Name: Marrise Alkali

Age: 14

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Homeworld: Llysanyin- Specifically, in the country of Cassori near the coastal city of Casna. (see end of profile for more info)

Height: 4'8"

Weight: 98 lbs

Build: Short and lean. Most of that 98 lbs is muscle, though it is covered in a thin layer of fat- so she isn't exactly "toned". At first glance she looks like a little 12 year old child, much to her annoyance. She's a little monkey when it comes to climbing trees, getting into small places, and mostly worming her way into and out of situations she really should be in.

Skin Color: Alabaster. Seriously, this chick is so pale she could be mistaken for an albino, with a slight rosy overcast to her skin.

Eye Color: A deep blue-gray, like the color of the sky right before a storm comes rolling in

Hair Color/Style: Her natural hair color is white. However, the first few locks of her hair near her face (your bangs, if you let them grow out) are a vivid purple, due to the dye she experimented with against her mother's wishes. Her hair goes down to her mid-back, and is quite straight until it reaches her shoulders. From her shoulders down, her hair is extremely wavy/curly.

Birthmark: She was born with a small wine-red birthmark in the center of her forehead in the shape of a spiraling sun. The skin is actually slightly bumpy, as if her skin was boiling in that shape and then suddenly froze mid-boil. It is small, a little less than an inch in diameter, but it stands on on her very pale skin.

Occupation: Merchant's daughter, mischief maker, impertinent child (at least, according to her mother), and little scrapper (according to her brothers, with whom she fights with regularly in a boot-to-the-head fashion)

Affiliations: She has two older brothers, one older sister, one younger brother and three younger sisters. Plus her mother, father, and paternal grandmother who lives with them. There are several other family affiliations- such as different craftsmen, buyers, captains of the ships they rent, etc. when it comes to running a business and being in a merchant family, but none are overly close to her personally. Oh, and plants. She's affiliated with lots and lots of different green things from all over. Her prized possession (and best friend) is a miniature tree (bonsai, specifically a Red Japanese Maple in the "Twin Trunk" style) she tends to in a flat ceramic bowl that she calls "Grandfather". He's just as loving and attentive as her own flesh-and-blood grandfather, and he was the only plant she took with her to the Academy.

Clothing: Despite being a total tomboy at times, she LOVES frilly clothing. Floofy dresses, embroidery, ribbons and lace; the girlier the better. If she knows she's going to get dirty, she'll make sure to dress down in a long tunic with breeches, but they still have a bit of that girlie-flare.

Accessories: Because she hates being stared at and being called a "demon-child" due to her birthmark, she tends to wear hats, scarves, bandanas, circlets, diadems, or anything else to hide the mark.
She also has a frilly fabric umbrella with a sunflower pattern that she keeps with here wherever she goes. Her mother insisted that if she was going to be a heathen child roaming about outside, she should at least protect her skin from blemishes. She keeps it with her because she files down the tip to a point every night, and who would expect an umbrella to be a weapon?

Abilities/Skills & Power Level:
Here I'm breaking this up into three parts: "Abilities" being things she can do okay or well, but isn't particularly trained or skilled in, "Skills" as in things she does extremely well, and "Power Level" being where she is at the moment concerning her magical abilities

Abilities: She has several abilities, most of them being ones she wouldn't own up to (mostly her mother's lessons in being a proper lady and future wife like cooking, cleaning, proper ways to great nobles/royalty, how to be a good hostess, etc).
But there a several she learned from her brothers that her mother wishes she hadn't- such as how to roll, tumble, take a hit, give out punches/kicks, and other basics of down-and-dirty street fighting. And running. Lots of running and knowing when to stop fighting and bolt to live another day to cause more trouble. She picked up a lot of her troublemaking skills from her brothers, and from her own need to rebel against her mother.
She also has learned the basics of haggling, sweet-talking, find the best prices, and other such things a Merchant's daughter needs to help run the business.

