Dinadan Brookgreen
Dinadan in a nutshell (aka Please Don't Make Me Read All This Crap):
Dinadan is an otter with little regard to morals, a moderately warped sense of humor, and an extraordinary amount of power at his fingertips. This powerful magician specializes in the area of Space Magic, and can bend physics to his whim, teleport at will, and create objects out of nowhere. Whether as a result of his incredible power or just as a general personality defect, this otter tends to be rude, arrogant, immature, and prone to finding delight in the suffering of others.
He is served by a guardian spirit by the name of Quincy, a fiery familiar who communicates through sending mental pictures, when at all. Capable of shapeshifting, blowing fireballs, and finding other ways to make life extremely difficult for those who threaten his charge, Quincy is perhaps even more deadly than the otter.
Together, the two of them are quite capable of devastating entire lands, and are ridiculously difficult to put down. Dinadan wears his "uber" tag with pride. Be warned.

A brief and character revealing answer to the question, "What is your ambition?": Use this place as long as I can to further my needs... and when the time comes, turn around and walk away with no regrets.

----
Abilities/Skills:
Nonmagical:
Physical: Swimming, tumbling, and if absolutely necessary, can sprint with something resembling speed. Above average strength relative to a human, and a bit better with fists and teeth than some might expect.
Mental: Working knowledge of architecture, physics, user-friendly electronics, psychology, and a number of other random subjects. Large knowledge of magic, how it works on various worlds, and its destructive potential. Heavily traveled throughout various planes. Efficient problem-solver, highly imaginative, particularly with insults.
Magical: Personal (These are spells that Dinadan knows and fuels with his own power.)
Speed Dialing Power Level: Medium Range: Self Description: This spell allows Dinadan to link his other spells to gestures, such as a snap of the fingers or a wave of the hand. This allows him to speed-cast otherwise lengthy spells in tight situation, and also has the added benefit of allowing him to use magic in situations where he can't speak. Spells commonly linked via Speed-Dialing are noted below with a * , along with the relevant gesture.
Excercise Power Level: Low Range: Self Description: This spell is how Dinadan maintains his body, despite a fondness for baked goods and a loathing for physical labor. Excercise gives Dinadan all the benefits of a full workout, without any of that nasty soreness, sweat, or fatigue.
Tinkering Power Level: Medium Range: Touch Description: Allows Dinadan to examine, alter, and add enchantments onto an artifact, assuming that there are no safeguards to get around. Dinadan is only capable of minor enchantments on his own in the field (making things glow in the dark, slight boosts to speed and strength,) but with an item of signifigant power or some other guide close at hand (such as the Altar of the Soulstealer,) he is capable of producing some moderately nasty enchantments (sympathetic magics, pain enhancers, mystic blinding.)
Cut the Link to the Master Power Level: Medium Range: Line of sight Description: Essentially an improved banishing spell, Cut the Link to the Master returns a summoned being to its plane of birth, or if the being is native, to its place of birth.
Revert Power Level: Medium Range: Line of sight Description: Changes a magically or otherwise altered object back to its natural state, if the target is willing.
Dimensional Anchor Power Level: High Range: Touch Description: Prevents an object from being translocated due to unwanted effects. Dinadan and Quincy will both usually have this spell pre-cast on them before entering any potentially hostile situation.
Magical: Space-based (All Space-based Magics draw off the Will of the Archmage for their power. If Dinadan's link to the Will is cut, these spells will either be vastly reduced in power or completely impossible to cast.)
*From Thin Air Power Level: High Range: 50 yards Speed Dialing Link: Snap of the fingers Description: Creates an item or a number of items (no larger in volume than a cargo trailer on an 18 wheeler, and no heavier than one fully loaded,) out of nothing. There are a number of limitations on the materials that can be created by this spell, some examples listed below, but in general, Dinadan is limited by his understanding of how things work and the complexity of certain items. This spell serves as one of Dinadan's primary attacks in combat situations, as well as an extremely helpful aid in annoying the hell out of people. Can produce: Organic Substances Water Non-gold, silver, and platinum metals Stones of various sorts Various simple chemicals Various simple electronic devices Car batteries Cannot produce: Gold, Silver, or Platinum Life Fully-functioning living bodies Fully-functioning brains Edible food Genetically-accurate clones Computers and other complicated machinery
*Gravity is a Toy Power Level: Very High Range: 50 yards or Line of Sight, whichever is greater. Speed Dialing Link: Various, including a wave of the hand, pointing, a crushing motion, and a flick of the wrist. Description: Allows Dinadan to manipulate the unseen forces that exist between objects in the real world, or to create entirely new forces of his own. He mainly uses this to fly around at will, though he's fine-tuned the use of this ability to the point where he can use it much like telekinesis on other objects, or turn forces in on an object to crush it outright. He's also capable of using this as a brute force blast, though the spell seems to lose much of its effectiveness in this way... averaging about half a ton of force at best to a concentrated area, which really isn't all that spectacular compared to some of the other magicians and psychics running around the Dream. Dinadan will almost always have this spell cast on him so that he can float around at will.
