Age (actual & apparent ): 27

Gender: Male

Species/Race: An avian who could be called an anthro crow or blackbird

Height: 5'3"

Physical Description Details: muscular upper torso but otherwise thin and wiry. Stands completely upright, skinny back-bending legs with thick skin and prehensile feet, feathers covering the rest of his body, an erect mobile tail with feathers about 3 ft long, arms are wings with primary feathers up to 3 ft long, wingspan about 15 ft. Has hands at the end of each wing, each has 3 fingers and a thumb and bare skin similar to his feet. Beak is not especially flexible: expressions come mostly from his eyes and body language.

Coloration: feathers are naturally dark gray and lusterless, beak and skin are almost the same shade. Eyes are black except for a yellow ring outside the iris.
However, he uses a combination of dyes and minor magic to make his exposed feathers appear a rich, iridescent black (he dyes all his feathers, but magically enhances only the parts that are exposed). Uses polish on his beak and claws, and sometimes has geometric designs painted on his beak in bright or neon colors, like fingernail decorations

Gear
Clothing/Armor: most of the time his clothes are stylish and brightly colored (in coordinated, non-clashing colors). Trousers are cut to hang loose and conceal the thinness of his legs. When at work he wears more conservative clothes, but still in bright colors. When camping or exploring, he wears ordinary, rugged outdoor wear. Though he doesn't really need footwear, he wears glove-like shoes that match his outfits while leaving his toes free to move or uncovered. The sleeves of whatever shirt, jacket, or coat he is wearing will be wide, like a kimono sleeve, to allow his wing feathers to be folded back inside them. This is normal where he's from and not uncomfortable. The sleeves have a slit along the bottom that is fastened together, allowing them to be opened and folded back when he needs his wings unobstructed for flight. Short-sleeved shirts generally leave the slit unfastened. He has recently acquired a full length leather coat. The leather is an unusual indigo shade, which is the leather's natural color, not the result of the tanning process. He's not much for hats, but usually wears one when he's out in the sunlight because of his black feathers. It will match his outfit.

Jewelry: Doesn't wear jewelry while exploring. Otherwise wears 1-4 rings of silver or gold with semiprecious stones. Sometimes wears similar stickpins attached to his tailfeathers. Often has other accessories, such as cufflinks or sunglasses, depending on his outfit, and ususally has a pocket watch (wristwatches are inconvenient for a flying being whose arms are his wings).

Weapons: unarmed most of the time. When exploring, carries a medium caliber automatic pistol which he knows how to use.

Magic Items: carries an assortment of small bones and bone fragments which are needed for his style of magic. Some of these have been prepared in advance for use and might register as magic items. These are all bones from common animals, some are even from past meals.

The Oar: An ordinary looking oar, stained a dark color and varnished, with the letters "W.O.W." carved in the butt. The oar has the power to manipulate and control air and water, including weather. It can be used to propel boats, with the effective strength of 20, 50, or 100 rowers. It is apparently semi-sentient, and has attitudes and desires that sometimes run contrary to those of its owner. If it is capable of speech, it has not done so.

Borbel's Box of Baubles: A wooden box, bound with metal straps, which contains a metal tripod and spaces for nine small objects. Currently some of the spaces are empty. The tripod stands 4' tall when fully assembled, though its legs are segmented so that it can be made smaller. The baubles each have magic powers which only work when they are mounted on the tripod. Of the baubles in Ichak's possession, one has the ability to block magical scrying by "making things look uninteresting" (powerful scrying can penetrate, but Ichak will be alerted), and one generates various light effects.

Ichak has one hidden magic item, which he wears at his waist under his clothes. It is concealed from detection by a low-level anti-detection spell--casual scanning won't reveal it. It is bonded to him and can't be removed, even though he wants to be rid of it. The simplest description for the device is a magic UPS--it accumulates magic from the environment, cleans it up, and makes it available for Ichak's use. However, the device has several spells already running on it, and these spells are not under Ichak's control. They include the anti-detection spell, a magic defense spell (which decreases in power over a short distance--Ichak's midriff is well-protected, but his head, feet, and wingtips have little protection), a physical protection spell (which only covers his abdomen), and a few other low-power spells which are further concealed from detection an analysis. The defensive spells seem inherent to the device, while the others are add-ons. More details will be revealed as they come to light in roleplay.