Skills: (Or also known as Tendencies! :D )
--Gardening/Plants in General. No one knows why, but the plants she tends to grow faster, greener, better, produce more blossoms/fruit/veggies, and live longer. She even has better luck with cross-breeding and developing new breeds of plants than most of the Queen's gardeners. She has a general affinity for nature (such as she's pretty good with animals, picking out the not flawed gems and semi-precious stones, knowing where to get water, not getting lost in the woods, knowing when storms might crop up, etc.) but the bulk of it lies with the green things. Most of this does not disturbs her parents- what they find disturbing is the fact that she talks to plants as if they were sentient. And labels them as "friends". Aaaawkwaaard.
--Swimming. My GOD can the child swim. She was a natural from the start, and loves being in or near the water. Most folk attribute it to living near the coast, but even for a coastal dweller she's better than normal; like a little fish.
--Climbing. The child knows how to monkey her way up a tree, let me tell you! She can climb, squirm, and wiggle her way in and out of spaces normal people wouldn't even think of. Part of it is her size, and the other is just her dexterity and ability to scale anything with an excuse for hand-holds and foot-holds. Before she knew how to fight better with her brothers, she would climb as high as possible into the trees surrounding her home and stay there until they got bored and went away.
--Clothing. The is one trait her mother adores. From the get-go she loved pretty clothes, and with her mother's and grandmother's help she learned how to sew, spin, dye, making lace, design patterns, embroider, mend, beading, etc. from a young age. If it has to do with making, fixing, or sprucing up clothes, she learned it and practiced until her fingers bled. By now she's a whiz, and could possibly get a job as a dressmaker's apprentice- if she wanted to. Clothing is fun and all, but her passion lies in the soil. Besides, it pisses her mother off. To her father's dismay, she also tried to learn how to get the materials herself, right down to sheering the sheep and combing the cotton. (She tried to learn about tanning leather, but didn't have the stomach for it- she prefers her cows alive. Since they she has stayed to more "earthy" materials than animal hide.)

Power Level:
The thing with Marrise is that she really has no idea that she has magical abilities. She has heard stories about her female ancestors on her mother's side, and how they had magical abilities- but the gift had diminished over time and since her mother was born without it, she figured she had been to. It doesn't help that those with magical abilities in her world usually manifest them early and in flashy ways- like making objects fly around the room. So what else is she supposed to think? She attributes her knack with plants and other things of the natural world to just be that- a knack she happens to be good at. Like her father has a knack for sweet talking, and her mother has a knack with making friends with those higher up in the food chain.
Because of this, she has no training whatsoever beyond what she already does or what her friends the plants have helped her to do. She has a lot of potential waiting to be revealed, if only she had a teacher...

[edit] Marrise has been at the Academy for almost a month now, and has been furiously studying during and after class. She is gaining a better knowledge and grasp of her magical abilities each day, and strives to push her limits. She has learned while her magic is rooted in the earth, she can also control the wind and the waves- amongst other things. Her teacher believes that she will have power over the entire spectrum of nature eventually, but so far she has only successfully controlled the earth and the air (on purpose). But being the stubborn little gixie she is, it is more than likely that she will succeed at anything she puts her mind to from sheer stubbornness.

[edit 2] Despite being told that in order to keep a firm grip and to control the elements, nature and Her creatures, Marrise seems to be doing fine with the opposite method. She has found that by asking (not commanding) and befriending the winds like she would her plants, she gains their trust and loyalty. Slowly, it is occurring to her that she had already made these bonds and used her magic without realizing it in her past, and the only difference from then and now is that she has to consciously produce the results she seeks (as opposed to throwing a tantrum and unwittingly agitating the weather to cause a storm). She is learning quickly, but hasn't realized it quite yet because it's almost second-nature to the young girl. But any adult with the right eyes can see that she uses her magic like someone would their hands or fingers; easily, naturally, and without thinking.
For a girl who only learned she had magic a month ago, she's doing amazingly well and growing into her power at an alarming rate. Then again, The Academy picks their students for a reason...

