House Altair Family Influence Level: Class A Non Related/Highly Disliked | | Weapons: | Dragon's Fang Sword: A sword carved from the bone of the First Dragon. It is the sister sword to the Thousand Star Saber, and it represents the power of knowledge in the universe. Once wielded by the first Dragon summoner, along with its counterpart, this sword was responsible for the unsteady peace that has settled upon Dra'zin. Both blades were sealed deep in a crypt, below the capital city of the Republic of the Jade Archipelago, along with the body of their wielder. It is said that if the two blades are not used for the same purpose, by one wielder, the force of conflict will draw each blade to destroy the other. (This weapon will come up in roleplay, but should be added to any picture that is done of Magnus.) The Dragon's Fang, now wielded by Magnus of the Faustus family line, has taken on the shape of a scimitar-like curved blade, and it is used in Magnus' dual bladed style as the attacking blade, where his usual broadsword acts to parry enemy attacks.
Steel Broadswords{2): Magnus' usual weapons, wielded in both hands. Designed for simplicity, and ease of use, even the most novice of all swordsmen can feel like a natural with these. However to full actualize the potential of these blades, the user's training must be relentless. Design resembles a classic Chinese Broadsword. Although more frequently used, these weapons tend to be less effective in combat than Magnus' firearm skills.
Dual Handguns: Not so often used, but Magnus carries a pair of semi automatic handguns, designed similarly to SigSauer 226's. The main differences are a magical converter in the handle that coverts magical energy from a person adept with magic, into projectile energy so more space in the barrel can be taken up with higher grade bullets, and a rather bulky extension on the barrel of the weapon, which houses a magnetic acceleration array, speeding the rounds of the weapon to supersonic speed. Although the energy booster is not normal Republic issue, the gauss technology is, and is more often than not seen in every element of public of private military factions in the Archipelago.
Special Weapon: For Magnus this weapon is actually applicable to a whole set of weapons, but the problem is he can only carry one at a time. And to use it all other weapons have to be holstered or put away. This set includes weapons such as bazookas, laser cannons, and any other unorthodox weaponry which Magnus creates.
Bombs: Also packed in Magnus' backpack is a variety of explosives suited to different situations. Things like smokebombs and flash grenades for quick escapes and entrances, as well as a number of cannonball shaped bombs with a fuse. The usage of these bombs are not often used for their purely offensive capabilities, but are used more for a quick distraction. | | Tools and Magic Items: | Backpack of Excessive Storage: A backpack that stores large quantities of materials in a small amount of space through the use of many pocket dimensions. It is in this fashion that Magnus can virtually carry an incredible amount of materials, yet not appear to have a particularly large backpack.
Tools: Magnus carries everything from hammer and nails, screwdrivers and boxes of screws, the electric counterparts of these, and a variety of maintenance equipment for his Terraglyph. He also carries covert tools, like lockpicks, wire cutters, and several types of devices meant to bypass electronic locks. | | Vehicles: | Pollux Mobile Combat Platform Registration: D-7629
The Pollux, registered to Magnus Faustus is a Level C Terraglyph, fully customized by its owner. The initial chassis was an old AltCo Mark III "Classic" series, which after being gutted and rebuilt, now is almost up to par with modern design standards. Standing at 7 feet tall, this powersuit like machine weighs over 250 pounds, not including the weight of the pilot. It appears to be shaped like an ancient piece of armour, though much heavier, and much larger, including several thrust exhaust ports to provide the assisted jump, and "Skating" capabilities of the suit. The body also is designed such that it can be broken down into fragments worn individually, to provide certain amplfications to the wearer's abilities. (ie. The arm provides a bionic muscle that increases strength tenfold.) The armament of the Pollux is normally one melee weapon, namely a high intensity plasma sabre. Its distance armaments are two weapons: a hip holstered small arm with heavy armour piercing capability, and the rotating wrist weapon cycler, which is able to deliver two modes of assault. These modes are gatling, which accesses a machinegun like weapon which fires armour piercing bullets not as effective on a per-bullet basis as the pistol however, and a secondary "Explosive" mode that permits the launching of High Explosive rockets. Defensively, the Pollux employs a large frontal shield which is used to deflect oncoming projectiles, however this shield is used for an alternate method as well, as the armour of most ships is no match for the Terraglyph at full thrust, with the triangular shaped shield leading the way with it's piercing edge. This manoeuvre is known as the "Comet" Dive, and to date, only three pilots, atmospheric and orbital, have been brave, or stupid enough to execute it.