*Blink Power Level: High Range: Line of Sight Speed Dialing Link: Blink twice. Description: Teleports Dinadan (and another object he's touching, no larger than twice his size, if he chooses) to another spot within sight.
Gateway Power Level: Whoa. Range: To open, one end must be Line of Sight, and the caster must have a general idea of where the other end is. Resizing and closing may be done from any distance, even across worlds. Description: Opens a portal (a two dimensional circle) between any two locations. This spell, unlike Dinadan's other spells, takes a certain amount of time to accomplish, an intradimensional portal taking ten minutes to accomplish, an interdimensional portal taking a full half hour of concentration (though the spells can be halted and continued if need be.) Once the portal is completed, Dinadan may alter the size of the portal at will, or close it outright with a quick command. Dinadan is capable of a one-way variation on the spell, and can generate some basic shielding on either side. As much as he'd love to, this spell is just too complicated for the otter to link via Speed Dialing.
*Distortion Field Power Level: Very High Range: About ten meters. Speed Dialing Link: Making a gesture with both paws, as if pulling something apart. Description: A modification of his Gateway spell, Distortion Field creates a pair of magical disks in the air. Anything that passes through either disc will come out on the other end... in a fashion. The discs take in matter at the molecular level, and transport it to a random position on the other end of the field. Essentially, the effect is to generate a high-powered magical shredder. Generally, the diameter of the discs are only about a meter at most, though with concentration and a bit of time, Dinadan can widen the size to about double, possibly more with further training or amplification.
Find the Way Home Power Level: Medium Range: Touch Description: Another ritual spell that takes some time to cast, but once cast properly and assuming no interference, reveals the location of an object's place of origin to Dinadan, to the degree that he can establish a portal to that world.
----
Special Effects:
Will of the Archmage: Years ago, a young Dinadan came in contact with a dying archmage, who passed his soul onto the otter in an attempt to both preserve his knowledge, and to escape his fate. The archmage's spirit lives on inside of Dinadan, and causes the following effects:
- Dinadan is able to draw off the Will for use of Space Magic.
- Both Dinadan and Quincy can consult through private mental channels with the Will.
- Dinadan registers as having multiple souls to those with the means to detect such things.
- Dinadan is capable of surrendering control of his body temporarily to the Will. The Archmage is a much more capable magician than Dinadan, and has much greater power with Space Magic, but it is unknown just how long he can make the possession last, and the otter hates losing control over his body, to the point where he'd rather be shot.
Quincy Link: See Quincy for details.
----
Weaknesses:
Ego: This otter is arrogant beyond words. He's likely to be diverted by any attack on his greatness, however misguided, childish, or hypocritical. Snap: Dinadan has a rather short temper, which can go off for little to no reason under the right (wrong) circumstances. This can be a bit of a setback in particularly tense situations. Bad Rep: For some reason (see above weaknesses) Dinadan just doesn't have all that many friends. In a conflict between Dinadan and another avatar, you can usually count on everyone taking his opponent's side. Dinadan has been known to draw gunfire upon setting foot in a room. Magic Dependancy: Most, if not all of Dinadan's power is rooted in magic. An antimagic field of any sort has a tendency to seriously ruin his day, usually starting by bringing him down to the ground at high speed. He carries a handgun to compensate for this somewhat, but under antimagic, he's little more than a thug.

Key Accessories:
Bottle of 307 Ale Power: Medium Description: Highly (highly, highly) alcoholic beverage. Used as Quincy fuel in dire situations. Source: Doktor Kerensky
Teapot Power: High Description: Teapot decorated with a Val de Loire pattern, capable of trapping any one person who takes a drink of any liquid poured from the pot. Warranty void on non-mortals. Source: ANNAMMU's Auction.
Cambot Power: Varies on the wielder's imagination. Description: Small, floating camera capable of overriding all local frequencies and broadcasting a transmission for up to 60 minutes. One use. Source: Rei of Chaosity, Inc.
Jar of Oscurro Power: Low Description: Powdered remnants of a slain shadow-beast. The same substance that the avatar Dark is composed of. Source: Gained with the assistance of Dark.