[edit 3] As we can see, Marrise still lacks the finesse and finite control of someone with proper training. But she also does not have their inhibitions. There are no road blocks in her mind from learning how things are "properly done", so she does not refute an idea just because normal mages would say "isn't possible". If she can wrap her head around it, she'll try it. And if it works, great! If it doesn't, another lesson learned. It's the flexibility of her imagination, mind, and magic that makes her effective. Even if she isn't exactly "subtle".

I guess you could call her a savant. The magic is so much a part of her and comes so naturally, she doesn't think- she just acts. Marrise doesn't realize that she shouldn't be advancing this quickly or doing these new things so easily (read as- with so little actual training). It's nothing special to her, it just is.

Quirks: She's a vegetarian. Despite her family being affluent enough to have meat, she refuses to eat anything that came from a dead animal. This exasperates her parents, and they demand to know how she can eat plants when she calls them her "friends". She just replies that she "asks them for permission first", and that "plants are smarter than most people I know, and know that their lot in life is to give sustenance and life to other beings".

Weaknesses:
-She's small and tough, but not necessarily very strong. She can hold her own in a fight and make you hurt, but that doesn't mean she can lift 250 lbs.
-Marrise has a talent for saying exactly what is on her mind, without a care in the world for how anyone might interpret or see what comes out of her mouth. This gets her into a lot of trouble, and especially exasperates her mother. Little girls are supposed to be demure. She's a loud-mouthed and sometimes-snarky chatterbox. One thing is for certain- she says what she means and she means what she says. So if she thinks that dress makes you look fat, she'll come right out and say it!
-Curiosity. That's how she gets into the most trouble, is just her curious nature. It's a good thing she isn't a cat!

Description of Personality: Marrise is very forward. She tells you what she thinks and why without thinking of the consequences. And sometimes she can get a little snarky or sarcastic, especially when it comes to talking to her mother. Or bullies. Or people who just annoy her. "Chatterbox" is also a good word to describe her, as she tends to go on and on past the point when she should have stopped.
She does have the tendency to be a little hyper, and quite curious- which lands her in hot water from time to time. For the most part, she's a sweet and caring girl and likes to make friends. This was hard in her homeworld, since most girls weren't interested in rolling around in the mud and saw her as a freak. However, she is happiest in a meadow by a running stream or the coast, laid out on the grass, talking to the wildflowers and listening to the birds sing.

Former Life: In a world where a select few hold magical power (both the black and the white), the people are divide into classes based on wealth and social standing, a royal family rules the throne and weredragons are the highest power, little Marrise Alkali was born.

At first, her parents had hoped that she too was a weredragon (where a dragon's soul binds itself to a child before birth) because of the birthmark on her forehead. But to their dismay, they were told that a weredragon's mark is seldomly ever that obvious, and that there has been no predicted births of weredragons for the next few decades. They still hoped she would grow into a beautiful and graceful child, only to have their hopes smashed to bits.

With several older brothers and one younger, she was constantly in and out of trouble, getting dirty, and getting into fights. This sort of behavior would have been accepted and normal for a growing boy, but not for a young lady! At a young age she was at-odds with her mother on what she liked to do and wanted to do, versus her mother's idea on those matters. Her father was mostly aloof or away, dealing, trading, or tending the business. Slowly she felt more and more unwanted, as her mother started to devote more of her time with her other normal daughters and less time with Marrise. With the exception of scolding, badgering, pestering her and forcing unwanted lessons of course. She was trying to push Marrise into a mold that she just didn't fit. So the more her mother pushed, the more she pushed back.

She found solace in talking with the plants, helping them grow, and making friends with them. It was hard at first, since most plants have such shorter life spans (imagine mourning for dozens of lost friends every fall as they slowly die), but she grew to love the trees and they loved her, and it was rare when one of their number died. Her father was given it as a bonus in a trade agreement, and gave it to his daughter as a gift. She has several plants decorating her side of the room she shares with her 4 sisters, and each is near and dear to her heart.

Marrise had resigned herself to being forced to attend Cotillon and be entered into some arranged marriage, when a stranger paid her family a visit one sunny day, and told her about The Academy...

