Avatar Profile
Arc Nova
Last Updated and Revised on: 12-8-03.
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Species: Dragon (anthropomorphic in appearance)
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 200 Lbs. (not including armor and gear)
Build: Muscular, but not absurdly so.
Eye Color: Amber with black pupils
Pets: None (at this time)
Scale Color: Head, back, arms, legs, wings, and tail are emerald green. Chest, abdomen and underside of tail are yellow.

Other Physical Details:

~ Hands have three fingers plus an opposable thumb, each ending in a white claw.

~ Feet have three toes of equal size, again ending in white claws. A fourth claw extends out the back of each heel.

~ Tail extends roughly 40" from the base of the spine.

~ Wings are draconic in structure/appearance (i.e. more bat-like than bird or insect-like) and are attached to the back, separate from the arms. They are large when fully extended, but compact and neatly folded along the back when not in use.

~ Horns extend straight back along the head, just above and behind the ears. They are white in color, and the base of each horn is thicker than the tip, which ends in a sharp point.

~ A ridge of golden scales protrudes vertically from the top of the head and extends down the spine to the tip of the tail.

~ Snout is elongated and arranged with sharp molars and slightly pronounced canines. None stick out when mouth is closed.
Attire:
Unless otherwise stated, It is assumed that Arc is dressed in:

~ Very dark gray body armor with a small amount of gold trim. A ruby-red gem is located over the area of the heart. The arms of the armor extend around the shoulders and stop just beyond them. The legs extend down the thighs and stop just above the knees. A third 'leg' of equal length covers the base of the tail. The remainder of the tail, as well as the head and wings are left bare.

~ Armored gauntlets, of the same type and color as the body armor, protect Arc's hands, fingers, and lower arms. They are separate from the armor itself, and stop just short of the elbows. The elbows themselves are left bare.

~ Armored boots, also of the same type and color as the body armor, surround and protect each foot. They extend six inches above the ankle, a fair distance shy of the knees. The knees themselves are left bare.

~ A plain, white, T-shirt and a pair of black, knee-length shorts are worn beneath the armor. Neither can be seen unless the armor is removed. Both articles take the dragon's wings and tail into account.

Optional: A cape (specially designed to accommodate dragon wings) attaches to the back of the armor. While the cape's exterior is the same dark gray as the armor itself, the interior is dark blue. The cape is removable and generally worn only in formal situations.
Accessories:
~ A small, leather backpack, worn between the wings. Used to carry various items while traveling (such as non-perishable food and the aforementioned cape.) Specific contents are subject to change from thread to thread.

Additional: Arc doesn't subscribe to the concept of jewelry, and generally avoids wearing rings, bracelets, and necklaces. He also disapproves of both piercings and tattoos, and thus has none of his own.
Weapons:
-= Primary =-

~ A broad, straight-bladed sword approximately 42" long. Made with strong, yet lightweight materials and perfectly balanced at the handle. Can be wielded with one or two hands. Hilt/handle shares the same color scheme as the body armor and the hilt has a small, ruby-red Cel Stone set in its center. The blade is normally silver in color, but gives off a thin light-blue aura when charged with Cel Energy. Below and parallel to the hilt is another handle, set perpendicular to the main handle. This is attached so that the sword can be wielded like a policeman's nightstick, if desired. The main handle extends beyond them, ending in a counter-weighted pommel. When activated, the Cel Stone gives the blade lightsabre-esque cutting power, yet remains harmless to ordinary touching. When not in use, the sword is carried in a protective, alloy sheath, attached to the back of his armor just off to the right of the backpack.

~ A lightweight, medium sized, energy-pulse blaster. It is grayish-white in color, with a small, ruby-red Cel Stone embedded on the side. It has a targeting scope attached on top, and a laser sight slung just beneath the barrel. The blaster fires powerful bolts of bright blue Cel Energy, and carries a maximum load of 150 rounds. It can be set to either semi-automatic, or charged-shot firing modes. The latter expends the equivalent of 5 normal rounds per shot and takes around 3-4 seconds to power-up each time, but the shots are larger and much more powerful. The intensity of the bolts can also be adjusted to a more non-lethal 'stun' setting. Thanks to its Cel based power source, the weapon can recover ammo automatically, but this takes time (usually around 24 hours to go from totally empty to fully charged). The gun is stored in a holster located on the side of right thigh (along the armor) when not in use.

