, a multi-tailed standing fox species native to dreams.
5'4", or 1.626 meters.
Skinny, yet slightly curvaceous. Notably, her tails are exceptionally fluffy.
She has a pronounced muzzle with sharp pointy teeth if she grins, and seems to not at all care whether she's digitigrade or plantigrade.
Tail Length (Fur Measure)
Tail Length (Bone Measure)
Coloration (skin, scales, fur, feathers, hair, etc.)
Her fur and hair is a pure silver shade, while her actual skintone is deep black.
Yes this means black nose, black pads on her feet, etcetera.
She's typically found in a relatively plain shirt and slack-like pants. For her shirts she prefers cool tones, and her pants are almost invariably black, tan, or blue. She will not wear jeans, given that they're too tight for her to be comfortable in with her thick fur - her pants and shirt are always somewhat loose-fitting. When appropriate, she'll wear swimwear, normally either a bronze bikini cut to allow for her tails or a gold nearly-backless (again, tails) one-piece like this
Priestess of the Order of DatBan. In a nutshell, she's a loyal follower of her Player God, although the rate at which she has been known to mouth off to him would sometimes seem to preclude use of the word loyal. Her DreamSpinner foci are Wisdom and Security, although these aren't all-powerful demands on how she acts.
Affiliations (family, friends, organizations)
Most important from a standpoint of understanding what she does is her Player God, DatBan. However, the most you'll ever see out of him in The Dream is the occasional chat appearance as a little quasi-annoying DatFoxie, and even that will be rare. However, there are a few important relationships that she has within The Dream.
- First, she's aligned with Karol Luis and often Ceera Darkwynde, with whom she helps manage the Welcome Center in ENTER.
- Next on the list of "lucky" few seems to be Lady Marianne, who Krinele is helping with the restoration of a Kitsune shrine.
- Most recently, Furilius Pitch has enlisted her aid (and her Player God's) in administrating the Napping Cat's Dream, in addition to the existing work that's been put in on the Comic Projector and other such projects.
Of course, there's also her sister, Molly Fullin
, to worry about. Together, the two often spell "Trouble" for Avatars and Player Gods alike.
People Who Need Poking With The Stick (enemies, foes, antagonists)
If one spends any time in The Dream, one finds some Avatars… how to best put it… aren't someone you're entirely glad exist. Krinele, being the first who will admit she is far from perfect, knows of a few such people. This does not, however, mean that she's likely to take any action against them… she knows much of how The Dream works, including the concept of threads of reality, so has no problem letting them do their own thing… elsewhere where she doesn't have to deal with it.
- "Tibby" (Punishment Version, included here due to Chat appearances)
- When one worships a Player God, what one can only term a madman apparently seeking to exterminate them is not the best of things for you to see. The General is on her "avoid at all costs" list, you will rarely see her even in the same thread of reality as him most of the time. When required to interact with him for social reasons, she is polite and unassuming (and can actually often be found offering him perfectly normal tea)… she prefers to stay away from events dealing with Player Gods when those hostile to them are around.
Striker RedWolf Anything from the same universe as aforementioned being.
- Although not at all threatening her existence in any way shape or form, this fur has on several occasions tried her sanity in the Welcome Center. More recently, as her experience with those from the same originating universe as the above has expanded, she's taken on a generalized distaste for anything associated with it. Hey, everyone needs a fault, and she's willing to live with a relatively-justified prejudice. Fortunately, she doesn't have to deal with them much anymore.
Accessories and Weapons
Krinele is rarely without her sharp pointy stick, a holy weapon of her order. In addition to being able to poke people with it, the advanced technology and pseudo-wood surface allow her to make amazingly competent use of it as a marshmallow roaster.
She may, at times, carry a crossbow with her. Again, this is a holy weapon, although the exact effects of holy weapons vary so much in The Dream that it's almost exclusively a GM's call.