***Some Random facts on her homeworld of Llysanyin***
-A good way to describe Llysanyin is a medieval fantasy world of kings and queens, witches and wizards, evil sorcerers and good healers, dragons and other magical beasts, bards and adventurers, captains and pirates, merchants and caravans, etc. It's a patriarchal society, and while some women have power (A queen ruled after her husband's death, a woman captain of a merchant ship, women business owners, the rare female knight etc.) and are accepted, that is the exception and not the norm.
-While her homeworld acknowledges the existence of other worlds, they have a "don't bother us and we won't bother you" policy. Once in a decade or so, someone will visit their homeworld from another. These occurrences are usually dealt with the upmost delicacy. If the stranger does not agree to wear their clothing, and abide by their rules and customs, they are asked to leave. If they insist on not leaving either, the council of the Great Dragons- the Seathe, intervene. Most times people either leave peacefully, or get eaten- it's that simple.
-Depending on what country you visit in Llysanyin, the citizens' knowledge of other worlds/universes/galaxies varies. The Yerrin believe them to be a myth told to children to scare them. However, in Casna (the capitol city of Cassori) it is taught that while they are out there, it is best to pretend they don't exist or let them contaminate their culture (a little like how we teach our kids about sex and drugs- "They are bad for you, you won't like it, just ignore it" :p ). The Academy is known to several of the merchants, nobles, and the ruling family of Cassori. It is rare that anyone from Llysanyin are chosen by the Academy, but it does happen. Any boy or girl that graduates from The Academy and returns, they are almost guaranteed instant fame, connections, and possibilities. So while Marrise's parents would prefer one of their sons to be chosen, at least it would make their little insane wild-child more eligible for arranged marriages (not to mention her dowry- woo!).
-People who visit with other worlds/universes/galaxies are treated the same as outsiders; obey the rules or get out. So sometimes, if you know where to look, there is more information to be found from what people have smuggled in. But they make sure to keep the lid tight on it, unless they want to meet face-to-face with one of the DragonLords (the weredragons) or a member of the Seathe.
-The line of power goes as follows: The Seathe, The DragonLords, then the ruling families and so on. The Seathe and the DragonLords so not meddle in the affairs of the ruling families unless their is unrest, or if they are asked to mediate on a matter. They respect the ruling families and their laws to an extent, but in reality no one tells a dragon or a weredragon what to do. They are not just above the law, they ARE the law.
-Weredragons or people who were bonded with a dragon soul before birth. They usually have some sort of mark, though very rarely is is obvious. The mark could be something as simple as a plain birthmark, short or extremely tall in stature, or even deformities such as born with one leg or being albino. They usually do not know they carry a dragon soul until the soul awakens, which starts between the adolescent years and on into adulthood. Sometimes, during the awakening process, the human host believes themselves to be going insane- and in the process are killed or kill themselves. The Seathe always predicts the number of weredragons born each decade, which are few or even sometimes none. This is why there are so few weredragons.

--End Profile for "The Academy"--

***EDITED 4-07-04***
-New images in the picture gallery!

Age: Too old for you to understand

Gender: Female

Species/Race: Alkalian Unisus ~ A unique cross between Unicorn and Pegasus

Height: A little over 4 feet in anthro form ~ 14.4 hands ((1 hand = 5 inches)) in quad form ~ height varies for any other form

Weight: About 124lbs in anthro ~ 1,184lbs in quad ~ weight varies in any other form

Build: Very small and petite; almost childlike. Very lithe and flexible, like a gymnist in anthro form ~ Moves like lightning - almost supernatural in her natural form as a quad