Additional: If desired, the sword and blaster can be combined to form a single weapon. A connection point located on the bottom of the gun's grip locks onto a similar connector located at the end of the sword's nightstick handle. When attached, both the blade and gun barrel point in the same direction; though the blade extends roughly 2 1/2 times as far. In this configuration, Cel Energy can be shared between the two weapons. This setup is not only highly effective in close range battles, it can also be used as a makeshift sniper's rifle, with the bottom of the sword's primary handle acting as the gun's butt. It works well in this role, though not as well as a weapon designed exclusively for that purpose.

-= Secondary =-

~ Sharp teeth and claws for melee combat. Draconic fire breath. Miscellaneous Cel enhanced techniques (See Abilities section for more.)

Note: Additional weapons may be acquired during the course of an adventure, but won't carry over from thread to thread. Long-term additions will be added to this profile as necessary.
Abilities:
-= Natural Abilities =-

~ Flight: Arc's wings allow him to fly for long distances, but as they are primarily designed for gliding, his airborne agility is somewhat limited. He is strong enough to carry another person and their gear, though not on his back, as that would restrict the movement of his wings. Passengers, therefore, must hang on from underneath. The added weight of doing this reduces Arc's flying range and further diminishes his maneuverability, though the extent varies depending on the situation. Still, even small loads increase the risk of painful, even fatal, crash landings. Thus, Arc is reluctant to take someone else into the air except in life-or-death situations.

~ Fire Breath: Like most dragons Arc has the ability to breathe fire. Flammable liquid, produced and stored naturally by special glands in his chest, is excreted at high velocity through a small tube at the roof of his mouth. The mixture is ignited by a minute, bioelectrical charge generated at the tip of his snout, just behind the front teeth. Range is limited to about five yards, and can only be used a few times before Arc runs out of fuel. To prevent internal combustion, the chemical is divided into two separate sacs, and only becomes volatile when excreted and mixed. The tube that mixture travels through is heavily valved, to guard against backflow. The act of breathing fire forces Arc's jaw open for the duration of each breath, and flames can only be emitted at high speed.

~ Miscellaneous: Arc's senses are comparable to those of a human, but slightly superior in the areas of hearing and smell. His vision is the same in daylight, but far more acute in the dark. He is ambidextrous, physically well coordinated, and both a master swordsman and sharpshooter. He is an expert in his own people's technology, and proficient with technology and mechanics in general. He is intelligent, and has plenty of common sense, but is by no means a rocket scientist. Arc is familiar with magic, but doesn't have the ability to use it himself. It is unclear at this point whether he'll be able to learn that skill in the future.

-= Cel Stones & Cel Energy =-

Arc's technology is fueled by a unique form of power known as 'Cel Energy.' It is a clean, efficient, and renewable source of energy that is generated and stored within small, ruby-colored gems called 'Cel Stones.' A single, large Cel Stone is embedded in Arc's body armor over the heart area. Smaller stones are attached to each of his weapons, and are intended for their exclusive use (though energy can be rerouted elsewhere in times of crisis.) Cel Stones emit a subtle, pinkish-red light that glows brighter the more they are used. Though a Cel Stone's energy reserves are vast, they are not limitless. With continuous use, they will eventually be drained of power and go completely dark. Cel Energy is recharged automatically, but not quickly. About 24 hours is required for a stone to go from empty to fully-charged.

Besides powering Arc's equipment, Cel Energy has a number of other uses:

~ Enhanced Abilities: Through the use of his nanobots (see below), Arc can channel Cel Energy directly into his body, enhancing his natural abilities in different ways. When directed into his arms and upper body, for example, Cel Energy can give Arc super strength. When directed toward the legs, he can run faster, or jump extra high. A little Cel Energy in the wing muscles can give the dragon additional lifting power. Cel Energy can also be used to provide extra endurance, thus allowing him to lift, run, jump, or fly for longer periods without getting tired.