During a particular holiday season at the end of 2004, Krinele recieved a magical purse from Ceera Darkwynde. She uses this on formal affairs, when her usual adventuring backpack (which has its own enchantments) isn't appropriate. It's been enchanted to take on a form and coloration that works well with any clothing that Krinele might be wearing, and has proven handy on the occasions that she's actually concerning herself with fashion. It bears some enchantment on its carrying capacity.
It is exceptionally rare to see her wearing jewelry of any sort, although she does carry a modestly-sized backpack enhanced to allow it to carry as much as a large suitcase with significant weight reduction. She almost always has the following inside:
- Brush (From Luthorne upon arrival)
- Towel (Never leave home without it, from the Welcome Center)
- Tail Squeegee (Essential DreamSpinner item, acquired in the Welcome Center)
- Swimsuits: (A bronze-colored bikini and a gold-colored one-piece.)
- Bag of marshmallows (the big kind) for roasting
Abilities/Skills & Power Level
Being a DreamSpinner, she has some control over dreams, including those of the Napping Cat. If her powers were to be benchmarked against, say, Ceera Darkwynde
, one would find that the two are likely quite evenly matched overall. Of course, being defensively minded in her Dream manipulation rather than offensively minded, her skills with protective wards could be quite superior, with her "harmful" abilities falling quite a bit shorter than our good witch's.
It's notable, however, that a DreamSpinner's abilities are easiest to produce strongly at wide range with poor focus. Given a receptive thread of reality, it would not be hard at all for her to create a ward similar to those found in the Welcome Center, with the same lack of concern for whom it protects. A successful ward against magic could very easily prove fatal for any creature that relies on magical energies to live.
Krinele has some melee combat ability, mostly focusing on either her Sharp Pointy Stick or the typical Long-Tail's "Tail Fu". This makes sense when you realize that a DreamSpinner's tails have armor superior to dragon skin, and a bone structure of similar resilience allowing them to take crushing blows. The final blow in making them highly effective weapons is the tremendous muscle strength they have, capable of exerting squeezing forces similar to large constricting snakes or using their tips as hardened spikes. They can also function as highly effective layers of insulation from cold… although they do little to dissipate heat.
Lastly, she can cast a type of divine magic specific to The Dream… contacting her PG and asking him to request that the GM cause a certain result. Normally… it doesn't work unless this is right in line with what the GM wants. However… if she is the GM's Avatar… then the story changes. She'll work hand-in-hand with her PG to direct the plot-line, and if she wishes something to happen… it will.
Powers, Abilities, and Objects Beyond Her Wishes to Obtain
Sometimes, good-meaning people present Avatars with things that they're not expecting to recieve, and for a DreamSpinner this can cause some interesting variations in powers for different threads of reality. As Krinele has recently resumed her adventuring streak, she's gotten one such 'blessing' from those she's helped.
For helping save captured Safrian souls
, Krinele has been "blessed" with the gift of turning into a silver falcon
. She's not entirely keen on the idea yet, as for one she has no clue how to work these things called "wings".
Any ability in this section can be trimmed for any role-play thread.
They're not part of her core person, and the fuzziness of a 'Spinner's cross over different threads of reality may mean they're left behind.
However powerful her tails may be, they are still about 40% of her body mass attached to her rear end, and this can make may things more complicated then they should seem to be… like standing up. In order to do this she will frequently have at least two tails curled around in front of her as counterbalances, perhaps some distance forward even. Another common tactic for her is to wrap her tails around her legs like a sort of dress, and finally she sometimes just props herself up by the blasted things.
She is quite vulnerable to piercing weapons, like firearms, that her tails can't stop. As well, she can't stand up to heat as well as a creature without as much fluff could, as that insulation that allows her to easily stand up to a blizzard will also cause her to overheat rapidly.
Special Effects (if any)
- Krinele, like any DreamSpinner, is completely invisible to psionics and telepathy, not being capable of broadcasting or receiving anything of the sort.