What is a Terraglyph?: A Terraglyph is humanoid robotic warrior (Varying in size between 6 feet tall to 40 feet tall) which was designed and built upon planet Dra'zin and has been the primary instrument of war for hundreds of years. The first of these man-made titans was built three hundred years before, revolutionizing ancient conflicts, creating a kind of super-warrior that allowed one person to become the equivalent of a thousand opponents. This Terraglyph, the "Warrior King", was designed by the Faustus family's most prestigious ancestor, Stondarr the First. However this weapon was stolen by another Great House specifically House Altair, and was that family's path to glory over the next three hundred years, granting them prosperity and power over all the Great Houses, and subjugating the several small states that made up the Jade Archipelago, along with several colonies across the larger continents. This act of theft has long been a subject of much ill will between these two houses, especially after the acts of Stondarr's son, who in a failed attempt to assassinate the newly appointed Altair Council leader, caused House Faustus to be stripped of most of its political influence, along with several of the plots of land that had been considered Faustus ancestral territory for over a thousand years. The Terraglyph design has been revamped over the years by the Altair and Faustus familes, though the more prestigious became those built by AltCo, a company founded by the Altair family to market their modified Terraglyphs worldwide, only one of these designs being borrowed directly from the initial Faustus design. The Mark III, "Classic" design which was supposed to spur collectors to purchase this historical design at an increased price. However due to poor sales, this design was retired, and most of them were destroyed, or left in scrap yards to gather rust. | | Skills: | Magical:
Crashing Blast: If Magnus ever had a trademark move this would be it. It excites the molecules in a handful of air to volatile levels, and in this state it it sent across large distances, supercharging the materials they come in contact with causing an explosion. These explosions can be of three different levels, depending on the amount of energy put into them. The smallest of which being a slight spark, similar to a theatrical explosive charge. And the largest of which being a spectacular blast which can knock down a building, or a large Terraglyph, if aimed correctly.
Scatterbomb: Another magical explosion, but instead of a single condensed explosion, the projectile splits, causing a wider area of devastation. Quite helpful for those times there isn't a definate or slow moving target.
Energy Lancet: Focusing the same magical explosive power into a tight beam to create a sort of plasma laser that will cause fission of materials where the laser strikes.
Supernova: A magical explosion which instead of applying direct force to the molecules to the point of explosion, it instead causes the particles in the vicinity to brightly luminesce for a short period of time. (WARNING: Repeated exposure to Supernova can cause eye irritation, or even blindness)
Ignite: Powerful physical enchantment spell cast on others in the heat of battle. Intensifies the violent aura of others, to the point it becomes visible, giving the subject great strength and endurance for a short period of time. *In Testing*
Summon:
Dragon-Form: Summoning one's Dragon form is the pinnacle of any Great House member. It solidifies the connection between that creature's element, and the human, or semi-human host. This can endow certain abilities to that person, depending on the dragon their spirit is most linked to. However for novices, and people who do not have complete control over this form there is a downside. A failed transformation can turn the summoner into an immature dragon pup, in which form they are vunerable, and are subject to slow, unsteady mobility.
Dragon-Form Information:
Weight - Several Tonnes
Length - 45 foot two inches
Wingspan- 67 foot seven inches
Head to Torso- 11 foot 4 inches
Torso- 11 foot 0 inches
Tail length- 22 feet 10 inches
Dragon-Pup Information: (Your basic chubby looking kawaii draco-pup)
Height - 1'5"
Weight - 25 lbs
Physical:
Shatter: A martial arts technique, requiring great concentration, but allows the user to effectively break solid materials with their fist, without suffering injury. Although effective, Magnus is not completely adept at the part regarding "avoiding injury".
Quick Draw: A physical skill which allows the user to draw a weapon and attack before the opponent can reach theirs. (Hybrid Skill: Draws upon Magnus' half-human nature. However due to Magnus' being less felinoid than Ralma, his control of this speed increase is minimal, and the forcing of his muscles to complete this task often leads to internal injury.)
Double Sword Thrust/Slash: Using both blades Magnus can deliver heavy injury to an opponent directly in front of him, by striking simultaneously with both his parrying, and attacking blades.
Combo with Ralma:
Sibling Toss: Magnus has a hard head, so much so that his thick skull can often break things where a sword cannot. It is not unusual when going up against solid brick walls, or Golems, for Magnus' sister to suddenly grab Magnus by the feet and hurl him headfirst into his opponents.
Whirling Vortex: A bond of trust between warriors can often be the most dangerous weapon anybody could hold. The whirling vortex is just one such example. By synching their speeds and strikes to razor accuracy, Magnus and Ralma form a spinning tornado around their enemies, in which they land rapid blows against their opponent in random locations across their body.