~ Force Field Projection: When channeled through his armor, Arc can use Cel Energy to create protective force fields. These shields are electric blue in color, and can take any number of shapes and sizes. However, the larger they are, the more Cel Energy is needed to maintain them. Small shields may simply be a disc-shaped barrier projected by one of the gauntlets for uni-directional defense. Large shields may surround Arc's body on all sides, or expand outwards in a spheroid to protect himself and several allies. All shields have a range limit of 8 feet, but offer protection from just about anything that can be thrown at them, be they physical, energetic, or spiritual in nature.

Force fields have offensive uses as well. By projecting Cel Energy into his claws, or around an entire gauntlet or boot, Arc can greatly enhance the power of his hand-to-hand combat skills. Enough to cut through solid steel or shatter large boulders, if necessary.

-= Armor Abilities =-

~ Durable & Lightweight: Even without the added benefit of force fields, Arc's armor is incredibly strong. It can resist ordinary melee weapons, small arms fire, and shrapnel explosions. It can endure crushing pressures, withstand most chemical attacks, and survive extreme changes in temperature. It even comes with its own climate control system, to protect its owner from harsh environments. Despite all this, it is surprisingly lightweight, and flexible enough to give Arc full range of motion. Though it may look like ordinary (albeit very fancy) armor on the outside, it is actually a very high-tech device, designed and constructed with space-age materials. That's not to say it's indestructible, even ordinary attacks can cause damage with repeated hits. It is, however, an incredibly tough shell to crack.

~ Built-in Computer System: Arc's technology is so complex that much of it is managed with a highly advanced computer system. The core of this system is embedded within the body armor, though its components are networked through all of the dragon's equipment. It is compact, well protected, and capable of processing incredible amounts of data. However, it is also just a tool and not a sentient form of A.I.

The computer's primary task is to coordinate the production and operation of Arc's nanobots (described below). While much of this work is done independently, the computer also follows Arc's commands. These can be sent mentally, vocally, or via a small keypad located along the top of his left gauntlet. Like most computers, this one can store vast amounts of information, and the gauntlet is Arc's primary means of accessing it. Besides the keypad, it also contains a small viewscreen, an omni-compatible port for interfacing with other computers, and a tiny holo-projector for showing visual data to others. When not in use, these components are folded beneath the gauntlet's armor plating to protect them from damage. Every part of Arc's technology is keyed to his DNA, and cannot be used by someone else unless he commands it to.

~ Molecular Bonding: The soles on Arc's boots, and the fingers and palms of his gauntlets, are specially treaded to give him a strong, comfortable grip. In fact, if desired they can actually bond with surfaces at the molecular level. This ability allows him to hold objects without dropping them, or travel across solid, low-friction surfaces (like ice) without slipping. Arc can also scale walls and ceilings simply by attaching himself to them and climbing. While this technique is made possible with nanotechnology, his nanobots (described below) don't play a role. These abilities are generally turned off until they're actually needed.

-= Nanobot Abilities =-

Many of Arc's abilities come as a result of his nanotechnology. Though a constant and often key component of Arc's adventures, I mention them last only because they are so deeply interconnected with the previous sections. The interior of Arc's armor is like a miniature factory, producing billions of nanobots which travel in and around the dragon's body. These 'bots are fueled with Cel Energy and are controlled by remote via the main computer core (see relevant sections above). The nanobots are spherical, omni-directional probes equipped to perform a variety of tasks both inside and outside of Arc's body. They are, however, much too small to be seen or felt without special abilities or equipment (though their effects may be detected, depending on what they're tryng to do.) When operating close to Arc, the Cel Stones give them a constant supply of power. When operating at distances greater than arm's length, they carry a limited fuel supply and will 'die' within 3-4 days without a recharge.

Their abilities include (though may not necessarily be limited too):

~ Body Repair & Maintenance: Arc's nanobots are never idle. In normal situations they patrol his body and make certain it stays healthy. Bacteria and viruses are destroyed, muscle tissue is maintained, and arteries are kept plaque free. Even dirt and dead scales are removed, keeping the dragon clean even when he's been on the road for months. In emergency situations, the process is accelerated, and priorities are made. If shot or stabbed, the nanobots will stop the bleeding and repair vital organs in seconds. If poisoned, the toxins will be quickly neutralized. Even severed limbs can be reattached scar-free if done so swiftly.