Minor Voodoo Doll Power: None (Busted) Description: An item forged on the Altar of the Soulstealer, after time spent studying the avatar known as The Voodoo Doll. Formerly capable of causing various horrible effects on anyone it was pointed at, the doll is now busted after Dinadan got a bit too enthusiastic with its use. He's currently trying to fix it. Source: Forged with help from The Voodoo Doll.
Altar of P't'at'uk the Soulstealer Power: Ye gods! (Note: does not appear in other peoples' threads.) Description: Not an item that Dinadan carries around with him (as a matter of fact, it sits behind about fifteen different varieties of protective circle in a room in the Tower.) This evil item is capable of performing various unpleasant tricks with peoples' souls. Now if only Dinadan knew how to use its full power without getting relocated into the body of a five year-old girl. Source: Stolen off of a random magic-endowed world.
Colt .45 Power: Medium Description: Big frigging handgun, kept in a holster on Dinadan's ankle. Not that he can aim the thing properly, but it's always good to have something just in case... Source: Stolen off a random world with modern-era technology.
Holy Jade Pieces Power: Medium Description: Not an item Dinadan always carries around, as they interfere with his magic. Specifically, when he carries them, he is unable to summon up blood, bone, and flesh with From Thin Air. In the hands of any other bearer, the jade will interfere with shadow magics, in addition to any type of magic which might be considered particularly unholy. In return, the tokens provide a considerable amount of protection from unholy and shadow magics, and will burn demonic (or sufficiently evil) entities on contact.
Various and Sundry Useless Magical Artifacts Power: Low, low, low... Description: Items of no real power that Dinadan has stolen, collected, or made over his travels. Examples include silver shield enchanted to be always shiny, a wand that trails silver sparks when waved in the air, a candle that never burns down and has a blue flame. Source: Various.
The Tower of Escher Power: Whoa. / None (busted) Description: Dinadan's floating fortress and home, a ten story tall monolith of stone and magic. The inside of the building is a direct defiance of common physics, with stairs running up, down, and sideways all throughout the building. Inside, it's possible to walk on any surface you think you can walk on... of course, it's also possible to fall ten stories and end up nothing more than a grease stain on the floor. The Tower is reinforced throughout with about a thousand different gravity spells, is capable of being summoned across dimensions by its master, and holds a number of very unpleasant automated defenses that can be activated under certain conditions. (Note: Destroyed in PUNISHMENT, may or may not be available in other threads due to the Dream's Temporal Uncertainty Principle. In threads where the Tower has been destroyed, Dinadan may or may not have completed his new home, Ben Oranda.) Source: Built under the guidance of the Archmage.
----
Description of Personality:
Dinadan is a self-proclaimed rat bastard. He takes great delight in the misfortune of others, particularly if he's caused the misfortune himself, and has no problem whatsoever if people happen to die while he's having his fun. The otter finds it particularly entertaining to harass someone to the point of violence (which rarely works, due to his talents) or fleeing the scene.
The otter has a rather large ego (and feels that he's powerful enough to deserve one.) As a consequence, he's likely to lash out at people who seem more arrogant than he is, and can make entire rooms roll their eyes with his announcements of how great he is.
In his quieter moments (ie, whenever he's tired for the moment of bugging people or is just strained for new ideas,) he doesn't mind a little bit of light, non-hostile conversation. If you can hit the right buttons when he's in one of these moods, you might even be able to get him to help you with something. Don't hold your breath, though.
----
Brief History:
Dinadan hails from a world of medieval technology. Orphaned at a young age, and taken in by a thoroughly martial order, the scrawny young otter grew up miserable next to his larger, stronger playmates.
His life changed abruptly when he came into contact with the Archmage. Taken along to watch the brutal slaughter of a magical order, and the destruction of their tower, Dinadan slipped away and found the near-dead wizard who was the order's head. One quick transfer of power later, and Dinadan left his homeworld for good, seeking adventure, freedom, and power.
Dinadan has been on the road for almost eight years, now. Along the way, he acquired Quincy, his guardian spirit, from the goddess Jin'rea in exchange for a heavily-enchanted sword, and built a new version of the magical Tower of Escher from the Archmage's memory.
Since arriving in the Dream, Dinadan has collected a bit of power, unleashed horrors upon the populace, made quite a few acquintances and a whole mess of enemies, bought a custom afterlife, and for some reason has attracted the attention of multiple forces that wish to improve him for the better.
They'll have their work cut out for them.

Quincy
Basic Stats
Age: Unknown Gender: Male (commonly referred to as "he," anyway.) Species/Race: Animated soul, Fire aspect. Height: Varies, commonly about half a foot high, three feet in length (lizard form.) Build: Varies, commonly iguana-like. Coloration: Red, though yellow or white when charged up. Varies between scales, skin, feathers, and flames. Eye Color: Black, pupiless. Notable Marks: Has various black marks over his body, that shift with every shapechange.