Fur Color(s): Marrise is a very colorful creature, no doubt. Her hair is straight and silky, reaching just a little past her shoulders. The top of her head to her ears is a bright red, then it fades into a pale yellow. The pale yellow fades into a brilliant blue, and then into a very bright green (almost neon, but not quite). Last but not least, each hair ends in a purple streak.
Her bangs, however, are a different matter. Her bangs frame her face quite well, and always manages to never fall over her Mark, or her horn (depedning on which she has at the moment-For more details see Abilities) Her bangs are pure white, and tipped in the same purple as the rest of her hair.
The feathers (("feathers" is the equine tearm for long, silky hairs adourning the hooves of most Draf Horses)) on her hooves (and on her wrists in anthro form) are tipped in the same violet purple as her hair. Her body fur is a pure white, that seems to never stain.
Her tail tuft at the end of her lion-like tail is the same rainbow of colors as her hair.
Her triple set of wings is the same storm blue color as her eyes.
Her hooves and hoof-like "hands" are both soft golden in color.
Her horn is a spiral of gold intertwining with silver, and when she hides her horn, the Mark on her forhead resembles a silver sun with a golden creasent moon inscribed inside it.

((I know my character is very...garish and complex, so see my reference pics at the end of her profile for a better example! ))

Eye Color(s): A Pupiless storm blue

Clothing: ((In Anthro Form)) She wears a very loose and free flowing garmet that looks like it was spun from pure siler. Hanging loose and bunched up around her neck, the mid-thigh length dress like garmet flows like water and moves with her - the sleeves at a medium width and loose; only elbow length. ((Wears nothing in Quad form of course - clothing varies for other forms))

Occupation / Class: Marrise is a free spirit, and goes and does what she pleases. If she has an occupation, it would be that of a Prankster

Affiliations (family, friends, organizations): She is affiliated with none except of her own kind and the others living on the world of Alkali.

Accessories (weapons, jewelry, tools, magic items, vehicles, etc.): Nothing at the moment

Pets: None

Abilities/Skills & Power Level:
-Marrise is more powerful than she looks. She also is more powerful than she knows. Basically, it runs along the lines of "If she can think it, it can most likely happen" No, she can't make planets or totally destroy worlds and the like, but you get the overall idea. She mainly uses her abilites to play pranks or to have fun, and only pulls out the big guns when she's mad, or in trouble.
-The Alkalian Unisus' have a sort of "defense mechanism". When young, their species are very childlike and reckless. They may seem carefree when participating in a war, but they look at it like a child looks at playing cops and robbers- it's just a game. That is, until they get hurt or are in series danger. This is when the nature "override" comes into effect. They'll stop, almost as if someone pulled a "plug". A second later, they'll start to move again, but they do not act like themselves. If anyone tries to look into their eyes, they will see no soul there; just emptiness. This little defense instinct lasts until the Unisus is out of harm's way. Afterwards, he or she will not remember what happened while the defense instict was controlling their actions. This little instinct lasts until they mature, and only the Droranus can make it disappear before then.
-The main ability she uses all the time and openly is her ability to change shape. Her natural shape - the one she was born in - is a Quadraped. However, she has the inate ability to change shape. There are hinges to this: her eyes will always be storm blue in any form (and pupiless), she will always have the Mark on her forehead, and she cannot straight out copy something.
Her two most used forms are her natural Quad form and Anthro.

Special Effects (if any): See above and below.
Also, she can hide her horn. A foot long horn not only gets in the way as an Anthro, but scares people at times. So she can estend it as far as she wants, and she can hide it. When she hides her horn, all that is left is her Mark where the base of the horn should be. It looks like a silver sun with a golden creasent moon inscribed in it.
When she performs any magic as an Anthro, her hands are encircled by sphere of shifting lights, resembling the Northern Lights. In her Quad form, just a point of the same spheric light appears at the tip of her horn, or sometimes her whole horn will glow.
Her wings, like her horn, are also retractable and exspandable. However, they can get no smaller but the width of her back.

Miscellaneous:
~Her pupiless eyes are uneffected my light. In the day, she can see perfectly. In the night, she can also see perfectly. Sudden changes in light and intense brightness do not effect her what so ever.
~She does not have red blood. Her blood is rather mother of pearl-like, and it contains pure life energy. Consuming this blood gives a warm, tingling feeling. A little restores your energy, and alot can add years to your life. Legend says that consuming all of a Alkalian Unisus' blood makes one immortal.
~She seems to change mood at whim. She has no real set mood or 'personality' perse, and looking into her mind will give any telepath a headache.