The nanobots have some creative uses in this area as well. They can separate the oxygen from molecules of water and carry them directly to the lungs, allowing Arc to hold his breath underwater for indefinite periods. He can even feign death simply by stopping his heart and letting the nanobots to take over. In the absence of oxygen and nutrients, Cel Energy can be used to keep Arc's cells alive.

~ Armor Repair & Maintenance: Just as the nanobots maintain Arc's body, so too do they maintain his equipment. Advanced as they are, even the dragon's armor and weapons can become damaged in the course of a fight. The nanobots work to prevent that by quickly repairing chips, fractures, dents, etc. Thus, even after the fiercest battles Arc's sword always stays razor sharp, and his armor, well polished.

~ Healing & Repair of Others: Anything the nanobots can do for Arc can be done for others as well. If Arc is within arm's length of another person, he can transfer some of his nanobots over to perform the same kinds of quick healing/repair functions that he uses on himself. Even when a creature's physiology is completely unknown, the 'bots are remarkably adaptive. Upon entering a foreign body, they can quickly ascertain how it's structured, how it's being harmed, and how to fix it. The catch is that the denizens of the Dream are highly diverse, and the nanobots' effectiveness at healing can vary widely from avatar to avatar. Under normal circumstances, Arc will always ask permission before sending his 'bots into another person. But he won't hesitate to act on his own in an emergency.

~ Internal Assault: While Arc's nanobots are fully capable of providing medical assistance, they are just as capable of destroying someone's body from the inside out. A very subtle weapon for besting someone with supposedly impenetrable defenses.

~ Tagging: 'Tagging' is a far less violent technique that involves placing nanobots within a person for the purpose of tracking them later. Even over great distances, Arc can keep tabs on where his nanobots are via wireless communication. While the most obvious use would be to track suspicious characters, Arc can also use it to locate separated friends, track inanimate objects as they are carried from place to place, and even mark his path like a trail of bread crumbs.

~ Private Communication: While Arc is not telepathic, he can use his nanobots to create a sort of faux telepathy. By placing them in the speech centers of both his own brain and that of another, Arc can set up a wireless communications link between them. This technique can be used on multiple people simultaneously, all of whom could talk to one another just by thinking what they want to say. All transmissions are silent and heavily encrypted, so only those who carry the nanobots can hear what's being said. This technique does not allow Arc to read minds. Only consciously and voluntarily sent information can be understood by any party.
Weaknesses:
~ Cold Temperatures / Ice Attacks: Arc is warm-blooded, but as a consequence of his fire breathing ability, his body temperature is noticeably higher than that of most other species. His skin isn't harmful to the touch, but doing so might make you wonder if he was running a fever. To reduce the risk of overheating, evolution has designed Arc's body like a giant radiator. Any excess heat he produces is quickly removed and absorbed by the atmosphere, primarily through blood vessels in the wings. This process is so efficient, in fact, that Arc could raise the temperature of a small room by one or two degrees simply by sitting in it for a short time.

While this trait grants Arc increased resilience to warm temperatures and flame attacks, it also makes him vulnerable to cold temperatures and ice attacks. In those cases, his body works too well, and doesn't retain the heat it needs to resist the effects of hypothermia or frostbite. This is exactly the opposite of a furred creature, who's coat is great for staying comfortable in the cold, but more of a liability in warmer weather.

Arc's body armor and nanobots provide a good deal of protection from the cold, but even they have their limits.

~ Soft Scales: Unlike dragons of legend, Arc's scales are not at all armor-like. Rather, they are soft and smooth to the touch, almost like snakeskin. They offer little protection from sharp, pointy things.

~ Alcohol: He can drink it, thanks to the security provided by his nanobots. However, he greatly prefers not to. Alcohol and firey breath typically don't go well together.

