“Caesar Potent”
This young man, once an adventurous wizard from the continent of Alphatia, Mystara, has traversed through time and space to reach the Dream. He is one of many possible alternates in a world of infinite choices and actions. He is a thin man, young. He is always shrouded in mystery, given his wizardly occupation. Still, there is more to the boy than meets the eye...
**~~~~~ Physical Description & Equipment ~~~~~**
Caesar is a human of little physique†. His metabolism is surprisingly high, giving him the need for a decent caloric intake to match his body's need for nourishment. He is only 22 years of age right now, so he has a long life ahead of him (assuming his magical studies do not interfere, of course).
His hair is a ragged, dirty blond, with a few bangs hanging heavily over his right eye. His eyes are a deep blue, comparative to swirling pools of water that one might drown in if they stared for too long! Skin fair and light, nearly pale at times when he goes through long study/research sessions and sees a small amount of light.
Of clothing, he wears very simple attire. Aside from loose articles of clothing (pants, shirt, vest) of a very bland color, the mage also dons a very expensive-looking black cloak. The material is silk, darker than a moonless night. One might almost say that it seems to absorb light... In fact, this cloak gives the wizard the illusion of displacement, showing him and his general vicinity to be closer than he actually is.
At his side is a spellbook. It remains attached to his sash, ever present at his side and never far out of reach. One must assume, of course, that this is a traveling spellbook and not to be considered his only source of material. Surrounding the sash and within various pockets of his cloak are spell components of all natures. He even has what looks to be a holy relic, though it's difficult to tell if it's simply a trinket, a focus, or something deeper to him.
He also walks around with a rather ornate staff. Oak, polished, and well-crafted, there is mighty magic that emanates from the weapon. The head of the staff is composed of four eagle's claws, each in a cardinal direction, and pointed inward, holding down a single gem of crimson. Some might say it is a ruby, but most know better: Rubies don't have vortexes of pure gold swirling inside of them!
He has a few other magical items on his person, stashed away inside pockets with extra dimensional space. He can retrieve them at will, should he ever have need. What items they are has yet to be seen, but he has been known to produce fancy quills and vials of ink from seemingly nowhere.
**~~~~~ Abilities, Skills, & Power Level ~~~~~**
Caesar has studied magic under too many tutors to count. He has obtained spell after spell in his search for more power and knowledge. Some of his more commonly seen ones are included below:
- Polymorph/Shapechange
- Lightning Bolt
- Fireball
- Teleport
- Wind Wall
- Wall of Force
Without giving any specific numbers, Caesar is a powerful wizard in his own right. He can take down small armies by himself, and entire continents with his colleagues. Thankfully, he has no foolhardy desires for land nor resources. The devastation of one of his fireballs is enough to take out large chunks of mountainsides, his lightning bolt can rip through steel (essentially becoming plasma), and his wall can withstand punishment from the heaviest of celestial objects.
His ability to change shapes is his most commonly used magic, and he uses it to great effect. With much study over the years, he has taken on many forms. Gryphons, dragons, fae, elves, even mighty undead such as liches and vampires! He always seems to have the spell in place wherever he may go, ready to take on a more appropriate shape should the need arise. When changed in such a way, he gains all of said creature's abilities, both natural and supernatural.
Finally, he has learned a little trick regarding teleportation from a possession experience in his past (see Wyrmstar). Perhaps it was the will of the Napping Cat, or simply his own exertion of will upon the surrounding area, but Caesar has learned to teleport anywhere within the Dream. He need only think for a moment of the destination and the magic carries him there, unscathed, quickly, and accurately.
Caesar is also an amazing alchemist. He has been known to uncover a concoction's properties and identify it with only a whiff of its scent. He has created many potions of various strengths, bringing in loads of options wherever they might be used (acid, flames, sound, even electric). He actually keeps several stoppered vials within the extra dimensional pockets of his cloak, never certain that he has enough.
His creations are not always offensive, either. He can concoct anti-toxins, eye drops (that actually enhance vision), cleaning solutions, and a variety of gear that provide similar benefits (such as breathing masks, fire-proof clothing, ever-cool hand and neck bands, etc.).
**~~~~~ Personal History, Demeanor, & Ambitions ~~~~~**
Caesar is, to put it bluntly, an ass. He doesn't think highly of himself, but he does condescend others†. He is always studying, always researching, and always experimenting†. His experiences with Sibyl Human, a local fae, have brought some of his brighter sides out, giving him slightly more conversational skills to work with... but not many.
He first entered the Dream thanks to a rather random teleportation. He claims that originally he was taking another path, working for some man named "Darch." The remainder of the details are fuzzy, but it was made quite clear that he was not supposed to arrive at this destination! He was actually traveling with a companion by the name of Leif Evergreen, an old colleague and fellow adventurer. Through time and adventure, the two slowly walked different paths within the Dream, eventually not seeing each other again. Though Caesar was disappointed in this, he kept researching for a way to return home.
Caesar's first dilemma came in the form of his ability to cast magic, oddly enough. Originally, casting spells for him involved drawing upon ley lines from Mystara, his home world. However, it became all too noticeable when his body started to petrify, a cursed backlash affecting the poor wizard who was quickly losing his ability to cast spells. Given time, and through his weakness, his mother, Akora, was able to track him down through a portal leading to the Dream. She was a horrible witch, claiming to desire her son and never be apart from him again. It was through this kidnapping that something hideous was born...
Wyrmstar:
A fusion of demon and devil, Wyrmstar was implanted into Caesar's body and soul. The process was decidedly evil and torturing, involving the removal of said subjects and replacement. While he looked the same, his body was not his own. With time, Caesar grew in magical ability. In fact, he was unmatched by even his former self. Over a small period, this creature began to overtake Caesar more and more, unbound from the mage's whims. They desired only death and destruction and the hatred and fear it brought about. It was utterly and wholly evil, make no mistake. Their dark power came with a price!
Given time, a single aspect of the original Caesar found its way to an old student of his, asking for aid. Together, with Ron Bjork, Caesar was restored. By summoning Wyrmstar, Caesar and the creature were temporarily separated. While this was in effect, and the locale sheltered from the outside world, a great battle ensued. Ron and the aspect of Caesar were victorious, sending the beasts back to their own dimensions.
Teacher:
Despite his rough outlook and uncaring expressions, Caesar has a passion for knowledge. After researching a bit about one Litty Kinnles, and why she was so resistant to magic, he'd found himself with an orphanage full of children that he needed to rescue (from a rather tyrannical den mother). Soon after, the Solemnity Mage Academy and Deliverance Orphanage was brought into existence, a school and home for the children. And so did Caesar Potent become a teacher of children, of science, magic, and literature.
To date, Caesar spends most of his time researching new spells† and has all but given up on going home. It is uncertain if he has steeled his resolve finally, accepting that this place was perhaps his destined location, but he no longer seeks exodus. His ambition has definitely changed!
"I seek knowledge. I seek vast amounts of information so that I may seek yet more. There is so much to learn, so much to do! I shall seek for as long as I can... When the time is right, I will return."
