit's name was THAT? I can't place it, but something was *WRONG* with it...it was bad somehow. It looked human, but it didn't smell like it." *Grendel shudders, like shaking off a bad dream*

"He's one of the people I warned you about... not friendly."::Watches Nach walk away:: "Let's just hope you never have to deal with him again... he's serious about everything he speaks of. I would watch my back if you start to feel a chill in the area. Odds are he'll be there watching you... You said you were low on ammo, right?" ::Quickly jumps up into the tree and slices off a thick branch and starts carving it with his dagger. Within just a minute, he's got a finely shaped longbow (for Rein's size, that's about right). Then he attaches a string to it, making sure it's tightly strung. He takes another branch (smaller) and slices that off as well, making a nice set of ten arrows. He then walks up to Grendel and hands him the weapon and ammo:: "Maybe you should learn to use a new weapon... because I've never seen ammo like you have there around here. Besides, if it makes a lot of noise, odds are you'll attract 'his' attention again."

lachesis regards the newcomer over her handiwork. ah, there you are. right on time. of course, i should expect that of you. she gives him an approving nod, and then is gone. on the ground instead lies a small cardboard box, not much bigger than a deck of playing cards. everyone gathered all look at Grendel expectantly, while he looks from face to face, hoping for a clue. when no one else makes any moves, he walks over to the box and picks it up. it's reasonably heavy for its size, and rattles in a manner that brings his head up in surprise. he opens it eagerly, to find... a dozen and a half bullets. lachesis