~ Nyu's Cooking: During a visit to Nyu's coffeeshop, Arc discovered that catnip, a primary ingredient in the Neko girl's cooking, has a peculiar effect on him. Left unchecked, it acts as a stimulant and has mild hallucinogenic properties, impairing both his judgment and reaction times. The reasons why aren't entirely clear, but the effects are only temporary and leave no long-term ills. They're also entirely optional, as Arc's nanobots could easily neutralize the toxins if he wanted them to. He rarely wants them to. >_>

~ Beautiful women who show interest in him: While Arc may at times seem rude, unsociable, and even brutal (the latter reserved for opponents in battle), beneath that hardened, sarcastic exterior is a soft, emotional center. He's reluctant to seek out personal relationships, but highly receptive to exploring those that happen to come his way. Individuals patient enough to drag him out of his shell will find a very shy, but hopelessly romantic partner inside (emphasis on "hopeless"). It doesn't take much. Simply calling him cute is generally all it takes to turn this "savage" beast into a nervous puddle of emotional goo (it's pathetic, really. :P ). As you might expect, this state greatly affects his judgment, and restricts his capacity for rational thought. It also elicits a number of physical changes that I won't go into. >_>

Of course, this is a conditional weakness. A) It only applies to attractive women (sorry, fellas.) B) Said women must demonstrate that they're interested (normal, everyday interaction has no effect.) and C) That interest has to be genuine (If Arc so much as suspects that he's being used, it's all over.)

~ His PG: Arc is a strong, intelligent, insightful, charming, and witty character. Unfortunately, he got stuck with me as his PG. If Arc says or does something that is inconsistent with this profile or of whatever RP he's in at the time (or if it's just really stupid), it may very well be that his PG is the one to blame. If that happens, please be understanding and don't take it out on him in an IC fashion. An avatar is only as good as the person behind the keyboard. -_-
History & Ambition:
Arc's personal history is closely related to the history of his race, and the tragic events that have befallen them. Nearly a generation ago, Arc's people were a highly advanced civilization with an unparalleled level of technology. They lived in harmony with nature, and were just as advanced culturally as they were scientifically. But over time that technology became a source of envy among the less advanced races of their world. Those races looked greedily at the dragons' utopia, seeing their scientific knowledge as the key to their own advancement. They approached the dragons on many occasions, hoping to convince them to share their wisdom willingly. But they were turned down each time, on the grounds that sharing technology with people unable to use it responsibly would only lead to disaster. The dragons did this to protect the other races from themselves, but their stance was interpreted as selfish arrogance and only lead to deeper resentment and distrust of the dragons in general.

Finally, under the misguided fear that the dragons were planning to attack and enslave them, the lesser races joined forces and assaulted the draconian nation. They made up for their primitive technology by weilding magic, and attacking in far greater numbers. Many people on both sides died during the conflict, but the dragons were eventually driven from their homeland into the surrounding territories. Though they took as much of their technology and collected wisdom as they could, most of the rest had been destroyed during the war. The remainder was left to the other races to scavenge and, predictably, fight amongst themselves over.

Arc was born shortly after all of this took place, and grew up in a society that was a mere shadow of its former glory. With his people scattered and living a largely nomadic lifestyle, Arc's destiny soon became clear. Upon reaching adulthood he, along with several other members of his race, departed in different directions on a quest to find a new, secure homeland for their people. Five years later, during one of his many adventures, Arc stumbled into the Napping Cat's Dream at the conclusion of a major battle. Could this mysterious new land be the place he's been searching for? If so, he must find a way back home and lead the rest of his people to their new, permanent homeland.
Personality:
For the most part Arc is friendly, and will use his strength only to assist and never to oppress. But due to his race's violent past he is also highly suspicious and has difficulty trusting others. He doesn't hold all people responsible for the decline of his race, and fully realizes that most of them are just as friendly as he. But he also won't risk getting too close to anyone for fear of being betrayed. He doesn't mind traveling with others, but rarely stays with anyone for very long. When he does, he keeps his guard up, even though he may talk and interact perfectly normal. Arc is a very private individual, reluctant to share information about himself for fear that it might be used against him later. While at times he can be very emotional, he is also very logical. He avoids drawing attention to himself as much as he can. To that end, he avoids getting into unnecessary conflicts and will generally walk away from fights that don't concern him. But if sufficiently motivated, or backed into a corner, he becomes a fierce warrior.