Description of Personality: Marrise is very fun loving and carefree, along with naive boardering on clueless. She's very kind and trusting, and is also very silly and gullible, and tends to act in a reckless manner. She seems to be as helpless and innocent as new fallen snow, but anger her and you shall see how "helpless" she is. At least, that is how she is most of the time.
Marrise seems to switch moods as easily as a snap of the fingers. When she is in her Quad form, she is more often than not a bit more together and serene, with an air of wisdom about her. She can also display these qualities in her Anthro form. How she acts and her mood almost depends wholly on the situation, the turn of the moon, and how she's feeling.

Brief History: Marrise is from the world called Alkali, where most of the mythical creatures have retreated to as they have either been driven from their worlds by hunters or when people stopped beliving in them. Marrise herself is a special breed of Unisus, which has become the native animal dirived from the beasts and land residing there. Keeping the balance, another creature, the Droranus, was created as well. The Droranus is the Unisus' natural predator. No one is sure how they came about otherwise. They just appeared one day, and have been roaming that world, and others, since. IT is said that the Great Mother of Alkali created those two races to help keep the balance of Order.
Marrise herself is an only "child", ((Even thought she doesn't see herself as a child )) who has been going from place to place errantly for quite a few centuries. Her kind are practically ageless and nearly immortal - they will live forever if not threatened by beings, disease, or otherwise. They do, however, tend to dissapear and never be seen again on occasion. No one knows what happens to these Alkalian Unisus...

A brief and character revealing answer to the question, "What is your ambition?": "Ambition? Isn't that a funny word! I just want to go out and have some fun, even though some people don't like my brand of "fun" *whickers*"

~*Diagram of Marrise*~
I know she's very complex, so here is my attempt to make it a bit easier for people to understand. I'll start off with a decription of her in Quad and Anthro form, then post various Character Sheet pictures for an aide. I hope this will help!

Marrise's basic body structure as a Quad is as follows:
As far as horses go, she resembles an Arabian ((The Photo Gallery on that website is VERY good)) Her head is very small and her nose dished, and her proportions seems light and delicate as if made for running. Her ears, however, are slightly longer and wider at the base than a normal horse's. She has, of course, her spiralling gold and silver horn in the middle of her forhead. Her mane is the same color pattern as her hair ((See "Fur Colors")) Instead of a regular tail, she has a lion-like one that's almost long enough to touch the ground. At the tip of that tail, is a fur tuft similar to what a lion would have. It's coloring is the same as the Mane. The triple set of wings are joined just below her withers (horse term for "shoulders") and are fully workable. Her hooves seem a bit out of proportion to her body, seemingly ment for a Draft horse.
Marrise's basic body structure as an Anthro is as follows:
As I said in Build, she is very childlike and delicate as bodies go. She is on the short side when it comes to height, but it doesn't seem to bother her. Her ears are the same as they are in her Quad form, along with her tail. Her wings take up the most of her middle back, as the first pair sets right between her shoulder blades. Her "hands" are quite odd. They consist of two "fingers" and one "thumb" The fingers are a bit triangular and wide, to make up for there being so few of them. Also, her "hands" seem to just be ackward hooves. Her hands feel like hooves, and are just as hard. They also have a small, white triangle in the center of her palms. These act as the frog of the horse hoof - very sensative, and her weak point. Her legs ARE NOT digigrade. They are seemingly striaght like any human. However, her knees are double jointed in the sense that they are more flexible than they should be; making them a bit wide. Her hooves still seem a bit big for her body.

Pictures for Reference are as follows:

This is an image I made to show her shifting- changing shape. I like how it came out. She's very wild and colorful and BRIGHT. I think this depics that well.

Beautiful exerp from the picture above. I love how the wing came out (one of three pair) and how her hair came out. She's bored, she she's shifting for some hair to become snakes. XD

In this pic I FINALLY got the shape of her head right.. Very equine. I love how this turned out, hair and all.
