Father Peter Magnus
Species: Norlane (See "On Norlanes.")
Weight: 400 lbs.
Black, with the muzzle beginning to go white.
A simple black cassock with a white collar, and a pair of sandals.
Father Magnus generally has a gentle expression about the eyes, something that generally reassures children who might otherwise be frightened by his size. Despite his age, he still walks straight and tall, though he moves a bit slower.
Father Magnus is on a pilgrimage. He travels lightly, largely living off of the land. He is generally seen carrying a walking stick, a simple silver crucifix hung around his neck, and a knapsack. Inside the knapsack he keeps some traveling supplies, a few holy items, and a bible.
Abilities/Skills & Power Level:
Prophecy: Father Magnus sometimes has visions of possible futures, generally when he has the ability, either directly or indirectly, to change it. This ability is at the GM's discretion.
Mindreading: Father Magnus can enter the minds of others and gain information. However, they can resist him, particularly if they have strong wills. Generally it is used on willing subjects to confirm that they are telling the truth. He must be in a trance to use this ability.
Mindtouch: Father Magnus can move objects with his mind. However, he cannot lift more with his mind than he can lift physically.
Empathy: Father Magnus can sense the emotions of those around him, save when they have shields capable of blocking mental abilities.
Healing Touch Father Magnus can help to heal a person by laying hands on them. Unfortunately, this takes a great deal of energy, depending on the size of the wound.
Father Magnus does not have any specific weaknesses. He is vulnerable to much the same things as any ordinary mortal, but nothing harms him more than it would another.
Due to his thick fur and a layer of subcutaneous fat, Father Magnus has a much higher tolerance for cold than a human.
Father Magnus is, at heart, a teacher. He has become knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects, ranging from mathematics and science to history and philosophy. One of his preferred methods of teaching is through storytelling, with fables, fairytales, and parables. He is very patient with his students, helping them move at a pace they feel comfortable with. However, as a consummate perfectionist, he never takes his own mistakes lightly.
Once, norlanes were a simple, ordinary mountain predator. They resembled a cross between a bear and a large cat. The breed that was eventually selected to be evolved into Father Magnus' species were a northern species, with adaptations against the cold. They have thick, dark fur, and many of their features are somewhat small, such as the eyes, ears, and limbs, though their bodies are much larger, as per Allen's and Bergmann's rules of evolutionary biology. The head is round, with whiskers like a cat's. The snout is similar to a cat's, but is a bit longer. His ears are shaped like a cat's, but are much smaller in proportion to his head. Once changed into their current form, they walked on two legs, with plantigrade feet. They have five fingers on each hand, with blunted claws, much like a human's hand. They carry their bodies much as humans do.
In the society of the Four Kingdoms, Norlanes serve as healers and members of the church, using their psychic abilities to help the other three races. They are organized along ecclesiastic lines, with bishops being assigned to large areas and cities, and individual priests for villages and districts. A village priest performs several duties for their people. They give spiritual guidance, advice to individuals and town councils, and teach children. Their teachings tend to be varied, not merely limited to biblical matters, but spanning mathematics, history, and even martial techniques, so that the children can defend themselves in case of an emergency. As such, a priest needs to be knowledgeable on a variety of subjects.
Father Magnus was a teacher in a small village in Miliaris. He had been there for many years, when one day, he got the urge to travel. After arranging for a replacement, and after saying his goodbyes, he set off to explore more of the multiverse known as the Dream.
Since then, he's gone on to do many things, particularly in the realms of Debate and Learn. With the help of Pastangum, he formed the Napping Cat's Mensa. He has tried to teach others the value of research and verification. He has started and participated in debates. He married Zen l33t to Cave. He still wanders, not certain of what he's looking for, or when he'll find it, but quite content to teach as he goes on his way.
What is your ambition?
"To teach the children."