- An example of her wardings would be the difficulty of successfully de-pantsing (or de-shirting) her in the chat, as she manipulates The Dream gently to always have another pair on the moment that someone removes the existing one.
Description of Personality
Krinele's personality is somewhat of an enigma, especially to her Player God. While she's supposed to be an embodiment of Wisdom and Security, she is often given to flights of fancy or other side-trips. Sometimes she tries to return to her course with a similar air as one would expect from a cat that just fell face-first into her water dish, but other times she seems to accept her plot and just keep right on playing with that pillow. However, if you encounter her out and about, it's safe to say that she's going to be polite and friendly, if perhaps a bit contemplative over things. One sure-fire way to annoy her is to overreact to situations time and again, as if in a state of constant panic. To quote her, "If you cut a chicken's head off, it can still run around. That's why we use piercing weapons… you can nail the blasted thing to the ground when you hit it."
Krinele's early history, perhaps due to some secrecy in The Order of DatBan, is quite hard to come by… she doesn't tend to divulge it much, nor do any other members of the Order. Of course, this can be understood, as there are many who would consider DreamSpinners naught but common parasites of dreams. Fortunately for them, their PG and Dreamer is quite enthusiastic about having a bunch of multi-tailed soft cuddly vixenly ladies running around in his dreams… Go figure.
Her first foray into The Dream was during Heroes of Today in 2002, where Krinele took on an NPC role in a dream-like excursion… that pretty much signaled the end of that RP. However, all was not lost as she returned over a period of months via AIM conversations, solidifying her position with her Player God so she could Enter The Dream in full style almost a year later.
Fully inside The Dream, she has taken on a position with the Welcome Center and occasionally entered into a few DEBATE threads where she has butted heads with both Avatars and PG's. She has also, along with her fellow DreamSpinners, constructed a holy Pillow Pit of her Order. Although simple-looking in normal function, beneath the surface it is quite a technological marvel.
Dancing in the Dark
Krinele's formative years were during that period known as the 1980's. This has left her with a few particular nostalgic pastimes, like dancing with blacklights - though it points out one little difference with some of her fur.
Trimming the Tree by Kacey
Krinele and Molly decorate a tree in much more comfortable fashion than they're often seen together in.
Krinele Cheesecake by Oni
This really needs no further explanation.
Krinele in Dress by Oni
This was a gift from the Mystery Benefactor that procured a number of Oni's bust art slots in June of 2006. A very formal image of Krinele in a dress - presumably attired for some occasion. While it's been turned into a card, I feel it appropriate to display here as well out of gratitude.
Krinele and the Moron by Clae and Quetzal
Not much needs said about what's going on here. This was a gift from Clae/Reticence and Quetzal. I pushed lightly to get them accepted as full PArtists's after this pic for admittedly selfish reasons, but no dice. Sorry, I tried.
Krinele Reading by J.L. Anderson
I won this commission at auction... and due to certain factors in my bidding, Jennifer opted to draw an image at larger size than was originally specified. This is the absolutely marvelous result.
Krinele by SPike
We were throwing characters at SPike to draw in Shi-paint. After he did the lineart there, he transfered to Photoshop to finish this piece. One of the few, perhaps the only, picture of Krin to feature her hair a lighter shade than her bodyfur.
Krinele on Pillow by Kacey
This was, I'll be honest, my first time commissioning an image of any character. I had originally pictured Krinele with short hair, but after seeing the sketch of this... well... Kacey does marvelous work, and longer hair fit her perfectly.
Krinele and Buzzle by Lisa V.
This is the first rendition of Krinele to exist. Color and tail-count's right, the rest... who cares, it was a thank-you for sponsoring Buzzle by his PG. Let this be a lesson: If you see someone who's fun to interact with and you can sponsor... go ahead and do it.
A brief and character revealing answer to the question, "What is your ambition?"
"I seek to go out in life, take in the beauty of dreams and nightmares alike, and maybe make some sense out of it all."