Skills
Occupation/Class: Bon vivant when he can be, would-be Indiana Jones due to his circumstances, and also a competent accountant. His lifestyle has caused him to learn a mixed bag of other skills

Combat Skills: A decent shot with pistols. His avian nature makes him a lightweight, so he avoids hand-to-hand fighting. However, he can give powerful blows with his wings, and slashing kicks with his feet. He's agile and has fast reflexes and good eyesight.

Magic Powers/Spells/Psi: In the world he is from, low-level magic is commonplace, while powerful magic has been lost and is the stuff of old stories and ancient lost civilizations. Even though he is human-sized, he flies well with magical assistance (without magic, he can make extended leaps, glide, and fall long distances without injury, but isn't capable of true flight). He knows a large variety of utility spells (which would probably be called 'cantrips' by most spell casters). The spells are versatile, but limited in power. This comes from the limitations of his home environment.

He became the apprentice of Ron Bjork, and in that role began to learn forms of magic compatible with the Dream. His education has steadily progressed, though he has yet to display much in the way of new abilities.

Talents/Abilities: He has good social skills. He has a good sense of rhythm, but can't carry a tune.

Weaknesses: Because of his avian nature, his bones are slightly fragile. He is very vain and is insecure about his appearance and the opinions of others. He tends to overcompensate. He has a poor sense of smell and isn't a very good swimmer.

Special Effects: It's an affectation, but Ichak uses a spell to cause the primary feathers at his wingtips to follow the motions of his hands as if the feathers were fingers. He leaves a few primary feathers loose from his sleeves to create this effect.

Character

Personality: Friendly and talkative, a little flirtatious. However, for some reason he shies away from conversations and relationships that get too intimate, even though it's pretty obvious he enjoys them.

He has a strong sense of curiousity and seeks out new and exciting things.

He can be a real jerk sometimes, but in his culture it is the norm to blow your own horn--out of sight is out of mind. He's vain, but his culture encourages vanity. He's concerned not only with his own appearance, but also those he's with.

Quote: "Modest? Of course I'm modest! I'm as modest as the day is long!"

Passions & Pastimes: Good food, drink, and companionship. However, he's been forced to take up other pursuits: travel and exploration, which he admittedly enjoys.

Pet Peeves & Dislikes: Has a strong dislike of practical jokes, whoever is the target.

History

Brief History: Ichak is a gray-feathered avian who makes up for his drab appearance with stylish clothes and an outgoing personality. Thanks to a practical joke played on him a couple of years ago, he has been traveling and exploring to find a way to get rid of a magic item bonded to him. When he found his way into the Dream, the more powerful magic available gave him hope that a solution could be found here, and he continues his search. He also enjoys spending time in nightclubs and other social venues. During his day job, he is a competent accountant. Who knows when he finds time to sleep?

Facts, Dates & Stats:

Detailed History
Ichak comes from a world with a variety of anthro animal races (38 intelligent species), whose culture is dominated by the avian species.

Over a thousand years ago, his world was in constant warfare between the different orders vying for control. A group of avian spellcasters found a way to make magic spells more difficult to cast, and with the help of war weary mages from many species, performed a ritual that changed their world. It became impossible to cast anything but the weakest spells, although exiting powerful artifacts continued to work. Avian society had secretly been prepared for the change, and came to be the controlling order of their world.

Because of avian dominance, appearance and reputation are very important throughout the world. (Think avian courtship displays and bird calls.)

Low level magic is used throughout his civilization, and all advances whether mechanical or technological or medical, have some magic involved to make them work better than they would otherwise.

Ichak was a successful accountant for a wealthy elderly couple, who knowingly let him use their resources to paint a picture of himself as a wealthy socialite.

Because of Ichak's posing as a wealthy playboy, he earned the jealousy of his doctor, who was otherwise a longtime friend. This doctor decided to pull a practical joke on Ichak. It wasn't meant to be anything serious, but it had long term consequences for both of them.

The doctor eventually had to admit what he had done. Ichak was angry at him, but they quickly realized that if their situation became public knowledge, both their reputations would be damaged. They agreed to keep the matter between them, and work together on the solution.

In the months that followed, both Ichak and his doctor suddenly gained an interest in traveling and visiting ancient sites, which they did either separately or together.

It was during one of these solitary expeditions that Ichak found a portal to the Dream, and went through.

Ambition: To get back the parts of my life that I've lost. If I can make friends and have a good time on the way, that's all gravy.