Unholy Pentagram: Ralma and Magnus rush their target, striking at them at rapid speed, leaving visible trails as their blades scrape the ground during this. After the "marking" stage is complete, Magnus fills these etchings with his magic to cause a high power explosion to rip up out of the ground and assault the enemy.
Carpet Bombing: This move involves Ralma throwing Magnus up high in order to give him the best view of the battlefield possible. It is here that he rains down his magic in a flurry of explosions across his line of sight, which almost makes it look like a bombing raid.
Passive/Non-Combat Skills:
Creativity: Dangerous in the right hands, even more so in the wrong hands. Magnus' creativity allows him to devise machines that will allow him to meet his goals. So making things such as hang gliders, jetpacks, or completely new and unorthodox weapons is not completely beyond him. (WARNING: Do not be near Magnus when he tries to build something. Failure to stay outside of a fifty foot radius could result in serious injury.)
Mechanic: The innate ability to see a malfunctioning machine and to formulate a solution to that problem with only observations. | | Weaknesses: | Magnus has decent abilities at combat, but nowhere near his sister's. This makes his susceptible to anybody who is better at him than a sword, or can distract him long enough to hit him in the stomache, or jaw. Either place can send Magnus slumping to the ground in pain, though strangely enough these strikes don't actually do any skeletal damage, just flesh damage, which for some reason Magnus will keel over at.
He also has a definate weakness to chaotic energies, just as the Jade Dragon has a weakness to disorder, so does all its summoners. | | Special Effects (if any): | | Ill-Fated Destiny: Chronic, horrible bad luck. This is the extent of this effect. If it can happen, it will happen, but normally only to Magnus. It is this unfortunate bad luck which has numerous times caused Magnus severe head injury. Heavy objects falling from high perches tend to gravitate towards Magnus as if he was a magnet, and it is this "luck" which he has to blame for the numerous times a interspace portal has destabilized while he was in transit, causing him to be jettisoned out the other side at supersonic speeds. | | Description of Personality: | If there ever existed a phrase to best describe Magnus, it would be "Stuck-up jerk". However it appears that Magnus does not understand why these particular words describe him so well, because he often thinks of himself as a far more giving and heroic person than he actually acts like. Despite this, apparent personal lapse in social grace, Magnus does in fact have a few heroic notions in his head, although they often do not come through as being completely unselfish. He first and foremost wishes to see House Altair lose its control over the Archipelago, so that House Faustus might return to their ancient glory. The Altair agenda, and the agenda of Magnus' own family often conflict, as one would expect the goals of the rich to do with those of the poor and disinherited. For the Faustus family, blood is thicker than water, and it is that mentality that has made them often reach for greater power over their country. Not only to drag themselves from the dregs, but also to bring good management and their ideals to a corrupt society, as was once the case hundreds of years previous before House Altair began enforcing their worldview on society. Magnus as a result, believes in going to any lengths to achieve these goals of his family, and unfortunately, sometimes this means he loses sight of the goals themselves and takes on unjust means to just ends. But, these 'sterling' aspects taken into account, Magnus' beliefs play little into his actual behaviour sometimes. More often than not he comes off as a goofball, he attempts a lot to be the hero of his family, to be a kind of legend, but instead he comes off as little more than accident prone, and dangerous to himself. So generally, despite the effort taken to make his virtuous side come out, he seems to be constantly interrupted by his own unintentional pratfalls.
| | Brief History: | Born to Celine and Gunnar Faustus 18 years ago, Magnus has been a star-crossed child since his very beginnings. From the first time he had a book fall on his head after he had fallen into one of his father's bookcases, and his rather unique life in school, it was simply known that Magnus probably would never be the best citizen in the Republic. But as he grew up, meeting people like House Altair's "Prince" Troy, a spoiled overachieving brat, or his adopted sister Ralma, an unstoppable fountain of energy and forcefulness, he quickly decided what he must believe in and constantly strive for in his life. It is these beliefs that have caught him the dislike of Great House Altair, and why the Prince would rather have him dead and gone, (Or possibly because his sister Ralma had a tendency to harass the upper crust citizens, especially the prince, with childish pranks, like water balloons.)
His skills as a Terraglyph mechanic has earned him some respect in competitions, and he has made good strides in returning at least a little political influence to House Faustus, by making his feud with the Prince legendary amidst the archipelago, showing just how petty and underhanded their ruling caste could be. Although it appears Magnus will not be satisfied with the results of these efforts until Family Altair is kicked out of the leadership roles in the Archipelago. | | Relevant Links: | Who Says a Cat Lands on Her Feet?