Occupation / Class: Dinadan's personal guardian. Poor guy. Affiliations: Dinadan, and Dinadan only.
----
Quincy is Dinadan's guardian spirit, and is rarely far from the otter. Generally taking the form of an iguana-sized salamander with arcane black tattoos all over his body, Quincy is quite possibly the only thing that's kept Dinadan alive for the past four years. At the very least, Quincy shows much better judgement than his otter counterpart. Quincy has a fondness for alcohol, a very cruel imagination, and a strange, unwavering devotion towards Dinadan... even if the otter does only have two brain cells to rub together. It's been hinted that Quincy is much more than a simple spirit.
Quincy is in fact a part of Dinadan's soul... his anger, emotion, and will to live... empowered, animated, and charged by the fire goddess Jin'rea to protect the otter.
----
Abilities:
General Physical: Immune to toxins and most biological effects, highly resistant to drunkeness, immune to fire effects. Strength varies with form chosen.
Pictoral Telepathy Power: Low Range: 100 yard radius, or as long as there's no unbridged dimensional gap between him and Dinadan. Description: Quincy communicates not through words like other species, but projects images into the minds of recipients. This can be very disconcerting if Quincy chooses certain images, especially if he decides to start sending rapid-fire. Halfway-decent mental shielding will prevent this effect from connecting with a target that isn't Dinadan.
Mind Flame Power: Medium Range: Must have mental link with the target. Description: Gives the target a feeling as though their brain is on fire while the link is established. As neither Dinadan nor Quincy have a means of establishing a long-term psionic link with anyone, and as it takes Quincy about 30 seconds to track and send the flame down the link, this spell is only good as a defense against extended mental intrusions.
Shapeshifting Power: Medium, can get up to High with adequate charging Range: Self Description: Quincy can change forms freely and at will, usually taking the form of a lizard or dragon, though occasionally taking the form of firebird. He will rarely, if ever, take a two-legged shape, due to personal tastes.
Sink In Power: Low Range: Touch Description: Quincy can take the form of a marking on someone's body. In this state, Quincy retains his consciousness, but is not able to use his Firebreathing ability to its usual effect. Quincy's host gains a good deal of fire protection while Quincy uses Sink In, and can make use of added perception, as Quincy watches for and relays important information through his senses.
Firebreathing Power: Medium, can reach High or Very High with adequate charging Range: Varies with charging, from shotgun range to artillery range. Description: In any of his forms, Quincy is capable of blowing sizable, damaging blasts of flame. This power varies with the amount of charging he's done.
Exploder Power: High, can reach Very High or Whoa with adequate charging Range: 20 yard radius, to 100 yard radius, depending on size and charging. Description: Quincy is capable of blowing himself up violently. The explosion is often devastating, and consumes all of the fire spirit's power in one go. After using this power, Quincy reverts to his neutral state (a fist-sized floating ball of flame) and must rest for a short period of time before his other powers work to any degree.
Phoenix Power Power: High Range: Touch, must have used Sink In Description: Quincy can bestow regenerative abilities upon his host, allowing them to recover from minor to moderate injuries at speed, and burn toxins from the host's body. In addition, he has the ability to keep his host alive through all but the most dire of injuries (head and all vital organs need to be attached,) so long as the host still has the will to live. Note, however, that Quincy has nothing in the way of pain-reductive abilities.
Charge Up Power: Medium Range: Touch with alcohol, Emotional-based may be used so long as there is no unbridged interdimensional gap between him and Dinadan. Description: As a living entity born of Dinadan's soul, Quincy can gain strength from certain emotions that Dinadan can feed him. Dinadan can channel his excess anger, lust, and sheer will to live into Quincy to give his guardian a power boost (which increases Quincy's abilities all around.) Quincy can also power up through consumption of alcohol, for some reason.
----
Weaknesses:
Cold and Water: Quincy dislikes cold and water intensely, and his abilities decrease when exposed to excess amounts of either. Though the effects of this weakness are reduced signifigantly when Sunk In, Quincy still prefers to stay well away from both of them. Magic Dependance: Quincy's shapeshifting abilities are magical in nature. If not Sunk In and subjected to a magic-nullifying attack, Quincy is reverted to his neutral shape (a floating ball of fire) and incapable of using any of his abilities save Sink In on Dinadan and Pictoral Telepathy, limiting his options for causing damage to running into people. If Sunk In and subjected to antimagic or after sinking in while antimagic is still in effect, Quincy is unable to emerge from his sunk in state.
